What types of character names are generally excepted in FFXI?

Im thinking about choosing a name for a new character in ffxi and was wondering just what type of names ppl dont have a problem with are fantasy names like targurorm or aragon or gordir excepted in this game by other players?

Or are more japanese sounding names like hayato or nuijisama excepted in this game. Please tell me I really dont want to chose a name that sticks out too much in this game if everyone has a different type of name that I dont.

i like ppl to go with real names, anything that's a name is fine with me...

some people use stupid stuff, cheesburger, brucewillis whaterver there both names i've seen but i thought where stupid...

but imo if you pick anything that sounds like an actual name it's ok

Yeah, but it's not very original.

Nothing against the Japanese, but so many people are in some sort of Japanese frenzy and use those names all the time. Most names are acceptable as long as it sounds like an actual name and it's not a well known one like Bruce Willis. For the most part, just let your imagination run wild.

Any name is accepted... O.o; We don't have to be mary, susan and tom to play.... there is a mithra in my server named Iamaguy or somethin... and he has a lot of friends as far as I know..

I've seen a little bit of everything in the names on my server. My favorite ones are ones that are funny, luckily i was able to get pretty much whatever name i wanted at NA PC release.

As a guide on names not to pick just use common sense. There are very few indicators about people in on-line games and your name is the most obvious.

People will judge you on your name wether you want them to or not. So if you choose a name that is immature or just outright pointless don't be surprised when people treat you in a negative way.

So here's a list of things people have done with their names that have made me sigh in dispair in my time on FFXI.

1) Do not have a name like RodDick, BigMember, Madskills, IAmTheBestFighter or any other name of a similar intellectual extreme.

2) Do not use l33t in your name.

3) Do not add large numbers of x's to the end of your name because you think its cool.

4) Do not use names of famous people or variations of names that have already been taken (Sephiroth, Sepiroth, Sephiruth or Cloud, Clowd, Clooud etc etc etc).

5) Pick something non offensive to all races on the planet as people will have no problems in either:
a) Calling a GM and getting your character renamed if it insults them.
b) Blacklisting you.

Avoid those and any other name you pick should be fine.

Lol you do not know how many JP I have seen with names like this. There is a Kenshin, Yuwna, Yuuna, Yuffy, yufie, etc etc. Lol^^

There is actually no problem of people using SSJVegetaMMCVXIIII or whatever they feel like..of course, those players are usually ...kids(annoying in another word), but I had a friend named Cloud once, and he was pretty nice.. so using famous name isn't a problem.. Though more original names would be preferred.

my in game name is Balz ppl i dint choose it at the input charatcer name screen i hit the + button to randomize my name (+=randomize your name) and Balz is the first name that came up so i used it thinking it would be funny... now i get hell for it everyday with ppl calling me immature and saying im a pervert:sweat:

You could get whatever you want and you chose Bluntman!? Do you know how many variations of that there are?

The NA players usually tend to name themselves after celebs or iterations of characters from older FF games:
