Stats affecting physical appearance

I noticed this last night when my 2nd generation bird became an adolescent.

Her STR is substandard and END is a bit deficient. I noticed her legs looked thicker and somewhat disportionate to her body. Not overly so but she did win her first race against the other chocobo by a wide margin.

Has anyone else noticed this in raising their birds since the update? Just wondering.

Well, mine isn't up to adolescent yet, so I can't verify it with ingame observations. That said, in the last update when they improved the rate at which chicks gain stats, they did also say they were adjusting the way the two types of chocobos (Physical v. Mental builds), were going to look. I assumed this was just adding in the huge honking beaks we saw on some of the .dat mining pictures for Mental birdies, but I guess Physical birds got an upgrade too.

Yeah, the birds features all change depending on what your stats are at. The beaks reshape and get thicker if you have higher Disscernment, supposedly the wings and taill change too with High Receptivity. I guess the leg thickness is a result of the high Endurance. Not sure what changes with high strength though. All I can guess is maybe the body frame?

Seems a bit wierd though would think body frame would change from Endurance and Legs change from Strength.

My friend's chocobo that was raised after the update seems to have thicker legs than my first generation chocobo, but the most noticable difference is that he has large, curved talons compared to my small, relatively flat ones. I think the talons may be a sign of high strength. He is an ill-tempered military chocobo.

I'm looking forward to raising another chocobo with the appearance changes implemented, but I really want to get mine Bore or at least better than average discernment before I retire him.

From what I've been reading (and some have provided screenshots)...

Strength = type of legs
Endurance = type of tail (higher Endurance means more plumage)
Discernment = type of beak

Receptivity is the odd man out it seems.

The NPCs do mention that the saddle can change too. Maybe that's the feature that's tied to receptivity.

I thought that was just fluff speech to "explain" why we needed to re-register the chocobo when the attributes changed. ^^

I thought that at first, but there are actually like 3 or 4 different saddles.

Though the decernment equalling more plumage doesn't fit. Animals (Birds in particular) built to take more punishment don't have large plumage. The animals that generally have large plumage are the pampered ones that are targeting for show, since show is associated with Receptivity in the game I would of guessed the larger plumage to be tied to that.

Since I forgot about the saddles actually looking different then my guess on the stats and apperance would be:

Strength = Legs and Tallons
Endurance = Different saddle
Discernment = Beak
Receptivity = Feathers

Then again saddles for horses have two major different types. One focused for heavy work and one designed for more dressage, so Endurance and Receptivity being Feathers or Saddle is a kind of toss up there.... Now that I think about it more.

My chobi has capped receptivity and am Hoping to see more than just a Feather change, i want a blue one. I actually gave up on this second one for a bit, but am back to raising it hoping for a change.

My chocobo has "better than average" strength and end.

I can't really say much about her leg size, but she definately has something going on with her tail feathers. There is at least an extra row of feathers on top, and another row underneathe the last row...

How big is her tail going to get @.@??

My Chocobo has better than average strength & endurance, too (age 35). It has large legs and extra tail feathers.

Hmm can't wait to see how my girl, CrystalMirage, will look. Today is day 29 and she should become an adult!

I did notice her limping during a long walk so I fed her gausebit grass hoping to prevent a day of injury. I could have been my imagination but her walk looked like a limp.

We shall see.

The chocobos I've met on walks from Bastok and Windy had large, hooked beaks and much more plumage on their head than usual. I'm guessing the extra feathers on the head are from receptivity. Unfortunately I don't like the way the high stat versions of the beak and head look at all. >_>
