Re: Program help...
Been using the following past years....
Modeling
Metasequoia
VRS (JP)
3D Studio Max (Failure heh. Still trying to find a way to be able to work on models in max. I use max for hq renders)
Textures
Photoshop CS
Photoshop CS2
Corel Graphics Suite 12
Other
Changetex (Used to inject dds into dat)
FFXi FileChangetool
FFXITool
POLUtilities
Modelviewer (duh lol)
Rest of of tools I don't feel like naming off.
I don't know why people would still use Graphics Converter 3 if they have PS. The best method is to get the dds plugin nVidia made and you can open dds files in PS after that.
Here, direct d/l link to that (My host, not Nvidia)

You may also want to be able to view dds files in explorer so d/l this too. It helps me out when I have mutiple dds files.

By not using GC3 and going in directly with PS to work on textures, you save some time if you're good at PS. Not only that, you can save your work as psds and if you want to make a change, just open the psd file and save as dds after you're done. If I couldn't do this, I could not make different styles of whatever project I'm working on.
Now I think you're only going to be working on character textures and not anything relating to DXT1 textures so you would save your dds file as what is shown in this ss....
You will know if you're messing with a DXT1 or 3 texture by opening the dat file in changetex. I'm just letting you know you'll be using what is shown in the SS most of the time.
After that, run changetex, find the dat file and click on the first button and find your dds file and there you go, done. If you want to extract the dds file from a dat, you would press the second button.
IF you want to use GC3, then by all means, use it. To me, you can't really get much done with it compared to PS due to its features. I usually see better mods by people who have done it in PS compared to using GC3. Thus, I tell most of people asking advice from me to use PS.
That's all I'm going to say. I would dwell deeper into this, but I will not do it ok heh. Hope this helped you out.
