Has anyone tried breeding chocos for specific traits or strengths? I'm trying to breed a Black Choco and started with a Black female choco and a Yellow male choco with high strenth and endurance. I started the honeymoon for them earlier today and will hopefully putting the egg in the stables tomorrow to start that process. Any information would be helpful.

Re: Choco Breeding
I found a Red male I bred with my yellow female a while ago for 2 eggs. I chose the plan that "have higher chance that the father's trait may carry over."
1 egg went to my main, and now it's adolescent with Red tail. I'm hoping it will grow into a red adult.
The other egg end up having white tail.
I don't think the strength/endurance or any status will carry over. Still under debate however that the chick may be more "tuned" to certain status from their parents. Like, if the parents have high physical status, the chick may have faster time developing physical stats. Again, just what people are talking about. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Re: Choco Breeding
If you breed cards of chocos with abilities sometimes the chick will carry over the ability. It's all still experimentation, but if one chooses the honeymoon plan that strives for a M and the M is the choco with the abilities then that increases the chance that the ability will carry over as well it seems. That is the only way to get a STR/END choco w/abilities. STR/END/DIS/REC stats don't carry over but a chick bred with higher stats will attain STR/END/DIS/REC stats much faster.RDM58/WHM46/THF24/SMN22/RNG15/BLM17/WAR15/BLU8

Re: Choco Breeding
I bred the chocos using the dinner plan. Got the egg and it hatched yesterday. It was a female even though the plan said it was more likely to be a male. I'm going to set up the care schedule for Strength and Endurance. I have her going for walks in town for now and I will be feeding her carrot paste and whatever greens raise affection until she is a teen then it will be Vomp Carrots and the same greens into adulthood. I will continue the strengh and endurance care schedule until she is forced to retire and see if I can get her to be fast and Black is the main thing I'm going for. I'll keep you up dated as I go.
If you have suggestions as to which greens raise affection let me know. I believe it is Azouph Greens, but I'm not positive.

Re: Choco Breeding
I have a stable of 4 chocobos, but I haven't got to successive generations. It will be 2-4 months before I have any significant data to report on the inheritance of abilities and or statistical affinities for 2nd and higher generation chocobos. Someone who started a stable post-chocopatch after release would get this data the soonest. The problem with collecting these statistics is that you need a line of children with the same parents to get any good statistics. Optimally, you'd want to have a line of 100 children to get a very solid distribution, but I think for our purposes a variance of 2% (50 sample) or 5% (20 sample) would be very good. I would like a 20 sample line if my LS is willing to cooperate in raising free red chocobos, and they seem interested in free colored chocobos as most anyone would be.

Re: Choco Breeding
The first time I checked her stats (right after she hatched) everything was poor (to be expected), she was completely full, likes clear days, liked being around me and had a nice personality.
When I checked on her the next day she had a stomach ache (gave Garidav green for that), everything was still poor, she was completely full before and after the one green, likes clear days and being around me, and was not ill-tempered and suited for military use.
Everyone that I have spoken with on Midgardsormr that has a Black Choco says that their Chocos were ill-tempered and suited for military use. So I'm thinking that she is going to end up being Black. I really hope so.

Re: Choco Breeding
Greens that raise affection: Gyshal
Greens that raise affection & dis/rec: Azouph
Greens that raise affection & str/end: Sharug
But while your choco is still in chick phase for affection feed vegetable paste. Vegetable paste is "easier to digest" and is better for raising chick stats/affection. I have personally had chocos lose stats when using carrot paste. I guess I don't understand it yet but it isn't worth it to me to use it because the stats are more important. I have had chocos lost str/end & disc stats by carrot paste and I've read other account of this happening with all stats including recep. So I don't know if you can only use it when the chick is perky/upbeat? Not sure... but like I said.. I'm not willing to lose my stats testing it.RDM58/WHM46/THF24/SMN22/RNG15/BLM17/WAR15/BLU8

Re: Choco Breeding
Both my birds (one main and one mule) have been fed carrots and greens from hatching based on the stats I wanted to increase.
I thought the azouph and Sharug greens were reversed on the stats they raise
will have to research that more or if you can provide the link to where its been stated elsewhere.
Main - Steady diet of vomp carrots and azouph greens - day 23 has avg str and end (this bird is 3rd generation chocobo)
Dame - had above avg str and end (yellow) 2nd gen
Sire - had a bit deficient str (black) First gen (friends chocobo)
Mule - Steady diet of zegham carrots and sharug greens - day 24 has a bit deficient disc and rec and is a first generation chocobo from egg bought in Jeuno. The probability of someone watching you is proportional to the stupidity of your action.

Re: Choco Breeding
Ok... I went back to Alla which is where I had come across that information as far as the greens. There are about 40 pages on the thread and it took me FOREVER lol to go through them. I couldn't find the particular information and after scanning all the info and specifically looking for sharug/azouph info I came to new conclusions lol,.. dontcha' love it. My Disc/Recep chocos all prefer Azouph *gobble* and only *eat* Sharug. My Str/End chocos all prefer Sharug *gobble* and only *eat* Azouph. I already knew that different chocos prefered different greens and because it does affect affection it is always best to feed them what they like. Maybe it isn't always Disc/Recep chocos that prefer Azouph but as far as the chocos I have raised that is my consensus. Here is some quotes from Alla I ran accross along the way. The info leads me to believe that all chocos simply prefer one green to another.

Vegetables
Raise affection, and satisfy hunger- Bunches of Gysahl Greens
- Bunches of Sharug Greens
- Bunches of Azouph Greens
They are my chicks favorite food! The azouph greens fill it up faster than the other greens or veggie paste do too.
The info SE gives out says that the greens effect mental attributes. That means they are good if you are planning on having a digger.
LILTWYLITE:
The only food she's done anything but just eat is the Azouph greens which she gobbled up. I'm mostly going for a digger.
ALASEN:
Azouph are sour and Sharug are sweet.
Also my chcobo has been "patient and good for carrying packages" since the 2nd day I started feeding it Azouph greens (eats in a single gulp). I've fed it nothing but Azouph since day 13 or so and it hasn't changed once. So I'm making a tentative guess that some foods have an effect on personality.
RISAE:
Something else possibly helpful is that both Chocobos were also fed Sharug Greens, and they both now have Substandard Receptivity.
PAULATREIDES:
Mine is still developing, i had it on exhibition and as usual it really played the crowd. He got his usual Zegham Carrot and one Azouph green and his Discernment went up do "a bit deficient".
KRIPTEX:
Gysahl Greens: Moderate Fill, Moderate Affection
Sharug Greens: Little Fill, High Affecction
Azouph Greens: High Fill, Little Affection
RISAE:
Someone previously put their ideas about Greens. Sharug = high affection, fills little. Gysahl = medium affection, fills more, Azouph = same as Sharug(?), fills twice as much as Gysahl. That's my data. I'm largely confident in this particular analysis.
Seems that Sharug is 'obviously' superior, but the other options both have reasons for being there from a design standpoint. Gysahl is always available. Non-gardeners will need it. Azouph may be there for those who don't have time or gil to get tons of Sharug, since obviously a stack of Azouph could last one chocobo nearly two weeks if you throw in a few Gysahl, but a stack of Sharug is gone in 3 days or so. One might say 'why bother when there is Gysahl', but I find that SE is odd and doesn't really mind putting 'useless' things into Gardening results. They let us grow the same Gysahl, after all. One would assume we would NEVER need to do that. And we do grow far more Sharug than Gysahl.
CRAZEDZIFNAB:
For me, the Sharug greens dont really increase affection that much, would take 2 to equal how much a gysahl increased, so I switched to gysahl.
PUNKNEVER:
I've been raising a mule on az. greens and she has standard rec. and dec., of course that's what I wanted for my main ><
PDRAGONFLY:
I have mine on carrying packages and so its affection goes down each day.
However, I give it shraug greens as well as watch over it and the affection goes up to parent.
HEPZIBAH:
I fed him 5 sharug greens the 2nd day of lovesickness & he was healed the next day. A few days later he came down lovesick again & I immediately fed 4 sharugs & a cupid worm I grew & next day he was healed!
___________
But I believe Pyxix put it best....
PYXIX:
Each chocobo favors one type of food over another. Feeding it a certain type of food can raise its affection. For example: I feed my chocobo a combination of Vomp Carrots and Azouph Greens. For both types of food, my chocobo "gobbles up the Vomp carrot", or "gobbles up the Azouph Greens". If I feed it a Sharug Green or Zhegam Carrot my chocobo "munches on the Sharug Green contentedly" or "munches on the Zhegam Carrot contentedly". If I feed it any other green or carrot it just says "your chocobo eats the ::said item::". I have never fed my chocobo worms, but I am sure its just about the same. I believe that depending on what your chocobo favors for food, you can either raise or lower it's affection. You can tell what your chocobo favors by checking how your chocobo eats each item. I suggest you try feeding your chocobo different items and find one that says "Your chocobo "gobbles up the ::said item::" Good luck!
And with that being said..... I have not proved what I had posted previously I have simply added to the madness lol... *long post i apologize* but it's a sampling of what others have to say about it considering it's all about experimentation and research...

Re: Choco Breeding
My physical Chocobos both gobbled Azouph and ate Sharug. There might not be a magic formula for determining green preference. I say just feed the one your choc likes more. As for a green raising a stat... I've never seen a stat rise from green feeding. I have personally seen a stat rise from carrots, however.

Re: Choco Breeding
I believe their current status is what affects personality. It's a reflection of their strength more than anything. Every chocobo I raised, I always feed azoup greens for the first couple days until they reach parental affection. And their personality always turn out according to the care plan I choose for them. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Re: Choco Breeding
My chocobo used to "gobble" Vomp Carrots, but at some point changed to "munches contentedly". Her attributes have always been Poor.
Eating habits that haven't changed:
Zegham - munches contentedly
Sandy Carrots - gobbles
Sharug - eats
Gysahl - munches contentedly
Azouph - gobbles
Garidav, Tokopekko, Gausbit - eats
(yes, I made her eat some of these when she had no bad status effects)
Although I have no proof, my gut instinct is that she was supposed to be a DIS/REC chocobo, which is a shame since I kind of wanted a STR/END one. Oh well, she's been a guinea pig since she was a baby. They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Re: Choco Breeding
I think it's interesting that a chocobo's food preferences might be indicative of it's statistical affinities.
It is unfortunately difficult to tell exactly how good an individual chocobos growth rates are and, since stat growth are inherently mutually exclusive, it's even more difficult to say for sure. Perhaps this is yet another superstitious wive's tale with or without truth behind it conconcted by SE to confound players...
