When we watch over it, our bird lets us know what his mood is. Competeing will get rid of the boredom. It will s how up the next day.

On the same note, the Gamewatch article, even with its wacky translation, had an interesting section on competing and the triple effect it has on the bird. You might want to check it out. I'm still sifting through it and finding useful information.

      Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo

      So I just read:
Affection: The most important part of chocobo raising. Greatly affects the success of care plans.
And then I looked at how carrying packages and delivering messages greating increase what I'm seeking to target, but they also greatly reduce affection.

Now even if I do this, they can be counter-acted by simply feeding them the right food daily?

        Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo

Feeding them increases affection, some foods more than others, and personal care also increases affection. Long walks are good affection maintainence, and the standard "watch over" option is good for squeezing in a little if you're low on energy. Competing seems to be a gamble of affection. I'm sure I've seen affection jump up a level after winning, but I think I've also seen it drop after a loss.

There's an extra benefit to competition. If you win I think like 3-5 times or something you get a new story to tell your chocobo though I don't remember which one off hand.

Its the third time after competition that you receive a story. But what I was referring to was in addition to that.

Here's a small quote from the article, which because of translation imperfections leaves a lot to the imagination:

. When it does, 3 human groups of the kind of fume you have seen somewhere appear, you say that they and grow [chiyokobo] and allot the spiritual aspect, the intelligent aspect and the physical strength aspect with 3 people.

              Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo

day 8. VCS said she's highly receptive to stuff I give her, but worms cost too much, lol...

My harvest was ok. No carrots, but a bunch of greens and a BUNCH of crystals. /fume

Anyway, I walked her 3 times and watched over her until she was tired. It said that she's in high-spirits.

All stats still poor, I'm regarded as a parent, she's received plenty of affection and is "extremely happy" and is in "excellent condition"

I overfed her again, but that was by accident since I didn't read her status after I fed the first Az Green. >_>

1 Carrot Paste and 2 Az greens today, but she was registered as starving, so I guess she likes them enough where only 2 "meals" fill her up. On Az greens she gobles in one bite.

Anyway, if I have anymore questions, I'll post them here. I learn more each day! Keep the comments coming!

                Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo

I think that quote is referring to the fact that three guys are raising the chocobo you compete against, one concentrating on each aspect of the chocobo's development.

The story you get from racing is Story of a Happy Chocobo, which gives Auto-Regen.

                    Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo

I figure it's about time I reply to this thread, since I, too, am working on breeding a speedy chocobo. I really want a green Jennet, but we'll see how that goes. At the very least I want a reliable mount. My first choco was a horrible failure (attempt at discernment/endurance).

RisingFog is 9 days old today. I've kept him on a steady diet of Carrot Paste, supplementing with Sharug Greens. His response to the carrots and the greens is "eats," and most days the trainer will say "I hope we can make this animal into a fine chocobo." Contrary to what a previous poster said, my trainer does not always say this, but most times she does. I am a little concerned that he doesn't seem to appreciate the food, but perhaps that will change with time...I've got the appropriate personality already: On day 7, he recieved the personality "ill-tempered and well suited for military use."

All of RisingFogs stats are still poor. As far as care plans go, I have been doing Walk in Town for three days, then Rest for one. I'd like some advice on whether Rest is even necessary, seeing as it wastes a day. For personal care, I take Rising Fog on three Short Walks each day, and then Watch Over him x5. His affection level is currently 'likes me a lot."

I'm on day 9 with my second choco, and I have not gotten the hanky quest yet. I was worried, but your theory makes sense.

Regarding the Story of a Happy Chocobo, I recieved that story from Brutus the first time I took my previous choco on a Long Walk to Meriphataud Mountains. It didn't seem to have anything to do with racing, seeing as my choco had been losing almost every time. He never did learn the Regen ability either.

My chocobo is located in Bastok. It probably has something to do with your position how the stories work out. Hantelion gives a story on Regular Walk (Impatient), Zopago gives a story on Short Walk (Worrisome), and the 3 Racers give a story after winning x 3 (Happy).

I just got Happy today... SolarWind was itching for a race.

With respect to resting, I know this is a long thread but there's a lot of good questions and info in it. You shouldn't need to rest your chocobo and if fed and cared for properly should be perfectly energetic and will soon achieve "Parent" affection.

                        Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo

After my chocobo was bored yesterday, I took him to 1 medium walk and then a race. And spend the remaining health to watch over him. He still had quite a lot of health before I feed him a Azouph and Vomp to full. He weakly munched them both but I thought that was because of the boredom.

Today I went back to him and he's sick...

Eh.. I'm betting it's random. I had Injured/Sick/Bored on three consecutive days with Duchesse. It's just bad luck. Bored gives you an excuse to race, and you can still do care plans with a sick chocobo.

Hi, must be, cause I'm in Sandy and got the Impatient story on the Short walk with Hantelion, which is great cause as soon as I can start telling it stories, I'm gonna keep at it until it learns gallop.

Rest plan only restores energy bar.
I've been alternating Walk in town with Basic care. So far this seems to help, my Endur is at substandard, and I'm still at parent status, very patient, good for carrying packages, seems extremently happy and in excellent condition.

On my day nine, he was perky and I fed him a gregar worm. Since then he's gotten perky 2 other times. (day 12 and day 15).

P.S. I waited until all my stats were at "10" (giving one point for each small up arrow).
My strategy is to make sure that basic care keeps the Discern and Recept at "10" points.
Watching over to maintain affection status, with shraugs fed every other day (in place of a carrot paste).

Of course its all experiemental, who knows what good this will do.

                                Day 9 Update

                                All stats poor
Affection, I'm regarded as a parent
First visible change:"It is a very patient chocobo, making it ideal for carrying goods."

Now, what I recall seeing someone mention above that their chocobo dropped a package because it lost patience. With what I'm doing, do I sustain that to keep it's patience high? I've been having it take a walk daily and I take it for short walks, so what does all this mean!?!?

Anyway, took it on 3 walks.

Message when I looked over it: "RedVelvet looks happy to see you." /buttwaggle
Looked over it 8 times since I had nothing else to do, then fed it.

Gobbled Az Greens in a single gulp, and VCS guy hopes we can make her into a fine chocobo. Said the same thing when I gave her a ball of carrot paste, but she neither likes that or dislike's that, it seems.

What can I expect for tomorrow, regarding cutscenes or w/e?
