        Re: Help Please

Wow, you're cool, lol. ^-^ I have do have some questions:

        1. Where do you keep all your stuff? A bank? And is there a limit? Or is the amount of stuff you can have unlimited..which I really hope.

        2. What is a linkshell? lol...I know...Im a noob.

        3. Do you get to pick your world/server/or whatever you call it?

        4. What is a world passport, I think thats what they're called?

Hmm...that's all I can think of right now. But dont worry, I'll probably have more in a bit.

          Re: Help Please

I suggest to wait a bit with these questions untill you are actually playing.. For the worldpass, i dont know if you have any friends playing..? I guess not, since youre asking this here and not him/her

          1. You keep your stuff in a so called Mog House. This is an area all nations, and other various locations. On this place you have different things you can do. Mainly, for example, storing some items or equipment, changing your job etc..

          2. A linkshell is a sort of chatbox, which is only accessible by the "members of the linkshell", the poeple who have a so called "linkpearl", which you can equip to be able to connect to this chatbox. Linkshell chats will be displayed in normal chatscreen.

          3. No, you dont. Its called Worlds. But yes, it are servers.
          But..
          4. You are able to choose a specific world, if you have "World Pass". This is a code that can be bought by someone who is ingame cheap with gil. On the Character Creation menu, you enter this code and the character you are currently creating will be on this world. If you want a worldpass, just request one on one of these worlds. I can get you a worldpass to my world (Remora) if you want to. I dont know why you would. But we could befriend ill help you out with some things if you need.

Ill just add this, in case you dont know yet:
How to save? Just normally when you log off it will be saved. Just as simple as that

            Re: Help Please

So is there a limit to the amount of stuff you can store in your Mog House? I hope not...cuz Im one of those people who keep a lot of stuff and HAVE a lot of stuff, so I'll be disappointed if there is a limit.

And also...Im about to download Direct X...is it free?

Really, wow, i only payed $425 for my geforce 6800 ultra, but it was already 6 months old model at the time. If you are looking to get the most out of your money, go to a Bust Buy or a Circuit City and look for an AGP geforce 6600 or a 6200, they dont cost more than 150$ and it is a VERY worthwhie investment for a casual gamer, ( between low end cards and a high-end gaming gard like i have.) It might sounds expensive, but it will solve the problem of having to upgrade AGAIN when another game comes out that you might want to play.

                Re: Help Please

It is entirely free. If you have Windows XP, it might even be already installed.. Download DirectX9c or something, its kinda new and it works. If you have installed it, go to Start -> Run.. -> And enter "dxdiag". This will open a screen where you can test the functionability with a few clicks.

Ow and dont worry about the limits.. there are quests to expand both your Mog House and Inventory limits, NPC that can hold certain armor sets for you.. I dont think it will be a problem.

Ugh..after I have FFXI, the expansions, etc. into my computer I'm only going to have 500MHz left. Is that enough free space left for my computer to still run fast? Or do I need to get more...and if its possible to get more, how?

                  Somebody please reply.

Do you mean that you're afraid installing a program takes up MHz all the time? It only uses the processor if its running, so if its the only program you're running at the time then it won't be a problem. You'll always have 2.2GHz no matter what you install on your pc. I hope sweetkitty is right, and you meant to say MB instead of MHz.

Lol...yeah I REALLY messed that up...IGNORE that last comment. This is what I meant to say....currently we have 352 MB of RAM (and my computer is awesome, very fast, etc). After I install everything we'll have 224 MB of RAM left. Is THIS enough? I hope so...and if not, like I said earlier...can I get more? If yes, how?

Ah, ok I see what you're talking about. RAM is like MHz. Its only being used by a program that is currently running. I'm sure someone can explain it better than myself, but think of it like a library. The harddrive is the library. It has all the information stored in it. The RAM is like you. If you want to read about Huck Finn then you go to the library, get the book, and take it home and read it. Whenever you tell your computer that you're going to run ffxi then the RAM goes to the harddrive, asks for the information on the game and takes it back to the processor to run it. When you're done playing the game it takes it back to the hard drive and checks out another book. (I dont think it makes a return trip to the harddrive, but I said that to complete the metaphor)
I know that illustration isn't perfect (or even entirely accurate) and I hope I didnt confuse you. Basically what I wanted to say is that RAM isnt static. When you get done playing ffxi, it'll nolonger take up RAM and you're computer will run like it was never loaded.
That should be plenty of RAM. It never hurts to have more, and its gotten incredibly cheap, but you shouldnt have any problems running it with that much RAM.

Direct X should be free, if it's just to be able to perform multimedia functions and to play games for PC. At least, that's my understanding of Microsoft's Licensing Agreement.
