Yes, we don't have access to it yet, but I'm sure the puppet (and master) will prove for some interesting .dat mods. What kinds of mods do you think people will try to make or be interested in?

    Heartless from KH
    Cornellia from Shadow Hearts: Covenant
    Pinocchio
Tarus (or any race I suppose)

This isn't exactly about the mods, but I wouldn't be surprised if Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars made an appearance as a doll. After all, Square-Enix should still own rights to the character.

Forgot about Geno ^_^ Yeah, that would be interesting to see as well, either official or fan-made.

        Re: Puppetmaster Mods

Why must anything desirable be blatantly derivative? Is originality that unpopular these days?

Oh wait, asked a stupid question. Silly me.
I believe most sigs are like the people they represent - useless, loud and obnoxious.

Yeah, but according to the Emo Punk Handbook, "How to not be like everyone else because then you're a poser", it states that memories should be discarded to make room for a higher vocabulary of words often retired from the English Dictionary.

Why have fun remembering stuff when you can make a piss poor attempt at shooting people down with words you Copy and Paste from http://thesaurus.reference.com?

Life is too easy to live if you're having fun like everyone else. Try moping and looking down on the world for a change because your past was substandard, then you'll see.

I'm betting you'll see puppet-nins from Naruto and those things from Zatch Bell.

                    Re: Puppetmaster Mods

                    >PotentPotables.
Oh dear - a flame provoking response. I apologize, did I get on your nerves? >_<

I'm afraid that I don't need a thesaurus to insult people. I alway write like this (check my post history!), think of it as an alternative vocabulary since I don't use the same words that the typical North American does (Since I'm not American! Surprise! - I call a cookie a biscuit!). Seriously though - I highly doubt the fact that you needed a thesaurus to check the meaning of any of the words I used in my previous post. Exaggerate much? =P

Getting to the point: Lighten up, it wasn't an insult so much as a valid query to further linsight into human nature - you viewed it with malice, and yes, I probably shouldn't insert an opinion via the use of sarcasm. Mea culpa, (that's Latin for something along the lines of "My fault"!) I'm sorry. But can you say without a doubt it isn't a valid question? Please think about it. Here: I'll break down what I was really getting at for you.

If you take a look at mmo xoops, you'll notice that the majority of mods listed on that site (from the japanese site of things) don't emulate any vogue characters. The first few examples listed were all canon characters from some franchise or other - but obviously, I don't predict the Japanese trends to change at all.

So what did I really mean?

Firstly: The OP asked a good question. It stimulated thought and made me think about what would likely happen.

Secondly: I can safely make the prediction that puppetmaster puppets (from the Japanese scene) will either be
-semi-original fetish material (Sailor seifuku, nurse outfit etcetera)
-ignored to the same extent that they ignore dragoon wyverns at the moment.

Or to put it in plain English: Think outside the box for once! I guess it could kind of be hard to extrapolate my entire point from one probing question though.

Once again - I'm sorry if the post came off as condescending. I guess it could very well be interpreted in a hostile manner. Most people are intimidated when they see words you normally only EVER see in a newspaper appear on a forum post (Well, to my credit, I have never used the word 'fracas' or 'hijinks' in a forum post, so there!). Yes, it's weird, but honestly, if you want to find people that are worse than me, go to your local university and talk to any English major... those people are frightening.

                    Forgive me? ^_^

Edit: Actually I'd like to ask you a further question: How would you say "blatantly derivative" in common English? Keep it short. "Obviously... copied?". Not quite the same, is it?

                      Re: Puppetmaster Mods

                      You forget one thing, though.

When the modding starts, it ALWAYS starts with known characters from the majority of people. It stems from known objects that evolve with artistic license into the kind of mods you see posted on JP forums, and more recently, here at home in the .dat modding forum.

Don't think for a moment that Xoop never hosted Cloud, Sephiroth, or other Anime related mods. You're seeing the after effects of years of work, not the current mindset.

Art imitates life. Life doesn't start out boring, hence changes don't need to be made. When people get tired of using Organ Grinding Monkey mods and Garbage Pail Kid mods, then you'll see your grandiose [that's Grand] mods for puppets.

                        >Potables

I have seen blatantly derivative work on Xoops but it's in the minority. I'd like to contest the your view that that "People start out with derivative work" though. Looking through the history of the modding channel on 2chan, it seems that most work on the Japanese side started out with schoolgirl/maid dresses and naked morphs.

The derivative work occasionally does surface, but it seems to revolve around canon FFXI characters. (Nanaa mihgo, as an example) - There's a lot of modding done just to enable people to appear like so-and-so NPC. (Although said person is rarely from outside FFXI) I wasn't thinking about these mods when I wrote the above post, so I guess derivative work is far more widespread than I had thought.

Note though: You're implying the American community is "new" and "inexperienced" to modding. I'd like to say that this isn't always true - There are quite a few people with experience from previous games (half life, the sims) - and I have seen very impressive work from Americans. This has not changed the fact that every other mod is "Cloud/ emocharacter" and my instinctive response is "boring, won't look as good as the original". And I sincerely doubt that people will "move on" - there's nothing to move on to, just a change of preference.

To illustrate my point - when I see someone called "Cloud", "Legolas", "Tidus" or "Sephiroth" in FFXI, I know he's American and very probably not Japanese. (Although to be perfectly fair, if I see someone called "Aznable" or "Chobits" - from less mainstream influences, it's probably Japanese). My biggest mistake is that I'm overly judgmental and I associate these players with the makers of the mods (since every single "Legolas" name-variant player I've encountered has been TERRIBLE).

P.S.: XD Hahaha, I don't need a dictionary for 'Grandiose'. Appreciate the sniping remark. It really made me laugh out loud. Thanks for replying in a civil manner instead of starting a flamewar... kind of hate that when it happens.

Edit: You know, I really wouldn't mind if the American modding community would give a little more attention to the less popular characters. I'd really love to see someone make a FF7 Cid mod or a Yuffie mod someday.
