  • A question about xbox version of files.

I would like to make a sig of my character. I heard that to do it you need a certain model viewer and the pc version of the game (so you can get into the files).

What I was wondering was if anybody tried reading the xbox disk on a computer. Of course not to play the game but just to see if the model files where readable.

Its possible and likely they are the same and in same structure. if we was provided with some samples we can see if they are the same. File Structure should be like FFXI/Rom/Lots of folder 1-160

And here should also be a ROM2/ROM3/ROM4

    files should be named.dat

But if you can provide us with a sample, and we will see ^^

Re: A question about xbox version of files.

I'll check this weekend. (I hate being able to play only on Saturdays and Sundays and Friday if I'm luckey. )

Hope it works. I'm sorta worried about the Disc format.

I never had problems reading Psx and PS2 discs but I haven't tried with the 360 yet.

Well, its got to install stuff on the hardrive somewhere. Which is what you will need to acess. The disk files wont' fully help exactly. Well the woudl work, But it has to install stuff somewhere, on the HD, because it has to update. So its 1 of 2 things. Everything is store don the HDD, or it uses a override method(if any files exist on HDD ot overrides any file loaded from the disK).

I don't own an Xbox, but I have heard about the HDD's beign opened on the 360's.

:/ Don't need to trouble like that. Just get someone who got in on PC to screenshot a model for you. Can ask for it on this forum for example.

If the Xbox's HDD is anything like the PS2's, you can hook it up to a PC with ease...

Of course, I've yet to try because it will probably have to be formatted to even access the files. Unless I used a GetDataBackProgram, and that takes forever. I wouldn't imagine the consoles' files would be that much different though. =/

He didn't say the Xbox HDD and reading what's installed on it. He's thinking the installation disks, he's curious if anyone tried cracking it's cab files or whatever the data is packed in to see if you can pull out the needed files to use the model viewer.

or maybe pull the files off the disc and use the .dats for the PC version? Arent they supposed to be higher resolution textures? would that work? if so we could replace all the PC FFXI textures with the 360 textures making the game look a lot better.

No, no. They are not higher resolution just the settings for Draw Distance is higher. All that means is objects on the landscape show up at further distances then you'll get from the other systems. Nothing huge, biggest benefit is certain areas with a huge mountain doesn't suddenly pop up out of nowhere on you.

Draw Distance is actually something you can tweak on the PC, part of the regedit settings.

aw well, no biggie then. I just keep hearing xbox graphics are SOOOooo~ much better than PC's FFXI graphics, blah blah ...never actually seen it first hand so .. wasnt sure. If they arent then meh, no worries then.

Well you have to consider what PC the person is reffering it to. If the PC's stats are close to the Minimum Requirements then it will be better (Since Minimum Requirements is minimal graphic quality in PC).

Otherwise if the PC is a well built game PC with some of graphic cards out and a little regediting the PC can match or surpass the XBox 360 graphics. Then all you need is a monitor of good size and wide screen and it'll look great.

yeah... thats the biggest thing I hate about PCs ... most PC games dont perform the same in general.... theres so many things to factor in, that its hard to just say X game looks better on this, or X game runs smoother with this, etc...like how a lot of PCs Ive seen have WAY over the recommended specs, yet cant run FFXI worth a crap ...makes you wonder....although I think thats mostly because FFXI was built for consoles rather than PC in mind.... its sad that I can play oblivion with NO issues, and all the settings on max ...yet FFXi chugs along a lot of the time ....well... untill I got a few programs to run it smoother... they should make PC only servers and PS2 only servers, and 360 only servers ... not split them ..but ADD them .. then ppl can have their game run at optimum speed etc if they choose... or stay with mixed platforms.

It has to do with the MMO's are programed the tend to use more ram than processing/video power alot of times.

And well, I know he said disk. But there's no point to seeing if the disk model's are readable. Because you couldn't put modded ones back on there or whatever. But there has to be some type of fyle system storage on the HDD. Which is why I was talking about it.
