  • Ready to progress, I need help.

I'm embrassed to ask, this seems like something I should be able to easily figure out... but I do best when I have explict instuction, haha.

I've only just started to delve into the realm of .DAT modification, simply working with plain textures at the moment. I've become adept at easy recolors and such, but I wanted to do something and had a problem.

I wanted to make a mask for my Elvaan F character, but there was some obvious problems that I dont know how to go about doing. What I had planned looked like a leather bandana that wrapped around the mouth (Sort of a speak no evil thing, just because I think a mute MNK woman would be neat. I planned on also making a sash for her eyes later, to give a mysterous Martial artists vibe.) But the obvious problem was, that it simply just applied right to the texture of her skin.

I'm ready to start using more advanced tools I think, what steps should I take to do this?

Will I need to start working with actual modeling tools?

Yup, unless you like the mouth cover and blindfold to look like tattoos, you'll need to get some model editing tools.

Well, I downloaded Metasequoia, but I'm not entirely sure about how I was gonna do this. I thought about trying to simply the face and remove the mouth, but that obviously didnt work. I'm not sure what to do, or what the rules are to this, but I'm gonna keep trying T__T

You can skim over my gunblade tutorial just to see how to import models and use the tools.

From what I understand, you probably just want to take a ribbon or headband and move it over the eyes or the mouth. It's all pretty much guesswork followed by alot of trial and error until you get the position right.

Thanks Deo, your tutorial was a massive help to me. It turned out relatively well, I'm satisfied.

But I have 2 more questions.
          1) Is it possible to make this headgear part of the elvaan F head I use? So its on all the time and I could wear other hats and stuff? Basically, can I combine 2 things into one?
          2) I want to make my Moogle look like my boyfreind's Taru. I suppose this is a similar question, but could you pick out gear for a player character and then combine it all into one .dat to be used as a moogle?

Yes, you can combine models, but you need VRS for that.

Hmm, I would've posted you a link but... it's not loading for me.
