  • Entirely New Character?

I've looked through quite a few topics on the forums. I understand that it possible to edit models that are already there and textures and such, but has anyone actually modeled a character from scratch and imported it into final fantasy XI?

I work as a game artist, and i was curious about the posibilitiy of taking a character i had already made for example :

    and importing it.

This is a low res psp character with low res textures, and i get the impression the model might have to be segmented to fit in with the way finaly fantasy has different body parts.

If anyone has any experience and could help me out that would be great. Not sure what i could do, but i could offer to model or texture a character for them in return.

Anyway, looking forward to any suggestions.

    Cheers!

Saidly No it wont' work the ony Import Method is MQO, and no Adding/Deleting can be done from the orginal Export, When imported the vertex's becoem all screwed up if you do.

You would just have to build it form the ground up in VRS basicly.

VRS has some importing capabilities of it's own. Some reason everyone seems to forget or not realize they are there. Unfortunatly I have not messed with VRS's import extensively enough to give a definitive yes or no on if it'll get that model over for you. Most I've done with VRSs import has been simplistic stuff (Exporting motion files to a .mot, and making a motion database so I can better handle those).

It's worth a shot though of seeing if VRSs import abilities provides something that will get what you want done. Yeah, definatly the model will have to be split into about 5 pieces (Head & Neck, Body & Arms, Hands, Legs, Feet). Then also the other thing will be you'd have to move the meshes onto one of the 8 FFXI PC skeletons and fix the weighting and all there for it.
