      Hi Pdac,

Thank you very much for your informative guide. I'm getting cooking to 60 this week, and then moving on to clothcrafting. Gotta be able to make my own cursed gear ^^.

I have a question though regarding the guild contracts. How exactly do those work? If I'm l48, and want to get the glasses, I need 70000 points. How do I get those points? Thanks!

Damiit Pdac uve manage to create suspense over lessons on how to craft. Ive reached 40 and am looking forward to ur *profitable synths with velvet*

Damn i hate my server the AH is screwing me over with wool prices ..

Quick question for u pdanc or anyone else: what level skill do i need to make the velvet cloths using cotton (with not many failures) as this on my server seems to be like a money maker

        TY in advance

bump for yummy profit sharing goodness, now if only people will stop skilling up just to make one profitable synth and flood the market AND undersell so that it drops to no profit shorltly after i get there (silk cloth dropped to 2.5k while i was skilling... thankfully jeuno ran out and someone kindly bid 3.5k and someone else got it up to 4k, and it's stayed there) sadly going to have to start on something else, and everything else looks like a loss at this point... going to have to do more research on stuff... and make a huuuge spreadsheet

Hey great job so far on the guide. I have not started yet with clothcrafting but when I do your guide is gonna be what helps me get very high quickly and efficiently.

Just a few questions if I could. One about how much roughly would you say you spent getting as high as you have? Have you been making a little profit along the way? And last question about how many synths, failed or successful, would you say it took you to get 5 levels?

Again great guide and I look forward to your next installment.

i think ill take Cotton dogi to 27

Cotton Dogi [27] Grass Thread Cotton Cloth x3 Cotton Dogi+1

i can make a small piece of profit on ODin with this, then ill just suck it up and make soil's till 30

                    Midterm! Clothcraft 52-65!

Today is your midterm everyone! Now is the time to put away those notes and hide the answers, because exam time is upon us! But before we make the last major leap to catch up with my present level, here's this sessions notes and responses.

                    Notes:

Well, I've managed to get a measly 2 levels of skill in the past week. It seems that skill gains become fewer and further between the higher you get. I haven't been able to test this theory, but input from any other high-level crafters would be great.

I've found some new recipes which can be quite profitable, mostly hidden ones for making CP gear (windurstian gear mostly). Also, prices have changed quite a bit on my server recently, with lilac corsages dipping by almost 75k! This was a primary moneymaker for me for quite a while, and due to some high-levels flooding the market with them, I could no longer turn a profit. They had apparently gotten the rarer ingredients through Dynamis somehow, and therefore had to pay much less to make them. It forced a change in my production, and I've now found some newer recipes to synth for reliable profit.

I've finally gotten suppliers for Damascne cloth! I have 4 in stock, and need two more before I can make a pair of vermillion cloaks. Its risky, and I highle recommend avoiding this kind of synth unless you are willing to risk a 2.2million gil failure. But the profit is enormous - nearly 500k per sale, because it is so hard to get the ingredients. They are an HNM drop *only* as far as I know.

                    Responses:

Roll Light, thanks for the for compliments. Also, thanks go out to everyone who made the tags to keep it to the top (I know people want it to be sticky, and I would be happy with that, but I'm also loathe to ask as I don't know how that would be handled).

Arturo-B, good luck on the cloth effort, and I'm glad to hear you got so high in cooking. Thats a lucrative field at that level, impressive As for the guild contracts, I believe how it works is that you sign the contract (you must be a novice or higher). You can only get guild points in one guild at a time. They tell you what item they are accepting for point, and you have the option to make that item for the maximum points they allow at the time. You can then redeem the points for items as you go. At the moment, I amassed enough for the glasses and have some left over. Now time to go get the apron

Setheron, I didn't realize I'd made any suspense. Velvet *is* profitable at times, but its also taken a recent dip as of late. Wool cloth is probably the best profit per stack (~50k per stack on my server) and you can farm the sheep wool easily, making for a a tedious but useful pastime. Wool Cloth's level is 37, but it should not fail much once around 40. It was a reliable synth past 43, and has never failed since. Hope that helps a bit As for making Lilac Corsages, don't even try it until past 58. I'll show the recipe in the lesson.

METDeath, I know how it goes, believe me I've never seen silk cloth go for that cheap however - are you referring to stacks or singles? As for profiting, it does vary a lot from server to server. Take some time and watch the market, keep an eye on items that sell frequently that you can make, and slowly establish a hold on that item. I'm now on to wool cloth, rainbow cloth and Aketons. Notice that I've dumped Lilac Corsages as a profit maker now (as is explained above).

dodger1v, I've spent a lot. I didn't take the time to profit along the way, preferring to rush through the levels. I've spent along the lines of 1.2 million to get my present level, at least. Thanks for the compliments, I hope you do well when you start.

pcidll, as for making soil hachimakis, I used those due to their ease of making and few ingredients, making for a cost effective levelling recipe. If you do need to stop and profit for a bit, take your time. It's worth it in the end.

But I also must now split the post in two. Darn maximum character length! Darn you to heck!
                    -pdac (retired)

At the endgame, I had: Full AF for RDM, RNG and NIN. Sky, Clothcraft 97, smithing 45 and far too much gil. My Jobs ended at RDM 75, NIN 65, RNG 59, BLM 37, WAR 33 and SMN 26. Finally, I synthed a Royal Cloak /signed/ for a friend.

                    Time to move on.

See you all on the flip side (*'-')/

                      Part 2!

And now time for a our lesson. Clothcraft 52-65! Open your books to chapter 5, and be ready!

So now its time to make your most tedious jump. I'm sure you've noticed the slowing of your skill gains recently. It varies, for sure, but its there. You've been making insect fletchings all the way to this point, and now its time to change up. And this time, you probably will avoid selling on the AH for quite a while. Today, we make Green Ribbons. And more Green Ribbons. And more...well, you get the idea. But one note: on my server they sell at the AH for about 200gil more than you can resell them to a vendor! Go ahead and just straight sell them if you like, it'll speed things up and keep the drain on your pocketbook down.

For the ingredients, take all that silk thread you had and make cloth with it.

Recipe: [Level 53] Earth + Silk Thread (3) = Silk Cloth

Now make your main synth, using the ingredient you just made. This will make it easier to farm and save gil, so take your time and go to it.

Recipe: [Level 62] Wind + Silk Cloth (1) = Green Ribbon

Make them. And keep making them. This time, you probably can't equip it anyways! These will level slowly but steadily. Take your test at level 58, become a craftsman, and keep going. I stopped making these at 60, as the skill gain became very small.

So, You've gotten 60, and you're ready for the final stage of our lesson. Here it is, using only one more ingredient that you need: Carbon Fiber.

Recipe: [Level 69] Earth + Silk Thread (1) + Carbon Fiber (1) = Silk Headband

Make these again. Sell them to vendors if you like, as they usually sell for really cheap on the AH on my server. Keep going, and you will reach 65 slowly but surely.

Now for profitable synths! You can make some serious gil now, if you have your wits about you and luck on your side. Now, here we go.

Recipe: [Level 53] Earth + Velvet Cloth (2) + Linen Cloth (3) + Silver Thread = Black Tunic

Note: That is a synth that can be either very profitable or a total gil-pit. It depends on how much you farm and what server you're on.

Recipe: [Level 60] Earth + Linen Cloth + Wool Thread + Wool Cloth (2) = Field Hose

(Now here's some really expensive, but also highly profitable synths...that also took a nosedive on my server too)

                      Recipe: [Level 56] Lightning + Twincoon (2) = Twinthread

                      Recipe: [Level 50] Wind + Silk Cloth (1) + Spider Web + Lilac + Twinthread (1) = Lilac Corsage

Those two go hand in hand, as twinthread is often more expensive than the corsages on my server. Check prices on your own, it may be very profitable. Do remember though, that the price can be high to do it, and one failure can wipe you out almost totally!

[Note: I removed Aketon from this profitable synth list, as I realized it apparently requires a high level of goldsmithing, which others likely will not have.]

Anyways, those are my profit making synths for this level. You've now achieved a very high level in clothcraft, far higher than most ever dare to go. Congrats! Hoist a pint for yourself and celebrate, kick back and relax a bit, sit in the guild, and watch all the newbies as they synth the same things you were levelling off of so long ago. It's time to enjoy the fruits of your labors for a while.

Now, I'm sure you're thinking "Thats it? Isn't there more? What about Clothcraft 70+? C'mon Pdac, don't leave us hanging!" Well, fear not, I shant "leave you hanging" so to speak. The next chapter shall be clothcraft 65-75. Complete with new developments, new strategies and new recipes. Until then, stay tuned! Same Cloth time, same Cloth channel!

                      :p

Yeah I realized that also so I make heko obi's instead until 27.
                        1 grass thread+2 cotton cloth=Heko Obi.
                        Antician Robe+wind crystal=1-6 Cotton Cloth.
Heko obi+ lighting crystal=4-7 cotton thread.(This raises your skill also)
                        3 cotton thread+earth crystal=cotton cloth.

I used all those recipes hand in hand and saved myself alot of money.

Thank you again Pdac. I have another question for you. In regards to goldsmithing supporting clothcrafting, what minimum level of goldsmithing do you think is acceptable? Is 20 ok, or do I really need 60 in goldsmithing to support my making of things at higher level clothcrafting? Thanks!
