  • Question on Yellow Globes

I'm wanting to make poison potions, making mercury is easy now due to the Denizanasi jellyfish, it's so nice to have a NPC that never(I think) runs out of them.

However Yellow Globes can't really be NPC'd it looks like. My fishing skill is about 11, I have the full set of fishing gear and a Halycon rod. I see that Yellow Globes cap at lvl 17, can I use them as skillup fish or would it be better to fish up some Forest Carp first, cap my fishing skill at 17 I think it is with them, and then fish up Yellow Globes?

Also, bait to catch Yellow Globes is:

    Bait:

    Lugworm
    Crayfish Ball

    Rigs:

    Sabiki
    Rogue
    Robber
    Worm Lure

I'm undecided between using a Worm Lure or a Sabiki/Robber rig. In general, which of these, and the baits, are better for targeting Yellow Globes? I'm under the impression the Sabiki/Robber rigs target a wide variety of things, and so they may not be the best choice, even though they can bring in up to 3 fish at once.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

    Re: Question on Yellow Globes

I think Forest Carp is harder to target than Yellow Globe. I recall briefly trying to skill up on Forest Carp, but being highly disappointed.

It's been a long time, but IIRC, I did Greedies for a while in Selbina (since I needed a Fat Greedie for the quest). If you don't need a Fat Greedie, you could move on to Yellow Globe. Sabiki Rig in Port Jeuno worked well for me. The other choices for bait/lure to target Yellow Globe will usually target other things anyway.

After that, I moved on to Cheval Salmon just outside of San d'Oria, rather than Forest Carp.

      Re: Question on Yellow Globes

I normally catch yellow globes in Qufim. You'll also hook subligar and great sword here. With Halcyon, those 2 will snap your line. So I would stick to life baits or the cheaper worm lure.

Nebimonite caps 27, you can single them out with cray fish paste fishing on Ferry between mhaura and selbina. It's usually my top choice for this skill level. Watch out for sea horror tho.

In terms of quantity over time spent, Sabiki Rig is your best bet. It's the only lure in the game that catches multiple fish, and Yellow Globe is one of the ones it targets.

My recommendation would be Qufim's Ice Pond (in the middle of the map - there's a bunch of worms and a couple of Banshees that spawn in the area at night). Aside from items, Yellow Globe are the only fish that will be targetted by Sabiki Rig in that location.

I would recommend bringing a decent strength fishing rod, like a Halcyon,

          Re: Question on Yellow Globes

I usually catch yellow globes in Mhaura, using Sabiki Rig and Halcyon Rod. Any non-yellow globes can be sold to npc nearby.

              Re: Question on Yellow Globes

Port Jeuno worked just fine for me to fish up Yellow Globes at lvl 11 skill. I used the full fishing gear set, and a Hume Rod with a Sabiki Rig. The only other fish I caught besides the Yellow Globe was Bastore Sardine (convenient, since I'm using them for Fish Broth to skill up Cooking). I may have caught a few more sardines than globes overall, but I was satisfied. I probably spent 6 or so hours fishing there over 5 days, and after synthing, ended up with 40-50 poison dusts.

Plus... I gained a level in Fishing skill!!! w00t!
