Using a World Pass

I think i am all clear on how to use a World pass, but i think i did try and create a character (i did already a couple of characters) and it came to the screen and i couldn't input anything, anyone know why?
Also is there any chance that i could see a screenshot to make sure where i input the code?

On the last screen of creating a character, the screen where you enter in a name and server, enter in the name of the world your worldpass is for (spelling and capitalization matters). then you will be prompted to enter in your worldpass number.

would it matter i have have/had characters on a differnet server?

no, unless what you got was a gold worldpass.
