  • High Def Models

I worked all night regaining my old memory of 3D Studio Max and figured alot of the stuff out by myself. These models and textures are imported straight from the game and edited by me to make them actually look somewhat of a better reality.

    We'll start with Ifrit.

"This was the 3rd model i did and i thought to myself, what if i got the model in and imported the textures in a seperate manual way to create bump mappings within 3D Studio Max so i'd be able to get better grip of the materials myself. For sure it worked and i was able to edit the textures of the models with a much more higher standerd than before. Although, this is alot harder and more complex with different models, such as the dragons and the Archduke in his battle form. I probably could of done better with Ifrit's bump mapping but all of this was in a range of about 4 - 5 hours work, and i just started regaining memory with 3DS."

    Orc:

"The bump mapping was a little wierder on orcs, but i am still learning material wise. In my thoughts, Orcs should look more wetter or slimier."

    Crab:

"Working with the crab was really cool, alot of bump mapping to show in the first 2 images and the last 2 are with high def lighting that took a little more time to render. This was a pretty easy model."

    Postan/Brenner Ball:

"Easy enough as it look, i put more modification into this one. If you look at the original postan from the game and then this one, you'll see quite a difference. The extra glowing i put in from the red light is a bit exxadurating and i was actually a mistake, but i didn't have time to fix it. If you'll notice, it's way too much glow on the wooden floor."

    PC's:

"I still have yet to seperate the materials and try it on PC characters. The lighting is fine but the character itself needs some work. I'll try to work with it more later on."

Sweet jesus. It all looks amazing (with the exception of what Intesnity said). Expect it to look like this on the 360 version. /drool

Nah, 360 version models will looke exactly like PC except a slightly longer draw distance than PC users get @ full supported rez.

Really? damn, I was hoping the graphics would improve a bit. However, I do believe SE will allow a higher framerate than before.

            Damn, just pics...

I thought that since they were in the Mod section, you made playable Model in .dat form.

Damn you for getting my hopes up like that >.>

It's really cool, amazing, in fact- your models are absolutely gorgeous.
But the thing is, countless amounts of people have done the same thing before, and what's the point if you can't use them ingame?

Also, on a side note, PC FFXI can be made to look better than Xbox 360, along with draw distance... windower allows you to change it. =D

Yeah, I just meant as far as the actual software. There's plenty of reg edits and what-not you can do to boost performance on the PC. But concerning the 360 having anything above and beyond a better draw distance like higher rez textures and what-not, that won't be the case.

If you're willing to bend the rules per se, @ no time will a console outperform a PC in any regard.

That's all relative, XBox 360 current processor allows it the potential to outperform the current top of line PCs out. Of course this won't last long, but in relativity to it a console was outperforming even if short lived.

Nice High Definition creations, maybe if FFXI carries over to the PS3 and the PS2 gets dropped from support we might start to see models go in this direction?? Or if PS2 ends up getting dropped period (Suck though if FFXI doesn't carry over to PS3).

                    Re: High Def Models

I play xbox vers beta and there are many issues that need fixing to even be able to compete with older PC's performance on this game

                    1. Changing macro pallets causes lag (for example the game hangs for a second) (similar to ps2 version)
                    2. opening /map lags as well
                    3. STILL laggy in towns =(
                    4. grass and trees "pop up" in the distance

I run a 1.5 ghz P4 with 512 mb ram btw and other than a lower framerate average, My game never hangs, maybe it has to do with low video ram on 360?

                      Re: High Def Models

I run a 3000+ Athlon XP, Radeon 9550 w/ 256mb, 1 gig dual channel ram, 180gig hard drive. 360 may have more processing power, but I highly doubt any game will be coded to truly show off that firepower before my next upgrade to still better equipment.

                        As far as I seen...
                        Xbox360 performs about same a s a AMD 3700+
a AMD 4800 outperforms the Xbox360 greatly (on ffxi)

not to mention that we're running FFXI at almost twice the resolution that that paperweight is running it at... >>; (even that crappy HDTV) -^^-

as for the topic of the thread-- ^^ nice models, can you import the area .dat files in the same manor? a fly thru a HQ Newton would be quite impressive in your portfolio, i'm sure

                            More Renders

I think i did quite well on the Admantoise, although, maybe minus a bit on the landscape since i'm not very good with scaping that much. Also did a few other models such as Tonberry and a custom texture i did with Omega.

On the side note to importing these, it would be very diffacult and somewhat impossible due to UV Shading and right lighting. Not to mention alot of the high def is in with the lighting i made and bump mapping, and FFXI has both it's own effects in that catagory that would have to be changed from inside the game, not just the models. These took some effort, hope you enjoy them. ^^

                              Re: High Def Models

I have attempted modeling characters in 3DS before, but I haven't been able to get the alpha mapping (and thus transparency) to work properly; Things either turn translucent (partial transparency, such as the Qudav above), or it just appears opaque and the models end up looking totally off, such as certain overlays on armor (like the detail on the Adaman breastplate, or the side knee guards on PLD AF breeches) appear as solid chunks. Have you found a way around this?
