  • Gilgamesh Outfit

Well, had to celebrate my 3 year aniversary somehow >,>. Once again, don't read intro if you don't like to read long things or don't have any time. Just go to the pictures section. Intro not interesting at all hehe.

    Intro
Are you modder? Do you consider yourself a god hehe? I have to ask you, whats the most annoying yet toughest thing to do?

That my friend is taking NPC outfits/head models and placing it on your PC. Why is that tough? Its because of skeletal rigging my friend. No, you can't just open up the npc in meta and try to copy over the parts you want.

Anyways, to get on to the point, if you want to know where I am weak at in modding, it is this. Doing this takes a lot of skill, time, and it can make you very frustrated. If you can sucessfully do this in a short manner of time, then in my eyes, you can do anything when it comes to modding FFXI.

I have always been weak in this area ever since I started a long time ago when modding was kinda only known by the jp. I just didn't have any skill at it. Sure, I can make my own things, but when it comes to skeletal rigging of a NPC's outfit on my PC, I always failed.

So, to get on to the point of the topic. I was looking to take a dab at trying this yet again because the challenge in modding is.....err was becoming bleak for me again. So after looking at various NPC models, I chose Gilgamesh's Outfit.

    Was it a challenge?
Yeah. I wasn't planning to mod at all today so this was unexpected.

It took me about a total of 9 hours to get it like it is now. Obviously, I had breaks in between. A say about after a good 4 or so hours, I was very frustrated because this looked like a disaster. If you've done skeletal rigging (You could say weight, but I call it rigging), you know what I'm talking about. But for those that don't know, its a absolute pain.

A beginner could not do this and shouldn't even think twice about starting off with trying to put a npc model on their character as the first thing they do in VRS. You will get frustated and quit. You also need to know how the armor moves or flows. So you could set everything to 1.000000 and when you look at it modelviewer, you will see that you can't do that . The only thing that would appear right most likely is the body itself if you set the skeletal values to the right one. I on the other hand, don't call it quits until its just damn near impossible to finish so I stuck with this one till the very end.

Anyways, I was in a pissy mood until I fixed my problems somehow. If this major problem wasn't fixed, I'd be showing you some really ugly shots xD. I can tell you that everything except the upper body is working like it should. I guess that 9 hours was worth it, I dunno. I stopped because I was at the point where I can show this to the public and the fact I cannot think at all anymore. I basically got 4085408540 skeleton #s and a bunch of random values stuck in my head.

    Status
    Skeletal Rigging (aka weight)
    Upper body : 75%
Lower body : 100% (yeah, wow lol)
    Arms : 50% (Will explain)

    Animations
Emotes : About 85% look correct
Common : About 75% look correct
Battle : About 90% look correct
    Fishing/Choco : Never tried
WS animations : The whole body doesn't animate itself like its supposed to. This is a modelviewer issue. In game, everything will be fluid and smooth so 100%

    The Pictures
Well my shots show the good and the bad of how I'm progressing. Currently, the left arm is out of place and I don't know how it got like that. Atfirst, the right side was screwy and I fixed that and now the left side is screwy -.-. You will see what I mean in the last shot with Gilgamesh in it. Despite what you see in the other shots, the left arm has yet to be rigged correctly.

I DID NOT do a 1:1 port of everything GM had. When I had to go and do skeletal rigging on his legs, I said **** it, we are going to go and use something already made for the PC. I said the same thing about the Feet and Gloves. Do you know you have to change every little point on the fingers in order for everything to work right ?! Forget that, so I'm doing my own thing. Its not done yet though. I am planning to add in some more cool things to this outfit.

Why do the boots textures look messed up? Don't you know? Well no **** sherlock, after about 8 or so hours of doing the rigging, I pratically had no energy or brainpower whatsoever to create the textures for the boots that I wanted. Infact, I rushed the textures, happy now hehe? It will be fixed in due time, but as of right now, I really could care less. As long as that outfit is done, its golden baby. Could care less what you think hehe.

I spent a aweful lot of time on the lower body so everything flows correctly just like in my Sephiroth mod. That was my main priority. Only the left side in the front needs to be modified some so it doesn't show the legs. You will see what I mean in the shots. Also, I'm talking about from her left and not yours xD.

Anyways, on to the shots. This is the ladies version of Gilgamesh's armor .

Wow, looks like I gotta fix that sometime. Do you know what I'm talking about?

    More shots

Last one that shows you that my left arm is truly off xD. I don't llike showing the bad side of my work.

    Conclusion
For the most part, its done. About another 2 hours trying to decipher the rigging problem in the upper body and I can say that this is my first npc outfit to pc mod woot. Once everything is done and finalized, I plan to update the textures and then make a black version of this b/c I like dark colors .

Hmm, this is something I have always wanted for years so I'm proud of myself I guess. I feel like a true samurai or something along those lines xD. Thats why I kept on going and going even with all the problems. I don't think there are that many more challenges left for me besides this.

I am NEVER going to do another NPC outfit / Head model > PC conversion. Its downright time consuming, a pain in the ***, and most of all.......too much thinking -.-. I rather go and code some huge app or game than do this -.-.

So if you want Lion's head model or something else, this is not the modder to look at. I personally spent time in the past and recent working with npc head models and its a disaster area. I had everything set up just right yet it still messed up.

    Release?
When I first started working on it and was making decent progress, I was going to give out a beta of it, but after that big problem that cropped up on me (Umm, I can't explain it), I wasn't. After I fixed the big problem and things were looking a hell of a lot better, I was going to give out beta of this, but I decided since every one and their mom who is a HF would complain about the wierd looks in the upper body at times. So what the **** is the point of doing that. Just going to wait until I think it looks good enough.

    Port?
NO WAY! I basically have to spend another 9 hours rigging that race up also. Well probably less maybe, like half of that. Anyways, there is no way I'm going to spend my time porting this to other races. Yeah, there is a way for me to port it to other races. Its called paying for my time and services rofl xD. Seriously, its that bad I don't want to do it again.

Whenever I release this, by all means, if you're a modder and you think you're good enough to do this, by all means, go ahead and do it. All I gotta say is have fun setting all those skeleton values. Its absolutely horrendous.

So this will be HF only. I really don't see why people complain about what race gets the best and most mods now. I can and will port everything to HF eventually and they also have exclusive stuff the other races don't have. Well, I know some would still debate me on that, so whatever hehe.

    Closing remarks
Haven't tried this in game. I know I give my seal of approval of any mods that I do or check myself ingame, but I'm not so sure on this one just yet hehe.

I will release when the rigging looks decent enough for you not to notice any problems and you see updated shots + black version on here. If you don't see me post again in this topic, I probably stopped working on it due to the complexity of it or too busy in rl to care about it.

The eyepatch thing Gilgamesh wore I can port to other races if I wanted to. That is easy to do. Too bad I won't do it unless I have to though lol.

~Peace, gotta go try this out ingame fo sho hehe.

          Re: Gilgamesh Outfit

This is to show you that it works in game. If it didn't I would of been pissed off.

I was actually surprise how it works in game. The problems you see in the shots in the first post was nearly non existant in game.

When I'm walking about, the lower body/cape is flowing like never before. Very very fluid and smooth. When I ran, it picked up on that and looked very nice . The upper was even better on how it flows because normally, that part doesn't have any movement at all (You'd have to try this out to see what I mean by that). I remember setting different skeletal values for that which is why the model looks messed up in some things. But the lower body and upper body are in unison working together making it look very life like .

I wasn't able to test it until now because I didn't really have the time of day yesterday to go in game and check it. After going to ls events today, I switched races and tried it out and I it .

I am thinking about making a EM version........but I'm just throwing that out for now. Guild mates like this mod very much so I was thinking about doing a EM port of it since they like it hehe. But I don't feel like wasting time.

I'm booked up this week with exams, but I'll try to make some time to work on stuff this week.

            Re: Gilgamesh Outfit

Heh, I had some time to work on this some more. After taking one out of 2 big exams this week (today), I felt great.

So get ready to see the black version and the changelog

            Changelog
            - Fixed up boot textures some more (Black Version)
            - Attached the small objects to her boots (Black Version)
            - Black design success
            - 3rd design in motion. Uses black version.
            - Not related to Project but new earrings. Don't they look a lot better hehe?

Good news is that I have analyzed her upper body over and over and finally come to a conlusion that I can fix all the issues. Why haven't I already went ahead and did it? No time. I don't have hours on end on weekdays unless its a Friday. So by just looking at the photos, I can easily tell what skeletal value I have to set to what. Now granted, I'm not saying it will be a success, but I think for the most part it will look a lot better after I'm done with it.

            The Pictures
Well you get to see some more good and bad. Thats all I have to say.

            Front

            Back

            Side

            Misc shot

Now here is where I'm telling you that the lower body....or lets say nothing animates itself at all when doing a ws. This is a modelviewer issue (Maybe ingame too, but I know I saw my other mods that had capes flowing), but I wanted to show anyways. Works fine in game.

            Other things
The 3rd and final design is replacing the rest of the default textures with my own style. It will use the black version. You won't see this anytime soon. Infact, you probably wouldn't see it until late March.

Busy people, I wouldn't expect this anytime this week. I got a lot of work to do so modding is a very low priority this week. Most of my work that I say I will release will be up on my site on my spring break when I have the time. I'm not going to state my spring break either hehe. I may go and relax a week and then come back and say its my spring break xD.

Black version > Original for me. I am a fan of dark colors you know.

As for EM port, I will see what I can do. Right now, I am more comfortable with the HF skeletal system instead of EM because I work on HF like 24/7 compared to EM. I also know how most if not all HF's skeletal system works.

Its possible to see another update this week, I won't rule that out.

Leaving the modding scene for two weeks starting Saturday. If you send me a pm, I'll let you beta test both the white and black version.

I don't need any reports, I already know what needs to be fixed. Works exceptionally well in game. Just know, its not perfect and you're using half done work when it comes to the upper body .

So bye bye for about 2 weeks .

                  Re: Gilgamesh Outfit

I'll break my silence for now.

I do not know why I'm posting at 2:00 am, but I had some time to work on my Gilgamesh Project even further and did EM.

Very great news though. I have got the rigging absolutely perfect almost for his arms and body.

Bad news is that I didn't have the time or the motivation (I'm very sleepy atm, half awake) to do the lower body, i.e the cape part. So its like a stick figure, it follows the body.

                  EM - Version
                  Skele Rigging
                  Upper Body - 100%
                  Arms & hands - 95%
                  Lower Body - 0%

Boots for the EM version isn't finished yet.

Reasons why the EM version is better than HF
                  1. Doesn't suffer from the rigging problem with the arms / hands. There is a small little problem on EM right arm (His right), but you can't notice it unless you freeze frame it.
                  2. Doessn't suffer from the upper body issues
                  3. Looks better on EM .

What HF version has that EM will probably never have
                  1. Awesome rigging on the lower body minus one part. It flows very good.

So here is one shot. Yeah, thats all I can do, I really need to sleep.

Don't send me a pm yet about this, but I will say after I have made the lower bottom have motion in it, I will post link in private sections on my guild forums and let my guild mates try it out first for a good while. Then after some time, I'll give out link via pm then eventually, release to public.

So you can send me a pm if you want regarding this, just know you wouldn't get it until like next week or the week after considering I actually finish the lower body this week.

Oh and if you want to port this version to another race, have fun with scaling, moving, and setting skeletal points. I WILL NOT be making one for any other race. Its just going to be EM & HF.

People who pm me about HF version, check your pms now. I left you a nice message .

Anyways, I'm tired of modding FFXI. Someone take over for me. My 2 week break off from modding thus continues.

People still interested in this? I thought some JP released it for everyone lol? That made me say, no need to work on mine anymore lol. I think my had better animation though .

Nevertheless, I'll pick back up on this project and finish it off for HF this weekend and release it on here. Black and White version that is. THe custom one won't come for awhile.

The EM version, I do not know. Last I left off, I said I got everything pat down for it, but dang......its been so long that I don't remember what to set the skeleton weight to nor do I remember which skeleton to set the weight to. If you wish to mess with the weight yourself, you can pm me and I'll send you the file. Otherwise, wait on me to do this which will be in the year 2020.

Ok, I got to go, in a hurry.

                            Hah, I think I'm becoming more reliable now maybe.....so reliability+1 ;P.

Lets see, now I remember why I did not finish this. Besides the many body problems, I never did the boots or gloves. Well I did, but I did not port Gilgy's hands/boots to HF.

Before any more explanation on that, lets see if you like this.......

                            Black version
                            Models
                            Upper Body............................fully working
                            Lower Body..............................almost fully working
                            Gloves......................................Resized again
                            Boots.....................................ported
                            Boots - feminine.....................................almost successful
                            Upper Body - Feminine..................................successful
                            Lower body skeletal weight fix..............................success

                            Textures
                            Gloves.......................................finished
                            Boots.........................................finished

What is different about my version versus the one that JP created around the time I was half done with this?

                            1. Feminine
                            2. Uses different gloves and pants model
                            3. Black version + custom designs
                            4. Skeletal weight is slightly different. I guess that JP and I think on the same wavelength because most of our values were the same. Many don't know, but I have a well documented text file explaining what every single skeleton does......almost. Its like half finished lol. Don't ask for it.
                            5. Additional features.........hmm.........lets see.........I'm going to add a pirate's hat if I can. I hate eyepatches. It ruins my HF's beauty lol.
                            6. EM port in the works still, but don't expect until the year 2190.
                            7. Unlike any other gilgy mod, the outfit isn't all the way up to her neck. Just compare mine and the one that was released. Mine has been shifted down
                            7. It was treated with special care.......aka my TIME! Hmm lets see........7 hours!

What do I mean by Feminine? Ok people, Gilgamesh a guy thus this was a guy's outfit. I have sized down his outfit to be more feminine. You can notice this on the body, boots, pants, and gloves. I did not give her any breast enhancement. You basically have to make 5 billion points just for one part. Go compare that JP version with mine. Very very different....especially when I design my custom one. But animation wise, they are somewhat the same minus the fact mine uses different values for some.

It may be finished, but there is A MAJOR problem with her left foot. It looks as if I didn't set a couple points correctly. But this problem only occurs in some animations. But I can tell its the skeletal weight.

Lets see, some updated shots.......yes we need that now don't we ;P? Lets do old > new.

Here is a old shot, what I want you to see is that clipping with the lower body and the pants. Oh and btw......took a look of these old shots and man.......that head model..........I freaked out lmao. Umm its kinda fugly compared to Demios head model. And damn...didn't know old body model was that bad lol. Ah good ol days haha. Forget what I said, just babbling.

Here is the newly redesigned outfit and notice 0 clipping with the pants and lower body.

Wooh another. You should notice the difference.....umm I sure did....

                            Old

                            New

Ah, one more comparison shot. Lol.....I can barely look at the old shot since I'm more of a head/facial modeler/texturer. The thing to point out here is just the lower body. See how it looks in the old shot? Little messed up

                            Old

New - Looks better even though they aren't doing the same animation. It still shows you what I'm talking about.

                            Release?

Omgz, where is teh d/lz linkz lol?! Well guys, I did promise this weekend, but you're going to have to wait just a tad longer. Originally I was going to release it today, but there is that major problem with the left boot that needs fixing. There is also some minor adjustments that need to be made to the lower body. Why not do this right now? After 7 hours of playing with points, do you really think I have any motivation to fix these issues even if they are easy? Nope.

Also, I "might" delay the release for whatever else I'll be bringing to the project.....mainly headgear and my custom outfits. I will try to release tomorrow with one custom design, but the problem is, the custom designs are supposed to be really good and if I'm rushed, this may turn out to be crap. Custom armor like things in my Demios project take up to 4-6 hours of thinking + applying. You don't let me think, you get crappy custom made outfits.

Then again, I might just release black version tomorrow, then release whatever new later. I fear this may not work in game due to what I have done. It may not look like it, but I did a major rehaul on the project itself.

                            Ports
Not porting guys. People have asked me, I'm not porting. I have a half rigged EM gilgy outfit though. If you wish to mess with it yourself, just send me a pm.

This is my first and last npc outfit that I will do. TIME CONSUMER! Let someone who has a ton of time and patience (After 10 hours, I start getting poed) do it.

                            Edit
                            Fixed those annoying grammatical errors....................-.-

Mee and my first mate will continu'n travl'n tee great ol sea with tee crew and all!

                              Lolol, had to do that

Like I said, I am a very imaginative and creative person. Thanks goes out to Pirates of the Carribean for making me think of adding the monkey lol. It may not be a offical monkey, but thats as close as you're going to get .

What I like to do is things people say is impossible. Long hair? Well, I'm going to prove to people that long hair is possible with full animations. Thats what I'm working on above. Anything else? Hah just give it to me. If I can make it in Oblivion, I can make it here. I can make whatever I want in this game lol.

The reason I keep changing my hair is because umm, in the project I'm supposed to be working on, I have many hairstyles .

Anyways, I do not know if that version of the outfit will work in game. Considering I don't have a account anymore and hmm........I think all old friends are gone now lol that I can't test it myself. So this brings me to the question of saying..........hmm, who wants to beta test that for me? Send me a PM. Whoever send me the first one, I'll talk with you briefly. I probably wouldn't give it to whoever until the next saturday because of reasons I won't say.

Can that monkey be fully animated? Hyades says yes. I can make its head turn like your character so they are both looking at you. But it looks sorta wierd imo.........actually it looks demonish which I will use as a part of my demios project. Yes, that gilgy outfit is one of the many that is in that project. IT is NOT considered armor. I'll make a evil looking monkey I guess with horns on his head or something also.

I can animate the tail if I really wanted to, but right now, I'm not worrying about that. I don't play with points when I'm half awake. This is indeed possible though. Could I animate the body? Thats possible, but it wouldn't look right. I can't make the monkey jump up and down.

No I will not increase the size of the monkey. If it was on a male character, i would.

If I get the pirate hat done, then it would look a hell of a lot cooler in my opinon, but thats going to take a lot of time.

I am still planning to release this err today (One without monkey aka opa opa), but very late......like when people are asleep. Oh and I'm not releasing the original version. That means the white one aka one gilgamesh wore. If you wish to have the original, just go download the JP one and replace the textures and waah lah! Umm......don't do it on the gloves though.........so looks like you'll have to do some texture editing.

Argggh, me and the first mate are tired so wee go retire for tee night!
