I don't see how using a plugin that shows you your party's TP hinders others' gaming experience, but I suppose that GMs must see through it all.
Whoever is in charge of making these stupid laws in FFXI really is an ass. =/
Its actually an easy choice to make for SE. It is very easy to simply say all 2rd party software is banned. There is no question then about what is legit and what isn't. EA/Origin took a different route back in the day with UO, and instituted a system by which you could write 3rd party software and get it "approved" for use. While SE could do this, it takes additional man power, essentially a second dev team to pour through all the code of submitted programs, and of course monitoring those programs to ensure they aren't things like the Flee cheat, or the change job cheat. Even then, entirely benign software that included "dangerous code" like windower would typically be denied.

Given all the hassle... why not just put a blanket "No" on 3rd party... after all... its not fair to the PS2/XB360 users...

well i decided not to use it i guess not worth the risk. I only want to be able to communicate with my japanese friends since most of them dont understand romanji and it sucks for my japanese friends that do, have to translate romanji into standard japanese.

I say it's worth it and you definitely should give it a try.
you can set windower to display the game fullscreen just like normal, and delete all other plugins except IME.

Especially if you play a lot during asian time, being able to type japanese will save you a lot of hassle.

take me for example, I did most of my AF with japanese, I am in japanese HNM and dynamis LS, I party 90% of the time with japanese.
This is not possible at all without IME plug in.

well, not to make it sounds even worse, but if I am a PT leader and I /tell to a japanese in romanji, 8 out of 10 they will reply with {english} {no thanks}.
Gotta be lucky to find the odd 2/10 who don't mind english PT.

          Yeah, same.
I've seen Japanese doing shouts for party members or missions, and when I'd reply with the auto-translater, they'd ask if I could speak Japanese. If I said 'no', they'd decline letting me into the party. When I replied back with IME on (in Japanese), however, they'd let me right in. It's extremely helpful.

Same here, and ironicly, if I would reply with "I can't read Japanese" I would usually still get the party, despite only being able to say a couple things.

Re: Typing Japanese on English Client?

Here's a question... when I use the FFXI IME input tool.... if there is spaces in the japanese, how do I get those spaces, without it changing the japanese character?
Because with IME, the spacebar changes the symbol right... so... should I like, not put spaces, is that still correct japanese?... or switch to english.. space... then abck and keep typing?

Re: Typing Japanese on English Client?

Japanese doesn't use spaces bewteen words, but if you wanted to put them in, you only have to press enter to finalize the text, and then press space.

They dont use spaces?.. ok excellent. and thank you about the enter thing

                    Double Post Edited:
here's a question... using FFXI IME, is there any way to use the auto translation function with it?... like if I wanted to say "Party wo sagashite imasu, (|Samurai|)"... (Im looking for a party, then have Samurai in auto translate?...)

Re: Typing Japanese on English Client?

with IME, you have to know there's 2 states of typing.
while you are still typing you will see that letters are green.
those are active. you can press space to change them to other forms (kanji/kantakana/etc)
And when you press enter, you finalize them. They change to white and cannot be changed anymore.

Now the translator will work with only the green words. And not only the last few characters line english, but the entire thing that are green.

                      So if you want
                      x xxxxxxxxxx {samurai}
you have to make sure xxxxxxxxxx are finalized into white and only sam are green before you press tab.
this is actually convenient. Because you can insert tab translator into the middle of the line too. like
                      xxxxxxx y xxxxxx
once everything else are white, you can go to y and type in Sam[tab] and everything else will still be there.

I don't understand, what kind of pull down? Are you using the IME plugin for windower, or a old stand alone tool that you type it out side the game?

No you can't use tab translator with that application.
Go to azaril windower's site, in their forum, Plugin Release forum you'll find IME 0.3
It enables japanese input inside FFXI itself. You can type straight into the game without having to switch to anything.
It is for azaril windower if you're already using it.
