  • Direct3D Error.

I recently installed Japanese POL and well when I hit "Play" (pol>ffxi) it gives me an error "Direct3D graphics card something" I've been trying to resolve this issue for months now, even talked to POL.com rep. and he didn't really help me...just told me to install JP POL first and then EN. I'll post a pic of the error as soon as i figure out how to >.<

    Thanks ;;

      Re: Direct3D Error.

When you guys post a pic of the error, or even just copy down the error message, PM me and I'll see what I can do. >,> I have a good knack of fixing DX errors or at least finding out why they are happening.

            Re: Direct3D Error.

            Hey guys,
I havent found anything deffinate but I do know now that a -1 error is an unsupported hardware error. Post what hardware you guys are running on your computers and I might be able to dig more up. At this point I can only suggest to update your DirectX to 9.0c, and/or get a new video card. I say video card since it's a Direct3D error. Usually this error is only thrown when the call to create a D3DObject returns false, which means the hardware couldn't do it.

              Something that worked for me

I had this same error when I installed the JP POL Viewer after the NA version yesterday. Couldn't figure out why FFXI would run from the NA Viewer, but not when I tried to load it from the Japanese... however I stumbled across something that worked.

If you've changed the registries to point the JP viewer to your original FFXI installation to avoid installing FFXI twice... you might want to take a look at the FFXI registries in:

              HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Playonline > SQUARE > FinalFantasyXI
              (Japanese FFXI Settings)

and compare them to those in:
              HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > PlayonlineUS > SquareEnix > FinalFantasyXI.
              (North American FFXI Settings)

(Compare your "Japanese" FFXI settings to your "North American" FFXI settings)

The first thing I noticed is that on the Japanese end of things... FFXI didn't have any resolution settings (It had 0 value for registries 0001, 0002, 0003, and 0004 in the location I mentioned above), and it would give the Direct3D error when it tried to start FFXI with "0" for all the in game resolutions. I just copied the values in my NA registries into the Japanese registries and it worked fine....

But make sure you all the values for registries 0000 through to 0032 match. I haven't gone messing about to figure out which each one is... but for sure one is sound/music... and I'm sure you'll be wanted that turned on as well.

If we had a Japanese FFXI Config tool, I'm sure it would be easier than trying to mess around with the registries... but it works and I hope it fixes your problems.

P.S. Don't worry about any "bFirst" registry which was in my NA FFXI registry folder, but not the JP one. I have no idea what its for, but I didn't worry about it and everything works fine.
