  • Learning Abilities w/o Sacrificing STR/END

Something I've just been wondering for a bit now as I've been trying different things with this second generation Chocobo.

This one, I've been lucky enough to have proper food and to be properly prepared in terms of having Gregarious Worms and such.

I messed up by accidentally leaving it's care plan on Basic Care for like a week and a half, so as opposed to my other chick who got her first Endurance upgrade at day 10, this one didn't come till like 18, lol...

Anyway, I'm currently on Day 23, and my male has substandard END & STR, and I've had him on the Carry Packages plan since adolescence, and one thing I realized is that I'd like, if possible, to teach him Gallop and hopefully Canter.

I intend to go the distance with this one's care plan, meaning ALL the days until retirement, so I was wondering about the possibility of not switching his care plan, but modifying it.

I'm thinking something along the lines of his Discernment and Receptivity not being able to go into the negative numbers, meaning that the Strength-focused care plans haven't really affected him worse than when he started out.

And with that in mind, I was wondering about the possibility of keeping him on this strict STR/END plan until he gets to be about Average, and then switching him to Basic Care for like 40 some odd days just so that dis DIS/REC would go up and his STR/END wouldn't suffer for it.

Would this be a feasible way to have Average stats in at least all 4 categories?

Also, if it is and say this works, would if be worth it in the time allowed? FFXIClopedia says that there is a small chance it would learn an ability, and after the work I'm thinking of doing, I don't want to end up with having time wasted on this Chocobo. I'm not only trying to get him to learn Gallop and possibly Canter, but also trying to get him to be exceptionally faster than rental Chocobos.

Or would it be better to just forget about abilities, and train it so that it ends up with First-Class STR/END anyway, making it faster via that method?

Anyone with a Higher-Tier STR/END Chocobo able to give insight on how long it took to reach that level and under what care plan?

After typing this post out and thinking about it, I'm considering keeping my course in getting WingedJustice to a high level.

It seems more beneficial to just breed a DIS/REC Chocobo to about AVG, teach it the ability (I know I can get Average in those two before day 30), and then switching up and giving THAT Chocobo the STR plan from then on.

    Edit:
    Oh snap!

Just looked at the care plan chart because I was trying to find something that would raise Discernment but not sacrifice STR (who cares about END? I can just recall the Chocobo, lol...).

Delivering Messages raises STR by a value of 8 a day and doesn't drop anything other than Affection, while Digging for Treasure raises Discernment by 8 and drops Endurance by a value of 6.

Also, the chart states that Carrying Packages raises STR/END by a value of 5 but lowers DIS/REC by a value of 4; while interacting with Children drops STR/END by a value of 4 (meaning that I still have a net gain of +1) while raising DIS by 5%

Would this be even worth it, or would I be better just keeping it on the STR/ENG diet for now and just switching the care plan to a few days of Delivering Messages, a few days of Digging for treasure and a few days of Basic Care upon him reaching adulthood?

Re: Learning Abilities w/o Sacrificing STR/END

i got impressive str and better than average end on my red male at day 31 today. i am also breeding another red who knows abilitys and is better than average on both mental, day 31. unfortunatly their both male.. but not to worry i found 2 seperet Fs to breed them to. when the chicks are born.. one is gonna know abilitys and be mental and the other is physical.. i hope to god i dont get the same gender again. cause i doubt SE allows gay chocobos :/.. then when they both grow up, i will breed them.. and then look at the egg to see if it inherited the selected abilitys ^^
    sigpic Chocobo! .-. :D

Just one point, delivering messages lowers Receptivity.

As interesting of an idea as that seems, it would NOT work out... well it would, but have fun comparing your chocobo to a Elvann WHM/BLM spamming Stone.

You may not realize this, but Outstanding STR and END = Rental Chocobo. Impressive is mabye 3-6% lower then a Rental. I would reccoment going full STR on your current chocobo, and hwen it hits Better then Average/Impressinve retire it. Find a mate with good STR also, or high DIC, and breed them. When you hatch your egg, focus on Dicernment(REP dosn't matter) and get Canter and Gallop as asoon as possible. Immediately after you achive these abilities, switch over to full-fledged Strength and Endurance. You should ebn able to achive First Class Strength, Endurance, and both Canter and Gallop before your chocobo is force retired.

If you are growing your own Chocobo food, use Ice Crystals. This nets you Zegham Carrots and Sharug Greens, good for training Dicernment.
