not sure if this was posted before since there aren't any old threads, but why would you sell fish back to the fishing guild? That is the only place I can't sell what I want, just stuff I fish up.

Selling stuff to the fishing guild will net you more than a regular NPC would, but probably not more than the AH would on most fish. You can only sell fish to the guild until its supply is full, after that, you'll have to wait until it goes down.

        Re: Fishing Guild

some fish just don't sell well over the AH. which would you rather do, put it up on the AH and wait a week before it clears or sell it now to the guild and keep on fishing? as solid-jamz said, sometimes they give you more money than a regular NPC vendor.

        Thanks Yyg!

            Re: Fishing Guild

All crafts make money (eventually), to a greater or lesser extent. The amount you make has more to do with your business savvy than the craft itself. I know level 100 crafters who can't make money to save their lives; it's all about knowing what's selling, and what's not.

Race has no effect on any craft, and job has very little (other than for acquiring materials, or in the case of Fishing, being able to travel and cast protective magic to visit different fishing spots is useful).

Lastly, don't choose a craft just to support your LS. Choose it because you enjoy it, and because you *personally* want something out of it at higher levels. Considering that most crafts aren't really profitable for quite some time, and involve significant investment to skill (be it time or money, usually both), choosing a craft for any other reason than for yourself is a recipe for disappointment. If you choose a craft you don't really like, you're going to be severely annoyed at later stages, when you're investing 20-300K gil per synth, or hours of time (in the case of fishing) to gain a single +0.1 skill up at higher levels.

It should also be noted that, unlike the other crafts, Fishing is exempt from the 40-points over 60 cap. Note my signature; I have level 96 Fishing and level 94 Woodworking, both on the same character, because my fishing levels don't count against the cap.

                  Re: Fishing Guild

Cooking and fishing go very well together.

At low to mid levels (to 60) it will save you a lot of gil over time to be able to make your own bait. Insect balls and crayfish paste are the best examples. Ingredients for a stack of insect paste can be obtained for less that 150 gil, but it sells for 500 or more. Crayfish paste ingredients cost less than 250 a synth, but the bait sells for ~1500 a stack. It adds up a lot, especially since those types of bait are used for two very important fish.

At higher levels, cooking gives you a way to turn your catches into a product that the market will absorb much more quickly. All tank food and all sushi, as well as some frequently used niche food like Tonosama Rice Balls and Flint Caviar, are based on fish. Turning your catches into dishes makes them sell faster and for more money.

Even low level fish do sell. Crayfish, Bastore Sardines, and especially Moat Carp are very decent sources of income to a starting fisher. You can even use the first two to start leveling cooking. Peeled Crayfish caps at 3, Steamed Crayfish at 9, and Sliced Sardines at 11, though you could find a cheaper synth to get your first few levels on than Peeled Crayfish.

Dizz, if you're interested in a craft that you can get some personal use out of, cooking would definately benefit an elvaan blm. With cooking, you can fit the ingredients for 12 non-stacking bottles of MP refreshing pineapple or melon juice into three slots in your inventory and synth them when you need them. I used that a lot as a tarutaru mage, so with your lower MP, it should be even more useful to you.

                    Re: Fishing Guild

Alright, this is what you do. You catch some messed up fish, and then say it's a rare fish! And ask someone that doesn't know about it to pay 100k. Tell them they can ask someone to cook it and make them 100 sushis. Once you get the 100k, switch to a mule and play as the mule for a while until the guy forgets about you. :D lol

                      Re: Fishing Guild

Alot of fish arn't used for anything besides the occasional guild item, so selling them to vendors is the only way to get anything from them. And as Taskmage said, cooking is a nice craft to have if you plan to fish.
