My chocobo has been an adult for about 4 days now. The first day, he was sleeping so I couldn't take him for a walk to find his hidden item. The other three days I've searched and searched and found nothing. I guess my chocobo is a master digger, because I'm putting pretty big holes in Ronfaure, La Theine, and Jugner Forest trying to dig up his hidden item.

Did anyone else have this problem? I mean damn, I'm getting kind of impatient here - I want to ride my own chocobo. :/

Wait, huh? Are you digging on a rental chocobo in those areas trying to dig up the item?

Edit: Ok, sorry my reading comprehension sucks lately, apparently. Have you searched for the item at least one time in each zone while your chocobo was "competely absorbed in its activities"? If you've searched while it was "absorbed" on short, medium and long walks and didn't find the item, this would be the first time I've heard of it happening.

I did this last night, and found it the first time on the long walk to Jugner Forest. Like Task said, I searched while my chocobo was "absorbed".

It is pretty random. I would take my chocobo on walks with the "Quest" active and the first time, it was happy (No search). The next several walks (In different zones) it became absorbed, but no luck finding it.

Personally, I could never take my chocobo on more than 2 walks a day (Any combination), so this made it take around 3 days to actually find the item. It seems to change location every day.

Well at least I know it's not just my stubborn chocobo who doesn't want the item to be found.

Do you have parent level affection yet? I understand that helps with the quest. I guess it would make your birdy trust you enough to take his eyes off you long enough to do the search. If he's been asleep a few days, your affection probably went down, (scolding him awake probably didn't help), so that might be the block.

He regards me as his parent, which I thought was the highest level anyway. It's not that he is catching me looking, it's that "There is nothing of particular interest here."

And as of today, still no whistle.

My chocobo refuses to hook me up with a whistle. I've responded by completely ignoring her and leaving her on the Basic Care plan for weeks. She'll cough a whistle up eventually.

I finally got that stupid handkerchief. Now to get my butt to Jeuno so I can actually ride my birdy, but that can wait. I'm just glad I actually got the item finally.

oh damn, my choco is almost hatched, so I have to search those massive areas for a buried item when it gets to adult? omfg I don't like the sound of that

No, it just happens when you take your chocobo on a walk, during the cutscene. It just took forever because my chocobo is a stubborn bastard. :/ You don't literally have to dig for it.

as long as it's a cut scene then I don't mind. I'm gonna focus on my chocobos affection and strength
