  • Help Needed in identifying a problem

Hi! I have played FFXI for about a month and everthing is just fine except for one problem. This problem happened every two days or so when I am playing FFXI.

    The problem is this:
I would be playing FFXI and was happily leveling when suddenly the whole computer hang on me with the image hanging still and a sharp sound coming from the speakers. Have tried waiting the problem to disappear but this situation persisted. In the end, I have to reset my computer.

So what problem am I facing? Any help is appreciated.

I play both PC and Ps2 and have never had that problem on my PC, but I have had my Ps2 freeze up as you described. Fortunately it doesn’t happen to me as often as it does to you (maybe once a month at most). As Neighbortaru stated, your Pc maybe to hot mainly your graphics card. I would recommend that you reinstall FFXI and if the problem persist check out your video card for problems.

I know my post isn’t very helpful but at least now you know other people have had the same problem. Best of luck finding a solution.

I'd also check your sound drivers. If you are running a Soundblaster card, there was a set of drivers at one point that were notoriously buggy and would crash the computer in just that fashion.

Heat could definitely be part of the issue as well, crack open the case and give everything a good cleaning if it looks dusty.
