  • adding extra weapons to your char

i havent done much dat editing in awhile now. when i used to do it before i had found a simple way to make my character appear with numerous weapons (great sword, great katana, sword, all at the same time), one on the back and one on each hip

problem is i cant remember how i did it. does anyone know? i know it wasnt a terribly complicated process and i LOVE having a GS on my character's back at the same time that she is fighting with other weapons

another question is this: can you make your character appear to be dual wielding without actually having 2 weapons equiped?

    thanks!

Wow. I've never heard about that. I'd like to know what you did.

It's quite simple... you just bind it to another piece of armor. It's how the quiver got made, anyway... only problem is, depending on what you bind it to (it can be anything, even another weapon), it will appear on everyone wearing that particular piece of armor/using that weapon.

This is done in VRS by adding an additional mesh to an existing model; If moving from one open model to the others, the texture is usually also moved automatically.

Just a note, you can't add weapons like you mentioned in the OP using Meta. It's much more user-friendly than VRS, but for the heavy-duty work, VRS is your only option.

Which makes it... not an option, when you think about it.

Re: adding extra weapons to your char

Bows are something of a unique situation. They turn invisible when not in use, forcing the need to attatch the quivers to something else that is always visible. Based on the disparity in terms of level spread on archer's knives, and the fact that warriors also on occasion use the ranger-beneficial axes such as Francesca and Kriegsbeil, it was determined that it was best to attatch them to ranger-dominant body pieces such as Noct, which is always paired with a ranged build, and RNG artifact body (Hunter's Jerkin, I believe) was the best choice for piece to pair it with.

Matching the fletchings to the bow in terms of design was both looked at and considered, however due to the aforementioned problem with bow models only being visible during a ranged attack, that plan was scrapped.

you are right, i didnt manage to get the GS working correctly yet

i got it onto my char's body armor, but its using the same texture as the armor instead of the weapon's texture, also it animates incorrectly when the character moves

perhaps answering this may help me remember how i added the GS before: how would i make a great katana draw and wield like a normal sword without using VRS?

ok back onto VRS, if i get rid of the skeleton/animation stuff for the great sword and manually position the sword on the back of the armor would it stay in place or does it still need skeleton/animation?

any idea how to fix the texture for the sword so that it retains the sword texture instead of adopting the armor texture?

i hadnt used meta before so my previous post was refering to the fun stuff i've been doing with that in the past few hours ^^ (giving my char longer hair, modifying swords, etc)

oh, forgot to mention, the GS is textured correctly in modelviewer, but it is not textured correctly in game. i'm not sure if thats just something i did wrong or what

                    Not possible.

ok back onto VRS, if i get rid of the skeleton/animation stuff for the great sword and manually position the sword on the back of the armor would it stay in place or does it still need skeleton/animation?
All that you need to do is set the skeletal weight to be the same as a point in the center of the back, between the shoulderblades. Using VRS, of course.

any idea how to fix the texture for the sword so that it retains the sword texture instead of adopting the armor texture?
Using VRS, transfer the texture file (It's the yellow box) over to the new model. Then, adjust the texture box under the mesh box (It will be a purple box under a yellow box) to point to the correct image. Make sure the names on the labels match up, however.

                    mmhmm.

Hm, don't know what to tell you about that, doing it with VRS has never given me a problem.

i get that problem too, the only way ive found around it is to attach your accessories to your real weapon dat file, seems to work fine then (though if you enequiuup the weapon then all the other stuff for show will come off too)
