  • Cobalt Jellyfish

Well is me again. As you can see from the title. I want to start lvling alchemy but I will much rather fish Cobalt Jellyfish up than buy it in the AH. And since is a level 5 cap only I doubt I'll have a problem with this one. Beside Selbina which is the best part to catch this and should I only use Halcyon rod with lugworm for the best result of landing a catch or someone else have a better combination of rod and bait for this. Once again thank you all in advance.

(Noobie like me tend to have alot of silly question)

    Re: Cobalt Jellyfish

There's no real good place to catch Cobalt Jellyfish. Jellyfish are quasi-items. There's no bait or lure that attracts Jellyfish. The only way to really increase your chance at jellyfish is to use bait/lure that no fish is attracted to, and hope you dredge up jellyfish instead of items.

If you get frustrated with low catch rate on the jellyfish, I suggest camping the Alchemy guild in Bastok instead. If you have Aht Urhgan access, you can also camp the Fishing guild out there as well as the Alchemy guild. The ToAU equivalent for Jellyfish is Denizanasi, which will substitute for Jellyfish in your targetting skill up Alchemy recipes.

        Re: Cobalt Jellyfish

When I went to go fish up Cobalt Jellies, I went to Norg and used a clothespole and a little worm-- basically the strategy that LyonheartLakshmi pointed out: "use bait/lure that no fish is attracted to, and hope you dredge up jellyfish instead of items."

It ends up being a pretty good deal -- you're only going to pull up rusty items or cobalt jellies. As you pull up rusty items you can sell them at the [conveniently located] AH for people wanting to do the Ninja spells quests.

          Re: Cobalt Jellyfish

When I was leveling Cooking and my wife was leveling Alchemy I found that something I could make helped her out. I would make Sliced Sardines and use my Carbon Rod to fish up Cobalt Jellyfish in Port Bastok. Now, it isn't 100% all the time but I found that I got them at a pretty decent rate. If you can fish for the sardines (Bastore in Port Windy) and make them into Sardines (level 10 Cooking I think) then you might be able to do it cheaply. Of course, this would be time consuming.

Also, check this site out for all your fishing needs: http://www.clanwind.com/ffxi/fishing/default.asp

            Re: Cobalt Jellyfish

If you value your sanity you won't fish for cobalt jellyfish. Camp out the fishing guild in Bibiki Bay and buy them out instead. Totally not worth fishing for.

              Re: Cobalt Jellyfish

Im not sure what level your fishing is at now - however, if you are up to skilling on Shall Shells - go to Valkrum to fish them up. I noticed that the "junk" pull up from there is the Cobalt Jellyfish (opposed to the Kelp in the Penninsula). This way you are skilling up fishing and also getting the item you need to skill up Alchemy.

                Re: Cobalt Jellyfish

Eww. Valkurm and Buburimu have the highest rate of junk imaginable (I've fished extensively in both locales). Sure you'll get a few jellyfish, but you'll also get boatloads of completely largely useless garbage like pamtam kelp or rusty stuff. Buburimu at least has the excuse of having decent amounts of Shall Shell - Valkurm has them, too, but also has Arrowwood Logs which can break your rod unless you're paying attention 100% of the time (unless you're using a Lu Shang's fishing rod or Ebisu).

                  Re: Cobalt Jellyfish

Actually - I dont get much junk and some of the others you can use the !!! as a guideline to not reel it in.
