    Re: macro's backup help

At the character select screen, press Shift+Alt+Ctrl+B to backup your macros and map markers to the server, and Shift+Alt+Ctrl+R to restore them when you're done reinstalling. Also you can backup your user data folder in /FINAL FANTASY XI/user/ (or something to that effect, can't remember exactly where it is).

Sure, take the easy way out. Noone ever wants to build character and get a pen and paper to write 'em all down.
Seriously wish I'd known that trick earlier. Lost all my macros at one point due to randomness. Question though, can you periodically just save them to the server, so you can call them back if you ever lose them and need to reinstate them? Will the server hold onto them indefinately?
        I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

That's the part I'm not entirely sure of. At the moment, I'm in Japan and can only play once every few weeks. The time before last, I rewrote all my macros and saved them to the server using that method (at least, I'm 99% sure I did). The next time I played, two weeks later, the macros weren't there. So perhaps they're not there indefinitely. I suggest backing up using the traditional way and by this method too, and letting us know how you get on.

wow that tip is really really useful, i didn't even think ffxi had a feature like that. i read the whole NA instruction manual and couldn't find antyhign like that when i had to reformat once XD

Hmmm, I made a post earlier that explains this but its not here. Odd. Anyway, I just noticed this yesterday.

              From POL:
Yes. You have four slots for saving macros and markers. Each slot holds a set of macros and markers for one character. From the select character screen, press L1+L3 or Shift+Alt+Ctrl+(B)ackup, then use the directional buttons or arrow keys to choose a slot to save to. To load a set of macros and markers, press R1+R3 or Shift+Alt+Ctrl+(R)esume and use the directional buttons or arrow keys to choose a slot to load. Press R2+L2+R3+L3 or Shift+Alt+Ctrl+(D)elete to delete a set of macros and markers for a character. Macros and markers saved in this manner are saved to the HDD. If you save your macros and markers before reinstalling FINAL FANTASY XI, you will be able to retrieve them later. You cannot access saved macros and markers from a guest login. Please note that reinstalling the PlayOnline Viewer will erase all of your saved macros and markers.
              Bit useless really.
