  • Area DAT Extractor...exists?!

    Okay the story --

So I'm asked to pull in Dynamis-Windurst [DRK/NIN] which is no big deal, I pull often and am pretty good at it, but I lost all my maps on the path so I went searching for the original site...didn't exist. Alright, well they're everywhere anyway, so I go to looking...and here's what I find.

[Note the Windurst map didn't illustrate it well enough, so here's one that does : ] http://www.detonationls.com/modules....view_photo.php

This gets me to thinking that the NA community has figured out how to pull the areas to be rendered, and I go to looking to no avail, but I come across this [google translated for ease] and by all rights this should, in fact, be just like ModelViewer...but for areas! [Yay!]

    http://translate.google.com/translat.../newspage.html
[That tipped me off, Area.lst? Hmmm.]

    Here's the program : EWHViewer2
    http://translate.google.com/translat...nloadpage.html

I'm looking for expertise here -- long have I rendered models from FFXI for use as signatures to wallpaper -- always missing the Vana'diel backdrop. I've been driven insane every time I start looking for a program that has finally broken through and figured out how to extract the models much like ModelViewer does, and now I see pictures of a top-down that is literally impossible to do in game. If it was self-modeled, then...whoa. If not...

    Any takers on this project?

(The original site of the above two links can be found : http://www.geocities.jp/bonetosale/
And the site that the maps come from can be found :

Many people have tired to make that thing work and some make it work, others dont. Only person I saw who had a working version was StarvingArtist on these forums. I myself would like to see this program work but I think the problem with it is that it works only for the JP version.

JP version and NA version are the same, with the very minor exception of text files.

Your right about that but the system registry is different on which version it is.

eh. reg editing isn't hard...it'll just lock you out of POL until you reset it

I have two installations, lemme tinker wit it

              Double Post Edited:
worked for me...try creating a fake japanese registry. And use teh second exe, no idea what's up with the first.

Fairly no brainer once you get the lists open. Although the controls are a pain in the ass...

Well, The thing is, Nothing Can Extract Area Dats. And it Likely will never happen (I seriously hope). Likely somone just spent alot of time making those maps. But I don't know. Or they just took an overhead view from one of the Map Viewers.

                  Re: Area DAT Extractor...exists?!

This program is basically a model viewer, for an area. unlike ffxitool, you can set your weather, and have a PC/NPC walk around it. I don't really recommend it, as the controls are a pain (at least, until someone figures them out)

Their lists are fairly well updated, I had Lion running around the Chocobo Circuit out of boredom earlier.

                      Re: Area DAT Extractor...exists?!

Possibly. I don't know, I didn't have any problems when I booted it up from Playonline/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XI/<Model>/<model>.exe

I do, however, have a copy of the jp registry entry setup to redirect, and I have two installations.

Honestly, my system is a mess, but it works for me. I don't really know what to tell you..

I do love the program in concept, but until I can find a more efficient way to navigate areas, I don't think i'll use it much.

Er, if you aren't really familiar with reg editing you shouldn't try it, but short and simple:

                          Copy PlayOnlineUS
                          Rename the Copy PlayOnline.
