  • Changing voice?

Kind of an odd question here...

I have noticed that the character's voice is attached to thier head .dat file. Is it possible to extract this voice out of the .dat file and replace it with the voice of another .dat file?

Oh. That. Well, if you figure out a way to change something so inconsequential, more power to you!

Singing voice too. I know some people really don't like the way their character sounds when singing, which I suppose is only important to a handful for rdm/brds, but still.

I don't think the singing voice is good for any race. :/ It's just...ugh.

That one mithra NPC, can't remember her name for the life of me(The one with the bow on her back) seems to have her own singing voice... and I don't think it's too bad.

If I could I might use it, also Elvaan females aren't THAT bad... but Mithras? Bah!

I've only really heard the taru m and hume f ones. Hume f is bleh, but I like my own.

                  Re: Changing voice?

Why I ask is, I'm kinda tired of my character's hair so I wanted to try something different. I found an edited elvaan female head that I like that is based on elvaan female 6-A (I wanted one based on 7-A, my character's default head), but 6-A's voice sounds so mannish when she fights and I can't stand to listen to it....so...yeah >.>

And Murphie, I'm sure most people on this forum, and possibly even yourself, care about editing their character and game files in anyway they see fit. To you the voice may not matter at all but to me it matters a great deal. Everyone is different

Oh, absolutely, everyone is different. It just hadn't really occured to me that that was an issue.

No program that I know of that does that, I do know it should be possible though. VRS has the functions for it but not the export ability to put it into the .dat.

I haven't taken the time to learn any of the DAT modifying tools yet, but, couldn't this be possible by using a DAT with the voice you like and copying the model from another DAT into it?

Should work, VRS basically is just doing the Hex Editing and Texture compression for you and stuffs it into the existing .dat file were it should go.

Just seriously I don't recommend doing that to much, no telling what other bugs that'll come up doing it. Reason is because your not just keeping the other dats sound info, you are keeping it's motions if any are in it as well as any other effects. Might end up needing to keep 1 polygon for VRS to keep the references to the sound too. Kind of a real hacksaw method.

I see, if the polygon is needed maybe you could position it inside the head so it isn't seen? Worth a shot though until someone who knows more than me about this comes up with an idea. (Most of you)

Been working on shreeding the .dat so I know how it's all composed. The NPC models are great for this since lot of seem to carry hints and clues how they .dats mechanics work. Also the NPCs appear to be the first made objects, just look at how they shreded the meshes and all. You can see in the NPCs they were used as test dummies for developing the skeletons and models.

I say that because you have player warn tunics that are only 1-3 meshes but on the NPC they are like 5-8 meshes for the same tunic. You know that the NPCs themselves also have their own death sounds? Some of them sound like very overdramatized death sounds and some could easily sound like something else a little more adult in nature.
