Hi, Im buying the HDD and FFXI for the PS2, off of ebay, and I've been hearing alot about how if the accounts been deleted to long than the serial key that came with it, is useless. I asked the seller, and he said he didn't know, but he hasn't played it in almost a year, so do any of you know if the game will still work. And if it wont, is it possible to buy it anyways, and than just buy an unopened FFXI game only(without the HDD) and than install that one instead, or does it have to be with the same hard drive and all that? Anyways, anyone who can help, would be greatly appreciated.

Buy only brand new games or games that have never been registered. Cheap isnt always better. -

I wouldn't take the risk of buying the game used. There's always the chance that this person might not be telling the whole truth. For all you know, he could also own the PC version, and be playing with the same account that he's supposed to be giving to you.

I have a copy of the PS2 version of FFXI w/ legit cd keys (never used) if you need it, but you need to find your own copy of the HDD-Baka Inu!

If the used PS2 game/HDD is cheap enough, you might consider buying both that and the Vana'diel Collection DVD ($30), the latter will give you new codes for POL, FFXI, both Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia, and Tetra Master, and ensure you get your free 30 day trial. I'm only going to mumble since it's not really legit, but there are ways to play ffxi PS2 on a non-sony sold HDD. It requires some mucking around, so if you got a CD key or account, try sniffing around.Comment

Ya, I need the PS2 version, because my computers isn't that great. My friend who owns the game said, that if i install FFXI on the ps2, i could buy a copy of the PC version, and the codes for the PC version would still work on the PS2 version, do any of you guys know if thats true or not?Comment

Ok, thanks, because I was planning on when I get a newer computer, getting the Vana Diel Collection, so I can play on either the comp or the PS2. So, the account codes will work on both than....ok thanks.Comment

I have the PS2 and PC version aswell, to Install POL and FFXI the keys are different per system and will not work. PS2 has a different encoder to decrypt the keys as the PC version. This will not work.Originally posted by TheGrandMom

This is not the case. Just as someone has already stated, The Registration keys ARE universal. I know, because I have both the PS2 and PC version and to save my friend some money I mailed him the PC copy of FFXI along with my unused PS2 Registration keys and he's curently on my server playing just fine. Sucks for him tho, as I now have the PC copy back in my hands and he was recently forced to reformat, thus forcing him to buy his own copyOriginally posted by Medalink

Then you are doing something wrong. My entire family plays FFXI and we have all our accounts on the PS2 and PC versions as I clearly stated before. We started with the PC version and when we got the PS2 version we used our keys on that also. Odd mine wont let me, I tried last night as I reformated my PC, I used my PS2 key as I couldent find PC and it wouldent work. I called POL Tech Support and they told me PC keys will only work with PC versions and PS2 with PS2, So I am unsure how or why yours are working but mine is not. I later on foundmy PC key and got it installed.
