  • Old-school FFXI journals.

Remember the days when we were all hurrying to read the latest installment of so-and-so's poorly written FFXI journal? I recall, way back when, going through page after page of some importer's journal, my eyes blank and glazed-over and my jaw hanging wide. At one point I had thousands of saved screenshots from entries that were just too good lose; I was sure they'd disappear if I didn't save them. While I can't really remember any of those specifically now, does anyone else have similar memories? Did you have any favortie adventurers, or were you one of the first to write about it?
Sure, many of us have got our current ones (advertisement: http://www.livejournal.com/users/ffxi_cengriffin), but the feel has changed so much over the years.

I'd love to hear about this from others' perspectives. It'd be great if anyone had old links to tales of adventure in Vana'diel with the original entries intact.

A shame all of the images for Twistid's are screwy because of AngelFire. Don't think I've read it, though, so I'll be sure to soon.

Russta's is consistantly awesome even now @.@. If not updated that often when there isn't new content- but that's because he seems to be the first person to explore said content!

          www.livejournal.com/users/russta I believe.

Yeah, I definitely remember reading many of those journals' entries, especially Jei's. I don't think I read a great deal of any of them when compared to what I remember of the more obscure and short-lived adventurers, though. For some reason the people I can't remember are the ones I remember most.

Edit in respose to Alucath: Yeah, I usually skim over Russta's stuff when I look through Linaaa's friends page. I remember him commenting on Twistid's journal (thanks for mentioning it, Xyphere) too, which is pretty old by now.

the game did feel different when I was new ^^ enough that gustaberg music can always make my eyes brim with tear. The old feelings have changed, but I still love this game nonethless.

I know what you mean, Jei. A while back when I had cancelled my content ID I saw a screenshot in one of my folders and it was Jazaar fighting a dragon; I knew that I just had to return. Thanks for helping bring me back!

From Russta's LJ, his very first entry:

                  http://www.livejournal.com/users/russta/2003/10/01/

You can go to the friend list, visit Mithrankittycat's LJ, peer at his friend list and then navigate from there. You'd be surprised at just how extensive the web will grow and just how much data can be acquired. To read all this would require many weeks, I'm sure.

Though I don't have a link, Guely's journal was my absolute favorite, followed by Xylia's.

Guelly, Jei, Starving Artist, and Maxim's journals were my favorites. I wanted to play so bad... arg. Clipper and fraps didn't work on the machine I started the game with though, couldn't make my own. By the time I reached high level thoug hthe game had eveolved into something far removed from what those journals showed, and what my own experiences where like at lower levels.

I don't remember if Nerv had a journal or not, but I remember seeing some of her pics and always thinking they were awesome. It was funny because my first day of playing FFXI I ended up on server Unicorn and ran into her in person! I got so excited! We sat down and chatted for a few minutes and she told me that it was nice to finally meet another person that could speak english. Anyways, I always liked Nerv's pictures. =D

                            I remember those days.. *nostalgic*
I LOVED Twisted's, it was cool. I remember him going to san'doria, and it was cool that he explained almost the whole day he had prior to ffxi haha.. Jei's journal was pretty badass too.. Guelly was pretty cool.. Xylia's was one of the first I read, I was like 11 and it was a godsend!

Good ol' days. I'm going to go read some of those now haha, thanks for the reminder.
