It really depends on your skill, to me it seems, anyway.

Converting you have to mess with the skeleton weights, yes, but making it from scratch on the skeleton requires just as much time and probably a lot more brain power. Which you're more comfortable with, I assume.

Depends on the shape, really. The boots and body use a model unique to Hume F and thus can't be done as a reskin. The gloves and pants were easy for the opposite reason; They were easily modified from existing models.

How's the progress on the body piece? I assume the boots are giving you a bit of trouble as well.

On a side note, during a recent project, VRS hated me to the point where it refused to export the model if I added a single vertex. Had to try a different approach, and thank god it worked. Usually VRS doesn't object to adding vertices and edges. It just decided that that particular model was awful and refused to export it. Its okay, though. In the end it turned out better the second time.

I really need to start experimenting with race porting after this project is finished.

Most export problems relate to assigning overlapping textures or skeletal weights. To be honest, I've been too busy with class and such to work on even the boots much... the boots are honestly quite bizzare, the legs and feet are cross-linked or some such incident. Probably a result of a rough transfer, but it's workable.
