  • chocobo circuit = boring?

I found the chocobo circuit boring. firstly they need to make the actual race track more vibrant and not make the chocobo's run through what looks like sarutabaruta all the time.

The down time between races is too long. although i suppose if u were running to place bets that gives you enough time.

I don't know if i remember this correctly but u can only enter your chocobo into a race once a week?

What happens if everyone enters on monday? What about the rest of the week? We get to watch crappy npc chocobos run around?

Also the chocobo ciruit is a good place for hide and seek. Its too f-ing big and no map.

Square managed to make something that was supposed to be exciting and turned it boring.

I'm pretty easy to please and for the most part ive been happy with what sqaure's done with the game.

    Frankly im dissapointed.

    1) "Everybody" won't register their chocobo on Monday. People have enough common sense to NOT do that... and, seeing as I despise "everyone" (that is, the collective 'you') because I think everyone is a moron (unless proven otherwise), that's saying something. Plus, I'd also be willing to say that there's so many chocobos, doing so would be physically impossible.

    2) There is a map. You can get it free of charge at the central information desk. Read the release notes for a topic before you go making assumptions like this. And, on top of that, who says that something being a good place for hide and seek is a bad thing?

      Re: chocobo circuit = boring?

Actually me and my friends found the circuit to be great and none of us have racing birds. They way it was done so that everyone in the world can meet and greet and enjoy the track was a great idea imo. Though I will admit the races are a LOT more fun when you have a reason for a bird to win (aka placed a bet) and because the bets are so cheap to place it's easy to participate. Add in the fact that anyone can win, regardless of standings, it's just that much more exciting.

The real time Tote Board and stats is a great touch, keeping it feeling active and alive. It also helps those who place bets on the races keep up with everything. Those who figure it out, which isn't really hard to do, will be more then able to make a decent living off that game alone. And with long shots paying up to and over 60k per bet, some big payoffs will certainly happen.

The races aren't even that far apart. With four each Vana D'iel day and a 20 minute break between one day's races and the next, it has a nice pace for those who participate. Plenty of time between races to think out your bets fully with a nice break inbetween that gives you enough time to pick your pride up off the ground and walk away with emptier pockets then when you entered. It's also not that big of a zone and there is a free map literally waiting on a desk for you to pick up.

I've only got to try it out for a little bit with a few friends, but it was certainly a fun event. And the best part was that I didn't get hit too hard in the wallet. Lost my first three bets of 1k each but won my fourth, netting me 3700 gil pratically breaking even. But now that I understand the Tote board I'm sure I'll rake in a few more wins in the future. It also won't be long before PC birds start to dominate the track.

        Re: chocobo circuit = boring?

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but it sounds promising. I've noticed that there seems to be practically no market for racing equipment since it was introed, which is sad. Chocobo Taping in particular looks to be meant as a skillup-friendly good that can easily be produced in bulk. As far as I can tell, though, no one on Midgardsormr has ever bought an entire stack of these, and singles sell very rarely (and usually at inflated prices, even considering the expense of Linen).

As usual, I'll extend my offer of 4k single or 40k/stack for anyone interested on Midgardsormr. Might go a little lower when my finances are in better shape, but for now I'm trying to break even rather than focus on crafting.

Once the circuit starts picking up and people start making big cash off the races, chocobo racing equipment will start to sell better. With payouts as high as 60k per 100gil bet, that's some major cash waiting to be made. And I'm sure the trainers themselves will get their own shares of cash and fame once they start winning the real races.

Keep in mind that the major market for chocobo supplies is usually in bazaars and not typically in the AH.

True, but I've been mostly trying to sell by way of Bazaar and not having much luck. I've so far managed to sell one single Chocobo Taping on the Windurst AH, and two singles to someone who saw my Bazaar offer on ffxiah and wanted to experiment. This is over the course of over a month, though not of continuous Bazaaring-next-to-racetrack. I've also never even seen anyone else Bazaaring Chocobo Taping that I can recall.

NQ yield on these things is 3, BTW.

I'm probably better off waiting until I have gil to spare and crafting Hose to NPC, unless the demand picks up significantly.
