Didn't you know? Dragon Ball Z followed the same formula. Naruto's trying to be the next DBZ.

Think back to the "Planet Namek / Frieza" Saga in DBZ...

Goku's flying to planet Namek... all the while Frieza, Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin, & Piccolo are scrambling for the Dragon Balls...

Vegeta challenges Frieza... Meanwhile Gohan and Krillin get their powers awakened by the "Eldest Namek"... Then don't even USE them on Frieza... EVER...

Vegeta gets his butt stomped... Goku recovers his injuries from an earlier fight...

Then Goku boasts about how he's gonna kick Frieza's butt... So he starts summoning a Spirit Bomb... which takes him about TWENTY EPISODES to charge it...

He uses it... Goku and Frieza sling verbal "mud" at each other some more... Then FINALLY after all that garbage... Finally Goku goes "Super Saiyajin" for the first time ever...

... a 294+ Episode Anime series, plus like... 13+ movies and OVAs... and about 45% of it is "Fillers" and "Side Stories" that don't have much to do with anything...

...

And apparently, people eat this stuff up.

OH! And let's not forget the Cell saga.

Dr. Gero is back, and this time he has energy eating androids...and he kinda is one. They nearly KILL Goku with some kind of heart attack. I don't really remember.

So then Trunks comes and gives him medicine, while Vegeta has come back Super Sayin finally.

And then androids 16, 17, and 18 show up! Zomg!

And then they're terrorizing everything.

And then Cell shows up from Trunks' time.

about 3 straight episodes of fighting stances and dialogue. Something about Piccalo ripping his arm off.

And then he eats 17 with his tail. That always kinda creeped me out.

5 episodes of dialogue, 16 looses his hand. Kuririn gets a crush on 18, and because of that doesn't destroy 18.

Cell eats 18 with his tail. He's now Perfect Cell, and it's all Kuririn's fault.

Cell kicks hardcore ass now, and he's making a tournament...so he just stands there for like a week.

Hyperbolic time chamber. 2 days of training are suddenly 2 years.

Some asshat with an affro and a handlebar moustache in a cape shows up and claims himself the champion of Earth. Unfortunately, he doesn't die.

Dialogue.

Fighting that's too swooshy to really see.

Goku says he's going to let Gohan fight.

Dialogue about Gohan having some kind of ADD retard rage.

Cell goads him into bringing out afforementioned rage.

Gohan goes SS2, and completely owns cell. He punches him in the gut and he vomits out 18 (fucking awesome.)

He reverts from his Perfect form and decides he's going to self destruct. Goku teleports them to King Kai's place and kills them all. King Kai never forgave Goku for that.

Cell comes back through BS science that doesn't really make any sense.

Giant blue beams being shot at each other that nearly destroy the earth.

Cell finally dies. Whoop de freaking.

only reason theres fillers for naruto atm is cuz the anime is letting the manga advance futher since the anime caught up so fast

I have to say, I thought that Naruto was like DBZ but I was very wrong I got hooked on the series. It's great. It has too many fillers, yes, but it's argued that it's simply to let the manga get a little bit further ahead. But the character development is great, and the world seems to have real rules and be really worked out.
