What types of character names are generally excepted in FFXI?

hell yea gryff ..theres liike quite a few different legolas on our server (i think ive seen more than one way) hehe actually there are all kinds of names from lord of the rings on our server. if your gonna pick a unoriginal name pick HAMBURGULAR! i dunno, but if i seen a galka as that name id laugh.

Yeah, the name can help make or break your character. On top of that though your skill plays a part in it too. On my server there is a Tarutaru that named himself "Speedbump". Not really much of a name, but it got a good laugh out of me seeing him. The names on my server vary drastically, the ones that are were you kind of want to go Ughhh are when they use names as Titles like:

There should be tons and tons names weather they be English origin or be Fantasy/Japanese/German/Russian/etc.. that you could pick from so really no reason to make up such wierd ones the inital set I showed. Some names like the one about Speedbump can be acceptable if done in good humor.

There is a player named 'Kingofgods' on my server, and apparently I saw him dead... so if the king of gods died... wouldn't it be the end of the world?

'Bigsneaky' - then you see him running into aggro in a very-sneaky way... ie run directly into an undead that will aggro...

'Finaldeath' and then you see him dead.

'Deathbringer' and you see his whole party dead... yep.. death bringer for the party...

and so on... so if you choose these supposedly cool(?) names... becareful not to be bitten when you did something ironic against your name...

I saw an elvaan named Cybercat.... He was hunting and killing 'too weak' monsters at his level taking all the leveling material in La Theine. He was a Drg/Rdm. I wouldn't expect anything less...

What kind of person do you have to be, to try and name yourself after some one with a character who looks nothing like him?

If you name yourself any variation of Sephiroth you are a loser. That goes with any other character's name from the FF series.

I agree, i've seen many, well hundreds of stupid names that makes no sense. A name should be a name, which is something someone would call you, not Spacewolf or so stupid stuff like that.

I'm sorry, but I don't even see why people care about what people do with their names. If someone wants to waste $16.95 US to be a called something dumb like CloudXII, then why should i care or any one else for that matter. The two mules i have on my server are called Elrond and Bilbo, and no one has ever complained, excepted people named Frodo and FrodoBaggins.

Thereis a guy in my linkshell who use to be called Osamabinsmoking, they made him change it, I think they even deleted his character...

And I also remember seeing a guy named Bildo running around.

my name isnt actualy original, its famous, but to a selected crowd. i picked Shuusaku, im pretty sure the other people who get it are the japanese or have seen Hikaru no Go

I've always tried to go with a literary character...oliver twist??? lol
But i try to pick a name from a book that not everyone has read, like legolas i swear ive seen 5 variations of that name on my server in the last two weeks....and most of the suck.
