  • any guide to model editing?

hey guys I'm really interested in this DAT thing and found a reason amount of guides to edit textures. But im thinking about modelling my own armor into the game and wondering if htere's any good guide about it around. First goal for me - give AFs some capes ^^

The only ones I know of are in Japanese. They are located at http://www.geocities.jp/burumakun/index.html They seem to be quite extensive, but I really don't know since I'm only judging by amount of text and pictures. Maybe we should make it the goal of this .DAT and Image Rendering Forum to translate them in hopes that we can build an extensive community of modders much like what appears on MMO XOOPs. As far as I can tell, no such English speaking community exists.

wow they can even edit the UVs in that metasequoia(?) application. Never heard of that apps before. Seeing starving could put his models into 3D studio maybe we'll find a way to put the models back from 3ds to the game.

There's a lot that can be done with metasequoia it seems. Understanding the Japanese to work it is another issue all together. Though, we got through the Japanese version of model viewer, I'm sure there are people that will get over the language barrier.

Metasequioa isnt hard to use its even possible to add textures to your FFXI character using it.
Say you like the graphic for earings. you can add it.
Or you want to add Cornelias cape. You can add it also. But it takes time.
          UnfortunatelyTime I dont have now.

I will post a somewhat guide. I took Gravitons Clothing and changed it to another .dat altogether Ill post it thursday.

          Metasequioa is VERY powerful.
Maybe soon i'll have free time to translate it.

I think FFXI 2.0 will have capes in it. City of heroes added capes realistically. I thnk FF could also.

Re: any guide to model editing?

I've started to play around with meta. I'm so glad it's multi-lingual otherwise I'd have no idea what I'm doing. Well, I still have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm slowly learning. I'm trying to change Elvaan Female's Healer's Pantaln to a similar style i've downloaded for Hume Female's and Mithra's (Elvaan Females almost always get the shaft when it comes to cool female armor). Anyway, I've begun exporting differant MQOs from Model Viewer and throwing them into Meta. This app is indeed powerful. Once I figure out how to set textures, I'll be able to create many of the things that I've wanted to create for Elvaan Females. Sexy BST AF, hear I come!

starving artist showed me this tool today
                  http://210.171.112.25/script/SVWeb.d...=0ff4159bGuest
it can even see the model's skeleton hierachy o.O
For what I'm trying to do I'm pretty sure I'll need to adjust the skin weight of my model, this tool may be able to do it. Still figuring out how to use it atm.

Re: any guide to model editing?

So I got my first thing created in Meta. It's basically a mod of Elvaan Female's Healer's Pantanl using a design i got off of MMO XOOPs, Femina Subligar model, and the original model. Had to do some editing in PSP but I got it working. I, of course, have already converted the .BMPs to DXT3 .dds and have everything saved and ready to go, but when I convert it back into a .dat in Model Viewer, it won't display properly at all. It looks much like what it would look like if you tried to use mithra armor on hume, garbled and all over the place. Any ideas of what step I'm missing, tazirai?

*Edit* I'm pretty sure my problem lies in the .mcd file which I opened in note bad to see a bunch of info on verticies. I'll have to figure out how to get an .mcd file to correspond with my .mqo file if i'm going to get this to work.

Virtual reality is indeed great I( havent played around with itmuch to be an expert though.
I'll ask Estya about when i online again to get some advice.

As for you Solid did you add the right mip mapping? It has to correspond to the actual .dat size of the file you're trying to replace. If you are creating a NEW .dat from an . mqo,It just takes somegetting used to. I use the JP meta~I'll download the LE and see what I can do.
i'll try to recreate what you did.

Are you using the Hume malemodel?or Elvaan fem model? I cant tell from there

I'm using an Elvaan Female model. I attached what what i've been trying to convert if you want to take a look at it. I've encountered the same problem while trying to change the Elvaan Female BST Helm to just horns as well. It probably is the MIP mapping you speak of because I have no idea what it is. I'm pretty much teaching my self all this stuff as I go.

cool Ill take a look at it and see what I can come up with.
Basically mipping adds some dimension to the model. basically allows you to see horn in 3d instead of 2d.
