This took a LOT of poking around xoops and quite a bit of research - the Japanese are annoyingly evasive about their techniques sometimes, but they're really skilled. As a result, now I have a major headache - but I'm going to start an ambitious project to show the power of this technique first.
(long story)
-As you dat modders probably know, xoops has recently discovered how to import NPC textures into PC files. I've found the technique they used and recreated a model someone posted on the page (the tonberry king's crown which someone did for hume female) - only for hume male instead. For something this small, it certainly took a ridiculously long time to get correct (the animation issues alone stumped me for a really long time - VRS will misread parts and you'll end up with a floating crown that thinks it's part of your waist or something.)
What does this mean in plain English? Well... take a look at the "Cornelia" Mithra mod thread:
http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/dat...--.mithra.html
Basically, the thread author had to use a preexisting model - probably a Houppelande, and paste Cornelia's texture file on top of it. With this method it *might* actually be possible to extract the mesh file itself, although bones will not be imported. (Sorry, no swooshy capes) This really increases the number of resource meshes we can play with - I could retexture the entire crown if I wanted (and I've already modified the shape so that it looks decent on your head).
I'm fairly certain I'm not the first English speaker to discover this, but at least I'm fairly certain I'll be the first to bother to write up an English tutorial on it unless some experienced modder beats me to the punch (go ahead, please save me the trouble!).
And yep, it animates perfectly.
Edit: Corrected a minor error with the crown, got overexcited.
