That way when ppl get noobish, they'll have a source to look at rather than see you as someone who writes a journal and posts their ID for all to see.

Get some cred for your work rather than ppl seeing you as some kind of self appointed noob basher.

Then, not more than a month, someone starts a new thread asking how it's done.

I may be nice sometimes, but the times that I'm rude are for a reason. It pisses me off and maybe one day I'll get the point across. If you spent YOUR time figuring out a way to help people, only to be looked blindly at, you might be peaved, too. Or, you could just be so bored that you'll hinder further progress by answering the saem questions repeatedly.

I have not been here a month to see it when you origionally posted. And i did look through pages, i looked all the way up to page 12, i guess i missed your post because i was just skimming through titles

Second of all, you can clearly see that i have made every effort to help and explain things to people that i can. Look at my posts. I don't even know that much but i dont take a smug holier than thou atitude and start screaming about it, i just explain it quickly and briefly as possible while still making it as understandable as possible. I don't know, maybe you just need a hug and a pat on the back. Questions will be asked, if you arent willing to answer them then dont. its really quite that simple. You don't have to bash people because they ask something that is already on the site, you can easily point them in the right direction in 1 single line instead of typing a huge novel talkin about how nobody makes an effort to look for stuff, and all that.

When i posted this thread i was in a hurry but i wanted to be able to come home and hope someone was kind enough to point me in the right direction, which you did, in a not so friendly way but helpful none the less.

Edit: i havent seen anyone except you treat people who ask questions this badly... i'm honestly shocked and apauled by the way in which you talk to people, like lostcross i think his name was.... I dont know you, and i dont know why you are so bitter most of the time, but continually insulting people for asking questions will NOT most certainly NOT stop them from being asked. I am willing to bet that when you started ffxi you asked questions that were in the book, and probably even when you got into the dat editing stuff. Everyone does at one point in time. And you should honor those people that probably helped you out by helping out others, peacefully.

I've done several tutorials Deo. Don't feel like linking to all of them. I don't ask for credit to my work, otherwise I would post more of the .dats that I did. I'm just trying to help the modding community progress and evolve.

Come one now. I know how to check join dates. And if you're looking for something as specific as changing menu backgrounds how can you miss a LONG titled post containing those words. I veen placed a pissy-face smily next to it so it stood out.

I don't mind question's being asked. I answer question's when it's about a vague, under-described topic and I know the answer. When it's something I KNOW has been answered numerous times or there is a sticky about it, that's when I get rude.

As far as the questions I asked back in my newb days, I'll tell you this. I took a personal interest in wanting to learn how to .dat. I read/skimmed EVERY single post on this forum, to include stickies, and utilized the search function. I taught myself from the knowledge that was already present. From the stickies I learned about Foyle's Site and went from there. Because I know it can be done by someone with limited computer experience is the reason I get pissed when someone else doesn't utilize the references already layed out ahead of time.

I'm not asking for question's to be stopped being asked. That's one way that people learn. However, if you went to the same class and everyday someone asked the same question that was answered previously when the answer could be found in your textbooks, it would be counter-productive to the teaching process. This is what I'm trying to deter. Why should JP people have figured out how to mod motion before us? Why do they keep their files locked? Probably exactly for those reasons. To counter digression.

As far as treating people like fecal matter, I still believe it's my perogative. If someone's feelings are so hurt by words I type, then some thicker skin needs to be grown.

Well we have something in common then. I taught myself how to use model viewer, gc3, and metasqioa but i didnt use the forums or anything. I started to read the gun blade tutorial on how to use meta but it was too confusing to me so i clicked stuff til i figured it out.

And as for the missing your post thing... i obviously was searching for something titled like "window backgrounds" like i clearly said in the first post lol. I just got on my husbands computer and searched these forums for those words and it didnt come up with your post either. Maybe you can edit it so it says chatlog window background or something for future newbs like myself. After all, the game refers to the as windows so thats naturally what people would search for.

Just tryin to help ya out, believe me, i understand how being asked the same thing is annoying. I have 2 children who are that age and they ask questions like theres no tommarow, even when the answer is aparent to me, its not always so obvious to them.

yes... that happens... among other things that children ask when they begin to explore the world through their own eyes. It's the same concept, the new people to the dat editing community come in blind.
