  • Simple model-merge request

Hi, I wanted to see if someone could merge two body models for me, i'm not experienced with the 3d program (whatever it might be) that you guys use for editing FFXI models, though if you can point me in the right direction, i'll try it.

Though if someone can do what I need, i'd much appreciate it. I wanted the torso of the BLU AF, with the sleeves of any Gi, or robe, like the Kenpogi. Any help is greatly appreciated, and don't worry about the textures, i'll work on that.

still trying to figure out armor merging myself otherwise I'd do it... for some reason noone ever takes these model merging requests...or at least none of mine anyways...its like VRS is some evil plague lol... everytime I ask for a tutorial or help with VRS ...all's quiet XD ....Anyways goodluck in finding someone for it, and...if I figure it out I'll try it, but odds are it may be a while...everytime I try the models blob together lol

I just wish someone could tell me how to do it, or rather, where to download the programs, i'll give them a go.

I think the hard part with merging models is the texture sets, as you'd have to merge them as well which means you probably have to map the texture to the model again - which to me at least, doesn't sound like fun.

I hate 3D modelling/texturing as much as I hate programming.... With a passion.

Combining the models can also result in a pretty ugly mass, but with meta, alpha-mapping and what not, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Try VRS. I can't remember the site off the top of my head, but if you search the forums for it, you'll find it.

The ugly mess comes from not manually repositioning the newly imported armor. If you select the new armor and opent he Coordinate Window you can move it just 1 spot on the Y axis and solve your moosh problems.

As far as combining Textures, it doesnt AHVE to be done necessarily. Both models after combination can pull from one Texture, you just have to fix the UV Mapping. And, you can even map the new armor to the old texture in VRS before import with generic UV Coordinates.

That's the thing, I don't know how to properly map the UV texture in metasequoia, and everyone in this damn forum keeps saying to look at the stickies, but even THEY haven't looked at them or they'd obviously know there's nothing about mapping textures in metasequoia. I swear, if I hear one more word about stickies.

Takes about 5 minutes if done in VRS, and the texture moving is handled automatically if done correctly.

Also, instead of texture mapping, think of it as UV mapping. You'll probably get further that way. Using search, anyway.

By ugly mess I meant the textures are overlapping each other everywhere it's a bit hard to figure where one armor starts and the other ends.

I never messed with UV mapping. I did all my re-coloring and texturing in Photoshop on each seperate .dds files.

I'll have to look up UV mapping.

                      Re: Simple model-merge request

Yeah i'd much rather just re-texture something, but when you alter the models so much that you end up having to delete actual polygons, you end up with solid blocks of stretched texture that don't know what they're doing. So that's where my problem comes.

I just also ran into another problem, I edited a model in metasequoia, saved, then imported into the model viewer, the polygons go crazy and shoot out on the X and Y axis till infinity. There must be another step I have to do before importing into model viewer.

God dammit.. why couldn't there be a way to export into maya? Then I wouldn't be limited.

Maybe I should just stick to texturing.

Does this VRS Program let you add those shader effects onto your mods? I.E. the Haubergeon shoulder pads showing reflected light when you turn in certain angles in-game. Also noticed something very neat on the new puppet head pieces.

Try going to the Family Tree Window and only selecting the New Model. Then, goto View>Coordinate and set the "Y" Coordinate to "1" and hit enter. this will spread your Models apart instead of placing them on the same default axis point. Or just wait for my VRS toot to be done.
