  • FFXI PC help.

Alright, well, I've decided to start playing FFXI soon and I'm not too sure if the graphics card I'm thinking of buying will run it.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130188

So, will that run it or no? x_x

It's PCI. not PCI Express or AGP. You sure you want PCI?

Well, if PCI Express would work in a normal PCI Slot and wouldn't cost a whole crapload more.

And I don't have an AGP Slot on my computer. =P

I would NOT recommend you get this card. I have this one, and it's possibly one of the worst nVidia has ever put out EVER.

PCI Express is not compatible with PCI. I was just making sure. The card would theoretically work, but I recommend saving up and upgrading to a new PC. Even moving to an obsolete AGP platform would help and be relatively cheap (200-400 is prossible or you can get one on a finance plan with certain companies). I hate to ask what speed CPU you are currently using.

Yeah, my mom is thinking about getting a whole 'nother computer for Christmas seeing as this one is 4-5 years old. But I just can't wait to get FFXI that long, I've already waited a while. xD CPU Speed? Uh, 2.70GHz? o_o. Yep, my computer sucks.

And thanks, theoretically is better than me guessing it will ( I know very little about how computers work and such, as you can tell.)

I figured it wouldn't be the best one. But right now I only have an integrated card and I'm on a small budget. ._.

2.7? I'm surprised the cpu is so high for a pc that doesn't have an agp slot. 5200 will work. Just don't expect blazing performance.

If you are good with computers or some one you know you probably can just get a new motherboard and video card and not have to buy a new computer, but one thing i find contradicting, your computer is 5 years old and has a 2.7GHz cpu? are you thinking 270MHz?

Anything that will play it is fine by me. ^_^

Eh, the age is in the ballpark. But, no, it's 2.7GHz.

can you list your full specs and model #. a 5 year old 2.7GHz with no AGP is wierd.

Holy crap, I just looked up the model design on HP and I'm way, way off. It's only two years old. o_o Don't trust me and numbers.

My HDD is only 30GB, though. Man, do I feel stupid now.

Oh, it's HP. That sheds some light on the matter. I hope you got enuf space on the drive to install ffxi.

I dont think your computer can run ffxi without a motherboard upgrade, but that may not be posible because it is "uATX" and i have never heard of that format and may be hard to find one with AGP. good luck with getting FFXI to work but with that computer i dont think its posible without a motherboard upgrade, sorry.

Try vana'diel bench 3 just to make sure, you never know, http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/mul...ownload/bench/

I believe it's micro-atx. The u is micro. The game doesn't distinguish between chipsets. As long as it meets the minimum requirements at http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/beginners/win/ (even though they only list intel cpus) then it should run.

Case in point, Min reqs list any type of graphic card, "NVIDIA® GeForce™ series graphics processing unit with 32MB or ATI® RADEON™ 9000 series graphics card" while Recommended reqs list AGP.

But also in the minimums is a "ATI® RADEON™ 9000 series graphics card" and i think onboard graphics are less than that. But try vana'diel bench just to make sure.

And when i made the comment about the uATX, i ment that it may not be able to fit a full sized motherboard. but there should be some full features micro-ATX mobos so that could be an option.
