ALL OF THE FINAL FANTASY XI INFORMATION YOU CAN HANDLE

    NOTE
This is only my opinion and not all of the information may be correct. I don’t import FFXI so I have to rely on what other people say. It may be wrong because they don’t know what they are talking about or just because the US version will be different. The only way to confirm this information is to wait until it comes out in the US and check it out for yourself. This information will also change as the game is updated. And if you have any questions, after reading this more than once, just post a reply with them here.

    STATS
If you want to know the stats for each race, main job, and support job check here. You might want to check here to see if your race and jobs work together, or if changing one of them might be better. Here’s what each stat does.
HP- Hit Points are the amount of health you have.
MP- Magic Points are the amount of magic you can use.
STR- Strength helps determine your melee and ranged attack power.
DEX- Dexterity helps determine your hit rate and your accuracy of your melee attacks.
VIT- Vitality helps determine your defense.
AGI- Agility helps determine your evasion and the accuracy of your ranged attacks.
INT- Intelligence helps determine how much your black magic hits for.
MND- Mind helps determine how much your white magic heals for.
CHR- Charisma helps determine how much items cost and helps with bard and beast master abilities.

    SUPPORT JOBS
A support or sub job is the opposite a main job, but unlike a main job, to be able to get a support job you must do a quest. You only need to do one quest to be able to have a support job, but you can’t go on the support job quest until your main job’s level is about 18. All support jobs start at level one, unless you have already leveled that job up. Your support job can only be half of your main jobs level, but you can’t level up a sub job ever. To level up a sub job you have to make it your main job level it up as your main job and then switch it back to your sub job. When you equip a sub job you get all of the qualities, abilities, and magic of that job, except the level one super ability. You will get a percentage of that job’s stats. Here are the approximate percentages of your sub jobs stats that you should get- 50% of its MP, 33% its CHR, and 25% of all its other stats. You should note that these values might be wrong, or they might only be correct if your support job is exactly half the level of your main job. Also remember that you can’t equip items that are meant for your sub job. You can only equip items meant for your main job, this is to prevent twinking.

    ADVANED JOBS
An advanced job is the opposite a basic job, but unlike a basic job, to be able to get an advanced job must complete one of at least five quests. Each advanced job has one specific quest that must be done in order to obtain a certain job, but before you can go on an advanced job quest you must have a basic main job level of about 30. To make an advanced job your main job, you have to first level up a basic job, then complete the advanced job quest, and then you can make it your main job, but it will start at level one again. To make an advanced job a sub job you have to complete both an advanced job quest and the support job quest. The advanced job quests start at the following locations: Ranger Quest- Windurst, Paladin Quest- San’Doria, Dark Knight Quest- Bastok, Beast Master Quest- Jueno, and Bard Quest- Jueno.

    MOG HOUSE
A mog house is your home and it is very important. Here are some of the things that you can do at your mog house and most of these you can only do at your mog house. Store things that you don’t want to carry on you, change your main and sub jobs, grow plants, receive and sent items to other mog houses, and you can decorate your mog house. Growing plants can give you items and decorating your house can help you store more things there. You get a mog house for free when you make your character. No one else can go into your house and you can get to anyone else’s.

    KINGDOMS
There are three kingdoms you can choose to start in and make your home. The Federation of Windurst is the one with the best and cheapest magic. The Republic of Bastok has great armor and weapons, but they aren’t that cheap. And The Kingdom of San’Doria has is centrally located, so traveling is easiest from it. There is also Grand Duchy of Jueno which is the center of trade, but you can’t start there. Windurst is the Tarutaru’s and Mithra’s native kingdom, Bastok is the Hume’s and Galka’s native kingdom, and San’Doria is the Elvaan’s native kingdom, Jueno has no native race. I have heard that if your race starts in there native kingdom you get a stat boosting ring. So you should probably start in your native kingdom or the same kingdom as the rest of our clan because if we are not in the same kingdom it could be hard to find each other. Here’s a list of what each ring does to your starting stats.
    San’Doria Ring: STR+1, MND+1 (Elvaan)
    Bastok Ring: HP+3, VIT+1, DEX+1 (Hume, Galka)
    Windurst Ring: MP+3, AGI+1, INT+1 (Tarutaru, Mithra)

    MISSIONS AND QUESTS
You might not want to start in your native kingdom, because each kingdom has a different set of missions that you have to do to get to the Shadow Lord, he’s kind of like the final boss but the game has a lot more missions you can do after you beat him. So it’s kind of like each kingdom is its own game. In addition to your job level you also have a mission rank, which is base on what missions you have beat and determines what missions you can do, this is to keep the storyline linear. You start on rank 1 and after you beat the Shadow Lord you become a rank 6. There are at least 8 ranks, but after rank 6 all three kingdoms missions are the same. The main difference between a mission and a quest is simple; a quest is not part of the story. Some quests have requirements such as having a certain mission rank or job level. The other difference between a mission and a quest is the fact that quests give you something and some missions might not. Quests can give you an item, a weapon, an ability (like to equip a sub job), an advanced job, or even more space to carry items.

    SERVERS
This is very important, we all must start on the same server or we won’t be able to fight together. There are only two ways of that we start on the same server, because you are assigned to the one with the lease people when you get done making your character. One, a world pass, world passes let you and up to four other people change servers. For this option to work you have to know someone from the server that you want to go to, because you can not buy a world pass your self, you need them to buy it for you (with gil) and then give you the WP code. But WP’s can be very expensive depending on how many people use it and which server you want to go to. The other, option is after you have created a character check to see what server you are on, and if it is not the right one delete that character and make a new one, with the same options, until it say that you are on the correct sever. Here’s a list of the sever names that are in Japan right now: Bahamut, Shiva, Titan, Ramuh, Phoenix, Carbuncle, Fenrir, Sylph, Varfale, Alexander, Leviathan, Odin, Ifrit, Diabolos, Caitsith, Quetyalcoatl, Siren, Unicorn, Gilgamesh, Ragnarok, Pandemonium, and Garuda. I here that Bahamut, Shiva, and Ragnarok are very crowded so if it’s the same with the US version we might not want to use one of those severs.

    EQUIPMENT
Every job can equip different weapons and armor but only the armor linked to your primary job. This is a list of the slots available to you: Primary weapon, Shield/Secondary Weapon, Range, Ammo, Head, Neck, Earring, Earring, Body, Hand, Ring, Ring, Back, Waist, Legs, and Feet slots.

SEX, FACE, HAIR, AND BODY SIZE
In addition to what I have already said you will also have to pick a sex, Mithra are only female and Galka are only male the rest are both, face, each race and sex has 8 different faces, hair color, each face has two hair colors, and body size, small, medium, or big. This gives you a total of 366 different characters, but remember some will be used a lot more than others and you will barely be able to tell the difference between some. And if you really care about looking different just remember that each job and level has different armor and each armor looks different. All of these things are only for looks, that’s it.

    BATTLE SYSTEM
The battles are in real time but you still use command menus. The battles are not random you can see the monsters on the screen, and you can see other peoples battles and join them if they accept your help. You can form a party with up to six members, or an alliance of three parties, 18 member, alliances are mostly for bosses. After a while, your party will collect a lot of items from defeated monsters. Items are given out either by the leader, the person that started the party, or they are thrown into a pool. In a pool, people can choose what items they want, but if two or more people pick the same item, the game generates a number for the players and the player with the highest number gets that item.

    part two

    DEATH
When you die you have a few chooses. 1) To wait for 1 hour and at the end of this hour you will be revived at the same place where you died. But you will lose 10% of the experience needed to get to your next level, and if you die too much you can go down a level. 2) Be revived right now at your home point and you still lose the 10% experience. 3) Choose to wait an hour, but then someone revives you. If you do this you will only lose about 2.5% of the experience needed to get to your next level.

    GUILDS
Guilds are not clans, they are in game organizations that you can join to learn how to make item with crystals and other raw materials. The Cooking Guild makes items to gain status effects and regenerate HP/MP faster. The Bone Workers Guild makes armor and weapon from bone. The Fishing Guild can catch fish to sell or eat. The Carpenter Guild makes shields, instruments, arrows, and furniture. The Tailor Guild makes clothes with defensive and magical properties. The Alchemist Guild makes potion and refines metals, can make bullets. The Jeweler Guild makes magical rings and necklaces. The Leatherworking Guild makes belts, armor, shoes and more. The Blacksmith Guild makes metal items, but metal is expensive and hard to get.

    CRYSTALS
There are 8 types of crystals and that are only used to make items, like in FF IX, but the skills you use to make items increase as you use them so that you can make better items. The crystals are fire- burn/heating (cooking), water- melt/liquefy (probably dissolve, alchemy, earth- combine, connect (armor/weapon creation), wind- cutting (armor/weapon creation, woodworking), ice- freezing/solidify (unknown uses), thunder- analysis/disassembly (unknown uses), light- enrich/revive (unknown uses), darkness- corrupt/decompose (unknown uses). To receive a crystal as an item after a battle you must have a signet or crysta on you.

    SIGNETS, CRYSTA, AND GIL
A signet is an enchantment that can be put on you by any guard from your kingdom. Signets are free and you don’t need to complete a quest to get one. You’re probably thinking “If it’s free and you can get it as soon as you make a character it must be crap, right?” wrong. Signet do lots of things to help you, they give you Conquest Points, your kingdom Conquest Points, and allow you to get crystals as an item after a battle. Conquest Points sever two purposes. One, to help give your kingdom more land, and two, to help you get items. Every time you get a Conquest Point so dose your kingdom. And once a week each kingdoms Conquest Points are tallied up to see how much land each kingdom gets, but forget about your kingdom. The only thing that the amount of land they have effects is how hard it is for you to get Conquest Points for yourself. With your Conquest Points you can purchase items. The items are ranked 1-6, sound familiar. It should because it is the same as your mission rank. But in addition to having the right rank you also need enough points. Rank 1 items cost 1,000 Conquest Points and it doubles each time meaning Rank 6 items cost 32,000 Conquest Points. It can take a long time to get that many points, but keep this in mind. Rank 6 items sells for over 150,000 Gil, making this one of the best ways to get Gil in the game. Another way to get Gil is by running a bazaar, but this way takes even longer than getting Conquest Points to collect the big bucks. The last way is by getting a high guild level and selling the items you make with it; this takes the longest but can also get you the most Gil. Signets go away after an hour or two, the time depends on your rank (the higher the longer it lasts) and your kingdom’s rank (the lower the longer it lasts). You should always try to have a signet on you; even if you aren’t going for Conquest Points it doesn’t hunt anything. Oh, I almost forgot crysta is another enchantment cast by friendly guards that lets you get crystals more often than a signet, but no Conquest Points. Crysta also wears off.

    WEAPON SKILLS
Weapon Skills can only be executed when your Tactical Points (TP) meter is 100% or over (a TP meter is like an overdrive meter, it’s filled up by doing damage to an enemy). Obviously higher the TP the more damage it does. After another player use Weapon Skill wait 2-3 seconds and then do your Weapon Skill and if you successfully do it, it should show a bonus animation. You can connect more than just two Weapon Skills. Level 1 Weapon Skills can connect to each other and Level 2 and above Weapon Skills are the Finishers, after you do a 2+ Weapon Skill, the combo is over.

    CHOCOBOS
They Can only be ridden in field areas, not dungeon or town type. Abilities, Items, Healing actions, and Magic can’t be used while riding. You cannot fight while riding. You can target monsters to track, however. Logging out, temporarily going to the POL, and item trading are also forbidden. If your HP becomes 0 while riding, you are removed from the Chocobo. You must be at least level 20 to complete the quest that lets you ride Chocobos. You must be at least 4 grasses, an item dropped by the Wadi Hare. You can only get your first Chocobo from the stable in Jueno. Chocobos are rented, you can’t own one. Chocobos get tired and when they do they will drop you and leave. While riding the Chocobo do not go near any monster/mages that are casting fire type spells. The Chocobo will drop you and run away if you ever get close enough. Your Chocobo can dig. To dig you must give your Chocobo a Gisaru Fruit (one fruit per dig). The area around you where you dig affects the possible items. If you dig near water, you can get water-based items. Dig in a desert area, get earth based items, etc.

    REQUIREMENTS TO PLAY- PS2 VERSION
You’ll be able get FFXI for the PS2 or the PC. The PS2 version should be out in about February and the PC version should version should be out in about May of 2003, I’m saying about because there has been no official release date announced at this time, but when it is released it will be released in Canada on the same day and I think we will be on the same servers. To play the PS2 version you will need the following: (all of the prices are in US dollars)
    PS2 console- 199.99
    PS2 Ethernet/ modem- 39.99
PS2 HDD (hard disk drive)- about 80-100
    PS2 Memory card- 24.99
    FFXI- 49.99
A monthly subscription to POL (play online)– about 10 per month
    And an ISP- prices vary
In addition to this there are also optional changes, 75 cents per month for each character after your first, and/or 75 cents per month to play Tetra Master Online (the card game from 9). The PS2 HDD has not come out yet, that's why I don't know the price. I do know that it will be 40GB and a PC 40GB hard drive goes for about 80. I also know that it has not come out yet because FFXI will be the first PS2 game to use it. They have not put out a release date for them yet, it should be the same day.

      TO IMPORT FFXI
If you just can’t wait, and I can understand that, you can always import it from Japan; it’s been out there for a number of months. But to get the Japanese version for the PS2 you need all of the stuff that is required to play, but they all have to be from Japan, even the console. To get the Japanese PC version you need to meet the requirements, but you can use your US computer, you just need a Japanese OS, but the US version of Windows 2000/XP we also work. This is because Windows 2000/XP has an option to read/write in Japanese, but nothing before them did. You probably shouldn’t do this unless you know at least a little Japanese. I have heard that you don’t really need to know any, because of how patient and helpful Japanese people are, unlike US gamers, the in game actions, the fact that some Japanese people know English, and because of the number of US importers that can translate for you or you could just talk with importer. But it won’t be the same kind of gaming experience as if you spoke Japanese or waited for the US version, that and waiting is a lot cheaper.

      LIVE CAMERAS AND MUSIC
Here are link to 3 live cameras that are broadcasting feeds from the Japanese version of FFXI. I can only get sound from them (probably because of my 56k connection). Hope you have better luck with them then I do. cam 1, cam 2, cam 3. Check here for FFXI and other FF music.

      RUMORS
I have heard rumors that there may be more jobs, including Ninja- can throw weapons at enemies, Samurai- a master of sword techniques, Summoner- can summon creature to help, and Dragoon- can jump attack, or maybe even more races in the US version. They will also most likely raise the level cap (it has already been raised from 50 to 55, and then from 55 to 60 in different updates); they might also put in a player verses player option (a command or an area), more magic, and make other improvements or make it suck.

      FROM
I got this information the same places I get all of my info, ffxionline and ffxiguru. These are two great sources for FFXI info and have tons of links to other good sites, including mine.

Jenious, I suggest you delete the part about deleting your character and getting on another server with the new one. Square has circumvented this flaw, and now all characters you make go on the same server as the first one.

                  That's why I got a 4200.

PS- I voted that this is too long.
Thats the thing. My computer has 800mhz so If I got a new video card it would almost coast half a computer. So should I spend 500 for 2 ghtz and get by the requirments easily or hit the bare minimum spending around 120?

                    i say this from experience..
                    just buy a new computer...
it's much more effective and cheaper...

                    nooooo..not the monitor, mouse, keyboard..etc..
just buy the tower with all the goods inside, and then move the stuff from your computer now, into it..
                    and trust me..
it'll be alot cheaper in the long run...

i have the same thing you do...
                    exactly...

and i've been looking around, and so far the best deal is a 500 dollar tower i saw that is just the parts, but great parts..
but it has no windows/programs or anything..
but i have windows XP Cd and other crap..
so if i buy that i can move my stuff from my computer now, over to it and make the better comp even better...

but that was planning, til i got into the everquest beta and went out and bought all the PS2 online stuff...
                    heh..
                    sooooooooooooooo...
i'm just gonna have to wait.

ALSO..just a note. having testing EQOA, it will not need a HDD...so, the talk about FFXI not needing one may be true.
                    we'll have to see.

NICE!!!!! cuz i don't want to shell out another $80-100 for a periferal that probably wont be used by that many games

Thanks for relieving some money stress! (But then again, FFXI won't be out for several months . So if I could keep $130-$150 till it comes out, the HDD wouldn't be a problem )

I've heard that also, but I've heard that you still can do that. And I've also heard that it only doesn't let you on overcrowded server (like Bahamut or Ragnarok). If an importer could confirm one of these or if you know a post were they already did, that would be very helpful.

I'm thinkin of just buying the video card, and after I get the game, I might get a new processer.

If it doesn't require a HDD i will definitely buy the PS2 NA version, then when the PC version comes out i'll just get that and transfer that character to the PC version. I'd rather just not have to wait for the PC version and get that on March 4(or whenever the release date is), but, hey i can't have everything.
