  • Dumb Xbox 360 Question

Hey Guys, like many people, i gave up my PS2 version of FFXI and now I want to play it again on Xbox 360. I'm reserved for the $399 one, and since i'm in college, i can't buy an HDTV to go along, so i'm stuck with my 4:3 27" component video television, lol.

I was wondering if anyone knows or has seen it on a 4:3, and how good the game looks? Also, i don't know a lot about resolutions on TVs, but will ffxi on xbox 360 had the chat / player status boxes so close together, or will the menus be smaller, and allow more room for the picture?

    THANKS SO MUCH!

      Re: Dumb Xbox 360 Question

I really like playing on my TV screen becuae I can lay back and relax, but I can't do that while i'm at my computer. If i had to choose between PS2 graphics, and putting nicer graphics on my computer, i would definately choose computer, but i wanted to know if the 360 is different. Thanks though

If someone still knows the answer to my first questions that would be so helpful.

        Re: Dumb Xbox 360 Question

The Xbox 360 version of the game runs in a much higher resolution than the PS2 version, with graphics rivaling that of the PC version.

None of us can tell you how it really looks, since none of us have actually played it.

          Re: Dumb Xbox 360 Question

You're right, but I believe there are some people who test play games, and if they just happen to know what it would look like on a regular TV, then that would help.

I know that the xbox 360 has "graphics rivaling that of the PC version," but will ffxi, on a regular 4:3 TV have the game menus and that little sign that says "100%--> <--" smaller ? or will it still take up a LOT , and i mean A LOT, of the screen like the PS2 version, becuase i'm worried about that?

          Thanks again

              Re: Dumb Xbox 360 Question

Yeah, i've already looked at that video. It looks awesome (..especially compared to the PS2 version) but that's on a Sony Widescreen TV, and I wanted to know how much worse, or what it would look like on just a plain 4:3 27" Television.

The PS2 version sucks, and the menus take up too much space. I haven't been able to find any video of it on a normal TV (gueess Square-enix just wants to show off the best it can be, not normal tv)

so even if you haven't played it, is it possible to tell what it will look like?

btw, Pai Pai master, you're my favorite moderator, lol. Thanks

Then you won't see that much difference, except some possiblities, and the draw distance increase. The TV will not be able to go above the resolution, and depending on your TV won't get the nice colors contrast.

Things should be "smoother" even the PS2 can't compensate for some of the zones in ffxi.

Draw distance will be doubled, there are screenshots floating around of a side by side comparision of draw distance increase(via windower plugin). and it looks nice.

There is possible motion blurring in 360, by looks of the video.

Yes, this is why I suggested the VGA cables. because frankly, with reg. composite cables, you won't get any resolution upgrade.

This might be kind of a noob question, what if i get the s-video connection too? will that make any difference, or just make it look a little ..."prettier" lol, thanks

and i have component video on the back of my TV, so it's those green / blue hookups, will that help?? or is that just standard , lol

                      Re: Dumb Xbox 360 Question

If your TV does have component video support, you will be able to hook your Xbox360 up to your TV for higher resolution display than you get on normal TVs with current consoles. Both the Xbox360 and the Playstation 3 offer resolutions of up to 1080p with high definition TVs, but also support current TVs.

Yeah, that's what i heard, but i'm still confused, lol. My TV is an APEX 27" Flat Screen. It does NOT support HDTV, but in the back there are COMPONENT VIDEO imputs (white, red, red, blue, and green). Will that make a difference over the menu sizes and resolution?

I have a picture, but don't know how t turn the flash off, so i hope this helps, what do you think???

                          Re: Dumb Xbox 360 Question

Component and HDTV are two completly different things, you will see more crisp gameplay compared to Composite (YRW).

No, it won't, the only options you have are

                          a) HDTV
                          b) computer monitor.

Thanks a lot, i finally understand. The one thing i wanted from FFXI was smaller menus, and still play it on my TV, but that's not happening , lol. I'm in college, so money isn't there, it's gonna be a while for HDTV then. Thank you

If you have a good PC monitor you might want to try connect the S-video into it. I did it myself with my PS2 and it looks pretty good with the ability to save movies/screenshots at anytime.

I use a cheap $14 or so VDO-in card in my PC. I'm not so good at hardware tho so someone else should be bale to reccomend you what to use :D
