  • Guely's adventure episode VI

Hey guys.... it's been... uh... a WHILE. I posted these episodes a very long time ago, but I omitted this one because it was VERY long. I did 5 episodes in 1 day... I spent hours porting the posts from another forum which wasn't this one which had it looking like a mess.

I wanted to make an easier version to read, one that wouldn't make you have to click the links to view the picture's nor have to scroll all around the place because the picture's weren't centered.

Another goal was to properly structurize the episodes, many people have them by the original number of posts that Guely made... each entry does not mean it's an individual adventure... so I just read everything and put it in order. That's why this journal only goes to episode 6, but however, it includes everything from all the other journals you'll find that have "more" episodes so to speak. There's an alternative journal entry that has Guely leveling up at an extremely high level... that was done much later than these journals. It has him in an alliance and a pretty heavy dosage of high level stuff some people don't like to hear about cause they feel it's "spoilers." Anyway, I'll be posting that one shortly after this, but it's not an actual episode... it's more of an update on what he was doing in between all this stuff. From level 20 to level 55 that's a lot of levels... so you can guess he was playing a lot before he had time to make another small, yet exciting post on his experiences. Like you know, he stopped making journals, but we have great new journal makers that have followed his footsteps and taken the task seriously and have made really amazing journals.

The feedback from the original posts was somewhat weird, even with the notice that these were not my journals... oh well, maybe putting it in red AND bold will help.

*This was the longest journal I had to port over. It was so long I just couldn't bear do it in the same day I did the others (though I started and got almost half of it done), and then I left the forum cause I was pissed off people thought I was crazy for thinking FFXI wouldn't come out when everyone thought it would. Now that I'm back, I thought I should finish what I had in mind... and hopefully... someday... maybe Guely will pop up and make a new one.*

**A special thank you goes out to the new "Guelys" that have been popping up recently. Your journals have been great and just as inspiring as the "father" of FFXI journals. If porting his journal was tiring, I can imagine what it is trying to keep a steady flow of journals of your own. No one is forcing you to do them, but we appreciate and uphold you for every entry you guys make. I look foward to many more journals, even after the game is finally out and we're all playing together. So once again, thank you. **

So let's get on to it! (though like 99.999% of you read it already, I just want it the episode to stay close to it's brothers here at FFXIOnline.)

Hi everyone! Back with my 6th Adventure. A lot has changed, so let me tell you a little about my character. I'm a level 24 Black Mage now with a White Mage support job. Here are my stats:

    HP - 245
    MP - 316

    Str - 17
    Dex - 26
    Vit - 19
    Agi - 29
    Int - 35+5
    Mnd - 23+7
    Chr - 26

I have also been accepted into a Link Shell called Remedy. Great group of people. They all speak English so it made the game much better for me. There are about 30 members in the Link Shell and many of them around my level.

I have traveled all over the world now. Now I have to back track and explore a lot of the caves and hidden areas I missed. But here is my story about exploring the rest of the world and reaching Juno.

    Part 1 - Windurst

Ah... Windurst. By far an impressive city. I ran through it turning my head every which way trying to see everything. Going through all the shops I started wishing I started the game in this city rather then Bastok. I noticed it was cheaper to get mage equipment and spells here. They also had more. Windurst was a very impressive city, but it seemed empty compared to Bastok.

In one area of Windurst I came across a huge tree reaching up into the sky. I saw massive roots sunken beneath the lake that surrounded the tree while I was talking towards it.Seeing a bright light, I walk up close it only to find myself transported inside. Slowly walking further in I find out the name is Heaven's Tower and is where the government officials work. Very interesting place, so I take the time to explore around.

Searching the entire town I finally left to explore the savannas outside of Windurst. Definitely the most scenic lands of them all. It was very exciting seeing this new land full different monsters. A little near the entrance I found a tree with a hole leading underground. Curious, I ran in.

It was more man built then just a cavern. With plenty of Goblins and bats to fend off, I search the structure. I find magical pillars in particular places and even some hidden behind secret doors. Unsure what they are used for, I move on searching the rest of the area.

Down a few hidden hallways I found Balloons. Bringing back memories from previous Final Fantasy games I fought a few. Then I decided it was time to find something new to explore in this new land. So I set off back to the savannas.

Coming across a few new monsters I battle them with ease as they were close to the city and weak. Running across the vast savannas was great, definitely was going to come back here again. But first I had to check this new land out then journey to San d'Oria to meet a new importer there. Tartar!

Continuing through the savannas I find that there are several tress that all have a way underground in them. I explore another to find the same man made tunnels with magical alters placed in them. With nothing new to see, I exit trying to find a new area to search.

I search the Windurst country. Huge areas stretching way beyond my vision. I fight many birdman walking about until I come across a building in the middle of no where. Turns out it was a check point. An place I can make my home point incase I die. Then I will be transported here instead of back to town. Making this my homepoint, I look at the map and notice an area that I haven't been to. I quickly set off to it.

Reaching my destination I find this is the home of the Birdman. Being careful not be ambushed, I creep around trying to fight one at a time. With no map of the area, I soon became lost. But I continued further until I reached a cave. Worms attacking me in every direction. Luckily they were weak and I killed them all off.

BAM! I fall through the ground into a pit. Surround by worms and a Birdman that can play music. I panic at first, unsure where I was or what was attacking me. But I set my eyes on the Piper knowing the worms were of little threat to me. It became a very close battle. It ended with me having no MP and very little HP left. So I ran into the corner to rest.

Getting excellent experience. I figured I might as well stay in this pit and level up a little bit. Still at level 13 I needed to. Plus, the Birdman are one of the few monsters that drop money. I fought them off until I reached level 15. Next the trick was to actually get out of the pit. With no map, it was going to be interesting.

Not only was I lost, but I could only fight one monster at a time then I had to rest. So by the time I killed a few monsters they would already start to respawn. I was constantly surrounded. After about 15 minutes I finally got out of the pit, but I was still lost and had a long way to go to get out of here. Still fighting close battles one right after another, time was getting short. I had to reach San d'Oria soon. After a good hour I found my way out and I gain another level in the process. Once of the best leveling times in the game for me, getting 72-100 experience per battle.

Now it was time to travel to San d'Oria...

      Part 2 - Trip to San d'Oria

The trip to San d'Oria was very cool. First I would have to travel back to Mhaura and take a ship to Selbina. Although, on my way to Mhaura I ran into 2 other TaruTarus wanting me to join them. Lawry (Level 32 Black Mage) and Nyaonyao (Level 16 Red Mage). They were searching for the quest items necessary to obtain the sub job. I came on very good timing. As one of the 3 items came from a Bogy which was very strong undead ghost like monster. They used level 2 elemental spells which could take around 100+ HP damage. Groups of 6 at level 17-18 have a hard time with it. He told us to stand back as he engaged in battle. At level 32 killing off 2 one at a time was hard for him, but he handled it. After, both Nyaonyao and I received the last item needed.

Saying our good byes we went our separate paths after thanking Lawry for his kind act. Now I had to catch the next boat to Selbina and continue on my way to San d'Oria. Waiting at the docks I fished for a little bit until the ship finally came. Never catching much because my fishing level is low.

Running aboard with a few other passengers we set off on our voyage. This only being my second time on a boat, I was still excited to be on it. I took a look around, watching the land become more distant as we move further into the sea. Turning my attention back on board I watch some of the stronger characters fight off the sea monsters. But then it happen again... The music changed.

A ship full of pirates was coming close to our boat. Everyone ran to the edge of the boat to see what was going on. Being the lowest level person there and remembering the warnings I received previously about level 25 groups having trouble with pirates, I stood back. But then unlike before, the pirates actually started coming aboard! Quite of few skeletons started attacking all the passengers. Seeing them take as much HP as half my life from them I knew I was about to die. I hear the others fend for their lives, but end up dying in a couple of hits. Knowing I couldn't help, I start to run below deck into the storage area. The wait there seemed like eternity. I heard the pirates looking all around the ship for any survivors. I stood still, expecting one to open the door and kill me. But then the music stopped and all was quiet. I slowly walk up to the deck again and when I open the doors I realize I was the only survivor...

Reaching Selbina finally I was happy to get off the ship. Now I was half way there. So rushed out of town and crossed the beach into the country of San d'Oria. Not battling much because the monsters were too weak I found more time to see the landscape. Very nice country, tress everywhere and very green. Noting a few area I wanted to come to I kept going reaching San d'Oria quickly. Not knowing then, but this was the country I was going to be staying at for a long time.

      Part 3 - San d'Oria

Of all 3 countries, San d'Oria was the most impressive. The castle was quite a site to see. This country to me seemed to be the trading capitol of the world. Always number 1 in the conquests and by far had the most people in it. People would be lined up near the auction house, selling their bazaar items or crowded up near the auction windows buying and selling. I walked around exploring everywhere much like I did in Windurst. This time however, I changed my job. I came here to meet Tartar, a new importer, so I thought I might as well start leveling up my soon to be sub job. After exploring the rest of the castle and searching the equipment shops, I set out to level up outside near the castle. As a level 1 White Mage.

Leveling up as a White Mage was fast. Not having to rest as much because of the Cure spell was very helpful. I stayed around the castle, but I gained first 5 levels there. They had similar monsters here that they had from Bastok. Although, it was nice to be in a new area. I ran around, joining people here and there or healing those in trouble. I saw quickly how much people liked having a White Mage around.

Seeing a monster being damaged with no one near I went to see what was happening. It was Ranger, he was using a bow to attack from afar. This was my first time actually seeing one battle. He took really good damage with his bow attack and he also used a sword for close combat. Not wanting to look like a stalker, I left after watching him fight 2 battles.

Going back to battling monsters, I explore a little around the area and end up gaining another level. Noticing some caves I would like to come back to later as a Black Mage. Then I get a message from Tartar! We're close to the same level so I run back to San d'Oria so that we can join together.

I was more then happy to have the company of another importer. Not knowing then, but we both end up joining a Link Shell called Remedy with about 30 other importers. Tartar was new to the game, as I was new to the area. So it was perfect, we set off to explore a little while ranking up. My need to explore caves is always high. So I asked where a good cave was and she lead us to it. Not going too deep into the cave because our levels were low, we fought a few Orcs. We were a pretty good team, her spells dealt a lot of damage as I healed and protected us. I was really starting to enjoy the role of a White Mage.

Going our separate ways, Tartar and I split up. I continue my search through the cave we were fight in earlier. But this time I go in deeper. The Orcs seem to have made their base here. The caves were a maze of tunnels that lead to other open areas where the Orcs have made their homes. Now being in the middle of their homes, there were Orcs everywhere.

Then all of sudden I'm struck in the back by an Orc. I turn around to engage battle with it, but then I notice another one coming. Then another one! There was no way I could defeat 3 at my level. I try to paralyze them, but it does no good. They constantly hit me over and over again until my defeat... Being transported back to my home point, I see Tartar! Laughing and saying hi again, I join her party with her 2 other friends. Our journey together was short however, as they had to leave a little while after. So I went my own way back to the cave. Frustrated that my travels through there were cut short the first time. This time however, I was a little more careful. I ended up going pretty far inside. Seeing some named monsters I knew I reached the limits of how far I could go at my current level. I made a note to come back here as a Black Mage later.

Now I wanted to level some more. My goal was level 11 with my White Mage. That way I would have Cure 2. I fought a little on my own and joined another in a party for a little bit. The experience was not the best. I wanted to find a different area to level up in. So I decided to try and find a larger party. Little did I know I was in for one of the best leveling up I have done and one the most challenging.

I met up with 3 Monks. They knew of a good area to fight a lot of Crabs. Crabs are excellent to fight, they never link (help each other in battle) and usually there are lot of them. We finally reach there after 5 or so minute run. The area was a pretty good sized lake with huge flowers growing all around it. The one thing we had to be careful of was the Water Element that appeared while it rained. Water Elements are very strong. Like the Bogy, they use level 2 Water spells and I have even seen groups of level 30s run from it. Then we start to battle. With them all being Monks it was very challenging. Their defense being low I constantly had to heal them or prevent the monster from attacking as much. I would also weaken the monsters defence and poisoned it. None of them had taunt, so we couldn't control who got attacked. Which made it even more difficult. But it was very fun.

Just before I reached level 12 the Monks had to leave. We bid our farewells and they thanked me greatly for fighting with them. I stayed there a little bit longer fighting some of the weaker monsters to gain my level. Now I was level 12 so I decided to change back into a Black Mage.

Now to get to level 18 for the sub job ability...

Part 4 - Levels of Eternity

First, I thought I might as well go back into the Orcish cave. As a Black Mage most of the Orcs I fought were easily defeated. Heading deeper into their home, I began fighting stronger ones. Obtaining pretty good money per kill I decided to stay here. There were quite a few things I had to buy and money was becoming harder and harder to get. After fighting for a little bit, I see Flip! He was from Link Shell Remedy and later got me into it. We joined forces fighting the Orcs. The experience was minimal so we decided to travel to an area of more difficulty. We had to be very careful only to battle one at a time. I would stay near the entrance, Flip would run up to one and hit it once. Then running back to me we would engage in battle. By doing this, we made sure none of the other Orcs would see us killing one of their own then attack us as well. We both would surely die fighting more then one. We fought there until Flip had to leave. So I left to find a good area to solo at.

Still at level 16, I needed to level up 2 more times to get the sub job ability. It seemed no matter where I went, the experience was too low or the monsters were too strong. So I just settled with the low experience and leveled up near the lake I was before as a White Mage. Hours later I finally gain a level. Only one more level to go! I wanted to find another party to join to try and speed things up. So I left the area.

I made it to Selbina which was an easy place to find a party to join. People from San d'oria, Bastok and even Windurst gather here as this was one of the high points in monster strength before reaching Juno. I join up with various groups fighting near the beach for the next few days trying to gain the last level. Seemed like eternity that I was fighting here. But all the people I met were great and I still see them today.

Once I notice that I am about to gain a level I start to travel towards Mhaura where I can finish my sub job quest. I gain my 18th level on the way, now all I had to was get to the village. Once I had my sub job ability I had to take the long journey back to San d'Oria to my mog house to set it up. Already having a White Mage job leveled up to 12, I would become a Black Mage 18, White Mage 9.

On my way there I was a little TarTaru Monk fighting a Battering Ram solo. It was a great site to see. The little TaruTaru hit the Battering Ram's nose over and over again with her fists until if fell to the ground. Laughing, I left heading towards San d'Oria again. Then finally reaching the city, I added a sub job.

Now it was time to level up to at least 20 and begin my journey to Juno. Or so was my plan, but a few unexpected things happen in between then.

Part 5 - Remedy and Death

With my sub job, I was now a Nuker/Healer. A great combination. I couldn't imagine being anything but a TaruTaru now. I had hundreds of MP and I still used it all during tough battles. I went back to Selbina and grouped up with a few parties there to fight near the beach. By far the best experience I could get so far. After getting thousands of experience Flip shows up with one of his fellow Link Shell members, Val. We couldn't all party up, as there would be too many people. So I just left my current party to join Flip and Val. We fought few battles before some more Remedy members showed up and wanted to join us. We ended up having 7 people in an alliance, all from Remedy. Not knowing then, but I end up losing all my experience I gained previously and even go back to level 17. Almost every attempt to battle a monster was a failure. Either the monsters would link and group up on us, or we would just end up fighting one that was far too difficult. Dying well over 6 times we figured it was time to stop. We all still had a great time though, I got the know the people in Remedy and it became my first day in the Link Shell. The game became much more fun now that I had company that could speak English.

All going our separate ways or logging off, I went to go join some other parties to gain back all the experience I lost. Although, I eventually found an area that I could get great experience fighting alone. Gaining my level back plus another one, I was only 1 more level away from 20. That was when I would start thinking about going to Juno. But now that I was a higher level the experience where I was fighting was too little. So I went back to Selbina to find another party to join. Once I got there I saw an old friend... Nyaonyao! We set off to the beach to level up. Obtaining excellent experience we stay here for a while until she has to leave. Just about to gain another level I fight a little more until it's gained. Level 20!

Now I needed to prepare for my journey to Juno. Although, on my back to San d'Oria I find someone near the level of my White Mage that needed some help. I change back to a White Mage/Black Mage. I found this a pretty good combination as well. My nuking was not as good as with a Black Mage, but my higher attack power made up for it. Plus I could heal very well. I end up gaining a level then I go back to the city to change back to a Black Mage. Ready to go to Juno, I make my way to Selbina. Then I see that a few from my Link Shell are there. I decided to join them and we battle around the beach trying to get the items necessary for them to get the sub job ability. The hardest item to get was from the Ghoul. They only appear at night and seem to rarely drop it. Never getting it, we give up. Later they do end up finding it though.

Before heading to Juno I also wanted to get a few new spells and some new armor. Which also meant a entirely new look for me! I looked more like a White Mage now with my new robes. One of the new spells I got was Drain. Pretty helpful, but it takes 51 MP. I usually gain about 40-50 HP from it which was about 3 hits worth from a monster. All set with equipment and spells now, I decided to journey with a couple of people towards Juno to see what the monsters would be like. I wasn't prepared for what I saw. Reaching there, all I got from my party was 'Be careful'. I was to act mostly as a Nuker because the other 2 were Red Mages and had Cure 2. In the distance I see a huge green plant with tentacles. I knew right away... A Malboro. It was gigantic and moved with a swiftness that was surprising. We all quickly engage in battle and I began casting my Fire and Ice spells while the others attack and heal themselves. It was very dangerous though, with my nuking taking more then their attack, the Malboro would usually come towards me. They had to constantly heal me as it was sometimes take more then 100 HP damage from me. Thinking I was going to die I kept fighting. But they wouldn't let me die and we eventually won. I thanked them and they now had my trust. We stayed around the area fighting monsters until they had to leave. Now with a glimpse of what was to come on my way to Juno, I changed my plans to gain a couple of levels first.

            Just a couple more levels...

              Part 6 - Juno

I went to solo again, fighting non-stop until I gained my levels. Here and there I could join Remedy members if they needed help or if I was bored fighting by myself. Finally gaining 2 more levels I was on level 22.

When I was finally prepared for my journey, Kwang and I left for Juno. Kwang reached Juno a few days previously so he was a perfect guide. He was also going to help me finish the Chocobo quest. Traveling to Juno was a long trip. 4 areas away from Selbina where we started. We had to sneak past the Malboros and almost every other monster there was. A few we could defeat, but not many. Seeing some broken down walls with a gate, I knew we were close. I ran up ahead and I saw Juno in the distance. An airship was planing in Juno as I ran towards the entrance. I was finally here!

Juno... Very impressive, and not just the city itself. This was where all the highest levels gathered. I explored Juno, going to every area, looking through all the shops. Juno was in the center of the world. Therefore, routes to every other city branched out from it. The air docks had a separate airship for each city. This making Juno the true trade capital of the world. The items sold and traded here were incredible. Still at a low level, most of it wasn't for me. But it was still exiting to see them all.

After seeing the whole city, it was time to get on with the Chocobo quest. However, it would take 4 in game days to finish it. (4 hours real time) But it was worth it, as I would have a quick ride back and I could then rent chocobos from anywhere. Then I noticed I didn't have everything I needed to complete the quest. Kwang was a great help though, he got on a chocobo and rode to San d'Oria and transferred the items to my mog house I rented in Juno. Then about 4 hours later I got on a chocobo and left Juno. Looking back, I knew I would be back here in no time leveling up. But for now, it was too difficult. So I rode away heading back to Selbina.

Once I get back to Selbina I make new plans to finish more missions in Bastok. It would be a long time since I been there... My hometown.
