I remember doing the yen symbol... -w-; But as for actual typing in the kanji, mm... I'm not sure.

    Fishy

    There once was fish,

    Whom made a perfect dish

    To a giant fish.

    The giant fish was caught,

    By a Mithra which sought

    To fill her hunger.

    The Mithra was slayed,

By a monster whom would raid

    The land.

    What have we learned?

I know some japanese and im trying to improve. But I want to be able to type in Japanese at least Hiragana and Katakana. This way I can at least communicate with other japanese who are willing to put up with a Vietnamese-American whos trying to speak in japanese. LoL

I can type japanese in word, emails and any document programs. I got the windower and when i switch to Japanese the option for Hiragana input or any kind of japanese input it gone.

Think you have to use the IME tool.

No, even with the IME tool, you cannot type Japanese in the English FFXI client. If I recall correctly, Square Enix was planning on having some sort of functionality for that, but had to drop it because of copyright issues or something, regarding some sort of IME dictionary or whatever.

It's the reason many importers still play with the Japanese client sometimes.

Windower has a plugin that lets you use IME in English FFXI.

Windower + the IME plugin can do it. However, it should be noted this is the "Easiest" way to get caught using windower. That is, GM calls with the NA client are directed to NA GM's. While it is still debated whether or not GM's can look at chat logs (I happen to believe they can) they already know you are using an NA client, and JP text may be a little suspicious obviously.

Since the built in IME is disabled in the NA client, if some one were to complain about you using cheats, it would be imposible to deny using cheats. Use IME at your own risk, and don't give people a reason to complain.

Actually, the GM you call isn't determined by the Client you're using, but rather the regional registration code under which your account was made (I was told this by a GM). For all they know, you could be using a Japanese client.

if you shout in jeuno "IM USING WINDOWER TO TYPE THIS LETTER {japanese japanes japanses}" then yes you will get banned.

I've been playing english client using IME plug in ever since the plug in came out many months ago, no problem on my side.

also you will have to set your "default language for non-unicode program" to japanese.
this setting is in the control panel > regional and laguage.

And 'banned' is harsh. GMs don't instantly ban you for these sorts of things.
I've been using hacks on multiple accounts, and first offense is a 72hr suspension.
Afterwards, it's your ass on the line. =/

Honestly, the majority of people that use PC FFXI, use windower. There's even a Japanese windower. I've never personally met anyone who has been banned for using windower. But, don't use bots, or flee hacks...EVER. IMO, windower is a nice tool, and SE should actually invest some stock into it. There's a ton of innovative features to use with it. I've never met anyone who would snitch to a GM about using windower either. Most people like the fact that I can type in Japanese because it makes it easier to communicate. Even though I speak very little. I can get the message across. Also, the Japanese players tend to respect the fact that I'm trying to learn, and appreciate their language.

                          I stand corrected then.

I have seen a screenshot of someone banned for windower. They were jailed by GM and when asked "do you know why you're here" the reply was "Cause I'm using windower. I'm sorry, I'll take it off as soon as we're done." GM replied, "We will talk about windower in a moment. I brought you here because..."

Ultimately the GM had no idea the person was using windower, but the player opened thier mouth and got temp banned for it. *shrug*

there were cases where people mentioned they use windower in PT and other member called GM on them.
                            They got suspended :/
yea not an insta-ban, i overexagerated a bit.

                              Some people are so arrogant...
I haven't had it happen to me, but I've heard of it, too.
I don't see how using a plugin that shows you your party's TP hinders others' gaming experience, but I suppose that GMs must see through it all.
Whoever is in charge of making these stupid laws in FFXI really is an ass. =/
