How do you replace music

I'm sure there are other people wondering the same thing, so I figured I'd start a topic. If anyone willing to give instructions on how to go about changing a music file (like replace the intro music with something else) please do so. What kind of converter would you use, and what program would you use to figure out exactly what file you're trying to replace? I read something about FFXItool allowing you to listen to the bgw's in the game, but if it'd be possible, would anyone be willing to give a step by step on what to do? I'd be cool to replace the fighting music with FFVII music XD. Thanks in advance for any help ^_^

heheh i changed the intro music (menu) to "water" from the advent children ost fits so well.
