quick question about changing colors

i have a an armor thats mostly red, i want to make it white, but id like to maintain the shading. Ive tried every Adjustement in photoshop i can think of, but i cant find a way to "bleach" the color out of this red armor, making it white without losing the shading.

Suggestions?

Yeah, white is tricky. Just take out most of the saturation and make sure it's a light to moderate grey. It might look too dark in photoshop, but trust me, it is brightened A LOT in game. The lighter parts WILL look white and have shadows in bright/daylight...and in caves or darker area, they'll look grey...just like they should.

ya thats what i got so far "Desaturate", it does look really gray, i tried lightning it but all i could do was increase the actual lighting, which looks stupid. Ill convert it over an see how it looks ingame

EDIT: i Desaturate, then Autocolor, which is a lighter gray, but it doesnt do the same color on each section, theres variation lol

hmm, got a linky for gimp? im getting pretty good with photoshop but theres definetly limitations.

i dont remember the link im sorry and the file is too big to post here, but if you google gtk+-2.6.9-setup.zip that should find you the right file, or just google the gimp but you might wanna turn safe search on, idk why this has gone bold halfway through and i cant seem to fix it

btw... if you already have PS why would you want to switch over to GIMP? >.>

i find PS confusing >> gimp is much easier to use in my opinion
