  • Harvest time question.

I'm not sure if anyone knows this, but does the time I wait before I harvest my plants affect them in any way, as long as I'm checking on them?

For instance, say the moon is at 76% or something and I want to wait until it's full, will the waiting have a negative effect on the possibility of a better harvest due to the full moon? Like, would waiting for it cancel it out?

I only ask this because I keep getting crappy harvests either because it's not the full moon, or because I wait too long to harvest (at least I think that's what it is) and I'm just curious if anything has been tested regarding what you get. How long can I wait once my plants are ready to be picked without picking them, as long as I'm still checking up on them?

I'm really trying to figure this whole process out.

    Re: Harvest time question.

Best Answer: A lot of people think they know the answer to that question, but variables and growth times being as they are, if anyone has any true, statistical, concrete evidence on tweaking growth rates for plants then they're keeping it very quiet. As for me, I don't think anyone actually has that information and the conjectural hypotheses vary depending on who you talk to. All in all, I find that at least with things that are "easy" to get the crystal/day of fertilzation is the most important. Since there's no "magic formula" and any tweakage based on the moon is not necessarily true in all cases, given the complexity of gardening, I would say... collect some data and then tell us what you find. There are many posts on the forum containing experimental data concerning Wildgrass Seeds.

WRT Lunar Cycles, I've only done 3 batches of Saplings ever so my data is very weak esp. since I haven't bothered to record it Although once I did get 6 Dark Ore off of a single 12-stack... (of course the next time I got 0). The lesson is record exactly when you plant, and keep planting on the same lunar cycle and using the same fertilization to see what you get over multiple trials. Gardening could be hideously complicated or it could be rather simple--I have no clue.

WRT Growth times: I've observed a higher rate of Tree Sapling production from longer-growth Tree Cuttings, but I don't know what causes the long growth cycle in the first place (and it's not Porcelain Flower Pots). Feeding an same-element crystal (e.g. a Dark crystal for a Dark plant such as a sapling) speeds up growth and conversely feeding an opposite-crystal slows growth. Remember if you let your plants go to long depending on the strength of your Gardening Moghancement, they will wither and you'll get nothing instead (which is in some cases better than the something you get... 68 little worms?).

WRT Harvest Time: No idea.. Some people swear it works. Others say it doesn't do anything.

WRT to Examination: Repeated examination may or may not have an effect. My brother and I noticed that you can continually examine a plant while d/cing and get results so it may be that only the first examination within a certain time period does anything. The plant's product does not seem to be fixed at the time of harvest, however, as you can occasionally observe by filling all but one slot of your Mog Safe, a "change" in either yield or product when the moogle says he can't harvest right now and then, receive only a single item the next time you ask for harvest.

WARNING: People (2 I think I've read) who have experimented with the variable harvest phenomonon have noted that the product never gets "better" only worse. Therefore, it is not advisable to load your Moghouse up and repeatedly harvest a sapling to try to get an ore b/c it only takes up one slot--you might just end up with a single cluster/stack of leaves instead of the two you would've gotten if you had space the first time.

I remember thinking how clever I was when I came up with that strategy while growing elemental ores. But it never worked. And then I recall reading somewhere that SE had patched this, in order to prevent abuses with harvesting stuff like elemental ores.
