According to the wiki's guide to chocobo raising, it'll also drop discernment in addition to raising affection. I guess if your chocobo isn't going to learn any abilities, you'd probably be ok with that.

For a physical chocobo, Discernment isn't such an issue, since the physical care plans will basically negate your mental stats anyway. The worm will also restore a small amount of energy. I do not know the side effects of improper feeding time, however.

Greg worm says it "restores energy" does that mean it won't help with stat growth?

Depends on how much the remaining energy from the day previous affects the stat growth of today's Care Plan. In and of itself, the worm just provides a small boost of energy that lets you walk, compete, or watch over the chick more. These all raise affection, which has an impact on the success or failure of a Care Plan on stats. I don't know as yet if the amount of energy you save from one day to the next has an effect on the stats going up or down the next day, though. If it does, then this worm will help with stat raising directly, rather than just helping to raise affection, which would then help to raise stats.

An added bonus for the Greg, additional care plan time can also be used to pound stories into your chocobo's head to try to get the requiste trait. It may do other things as well. Most food effects are only known in a very sketchy way at the moment especially with respect to affection. Who knows... The Gregarious Worm might help with Endurance, or it might decrease something... All things Chocobo are currently in an experimental rather than methodical phase.

                Here are the stories:

                Impatient - Gallop
Youthful - Bore (This is for digging not putting people to sleep. ^^)
                Worrysome - Burrow
                Happy - Auto-Regen
                Curious - Canter

I don't know what any of the abilities actually do specifically; I do not know what the difference between Bore and Burrow is, nor the difference in effects between Canter and Gallop (generally a Canter is slower than a Gallop but it's confusing how this is supposed to work).

                [EDIT: Add]
I should also mention that the high-energy draining careplans such as Deliver Messages (Strength), Dig for Treasure (Discernment), and Act in a Play (Receptivity) will drain enough of your chocobo's initial daily allotment of energy that you cannot through feeding and care raise it back to the level it was at the day before. Gregarious Worms and Chocolixirs should be useful in allowing you to prolong your direct care plan and maintain Parent level affection while continually using these high-energy care plans though the expense to you will likely be very large and any adverse effects of Gregarious Worms are not currently known. They also take up a food slot which might stop you from using feed to raise affection. This is likely to be a very cost-prohibitive cycle of care.

I'm glad someone else thought of this when they first saw that ability. I was starting to think maybe I was losing my mind. Ok, yeah, START is probably the wrong term here.... losing it more than usual.

I do pure Carry Packages care plan, and I can care for the chocobo enough so the affection decrease don't hurt too much. I feed it a worm every once in a while to raise affection and I havn't had any negative feedback yet.

I was referring to the effects of the High Energy Care Plans. Carry Packages is a medium energy care plan (it takes around 10%...No Windower, so I'm not sure of actual %). A High Energy Care Plan as mentioned above will take something like 25%-33% of your Chocobo's starting energy which, generally, cannot be recovered by feeding/walking.

I don't think windower displays chocobo health percentage there.

Oh... I'll have to use the old-fashioned pixel-width method with screenies then...
