  • Evidence of "natural" tendencies?

Just for those who are taking note of this sort of thing...

My choco HurricaneJack is about 25 days old now.

He's a plain old yellow choco.

Since he's been born i've been feeding him just on gyshal greens (which according to popular belief don't enhance any stat particularly) apart from when he was ill, when i switched to Tokopekko grass. Yeah i'm cheap.

I've dabbled in a few things, taken him for walks (trying to get stories) mostly. Used the general chitchat story once.
I've not wanted any sort of choco in particular. I just wanted to raise one, not to have a specialist in anything. Just a bit of an allrounder.
I've not used any care plans until it was an adolesent. Just the care i can give it myself, each day i've attended it (not every day, approx every other day) i've used up most of it's energy (like i say mostly walks and watching over) then fed it back to full, so the next day it would have full energy).

In taking for walks i unlocked the "compete with others".

Now this is where it gets interesting. He seems quite good at racing from the get go. Bearing in mind i've never fed him anything other than gyshal and tokopekko grass. I've not done much other than take for walks, and i've not used any care plans.
But he won his first 5 races against the three breeders choco. he then lost one and won his 7th. Now i know theres gonna be a random element to these things but from what i've read i've not seen anyone else get so many wins.

It seems he has a natural tendency for strength, even though i've done little to enhance this.

The egg was a bit warm, and i live (and am raising my choco in) windy.

From now on i will be raising him towards strength seen as though thats what he seems geared towards (he's also getting bored and the trainer suggested i race him) maybe it'll be too late to get a great racer out him, maybe not, we'll see.

Not saying this is proof of anything, but it's certainly supporting evidence that chocos have natural genetic, tendancies and even if you raise it towards one thing it could still be destined for another, and the only way to get a truely great choco at something is to have the right genetic setup and raise it geared towards that aspect.

Yeah, re-reading past info about the chocobos. I am kind of starting to think that the egg warmth suggests it's breed. I mean there are 5 chocobo breeds and 5 eggs, not only that if you read the description about the chocobo's all the color ones indicate that they come in Yellow and the other color.

So what I'm guessing is the eggs probably work as follows:

    Faintly (Black suggestive) = Yellow(50%) Red(5%) Blue(5%) Green(5%) Black(35%)
    Slightly (Blue suggestive) = Yellow(50%) Red(5%) Blue(35%) Green(5%) Black(5%)
    A bit (Green suggestive) = Yellow(50%) Red(5%) Blue(5%) Green(35%) Black(5%)
    A little (Red suggestive) = Yellow(50%) Red(35%) Blue(5%) Green(5%) Black(5%)
    Somewhat (Yellow suggestive) = Yellow(88%) Red(3%) Blue(3%) Green(3%) Black(3%)

Though the Yellow suggestive must also have some better stats that when breed with the other colored ones the off-spring will be stronger in the stats. Then also since durability has no care plan to improve it specifically in the adult stage, perhaps the yellow suggestive ones come with higher durability then others do.

Well the only race my Choco lost, and he races a lot because he always wants to race, was when he had less then 50% HP. I think that might have more to do with his victory then anything else. My bird doesn't have any 'real' personality, but he's often restless and 'wants to compete'. His stats were all 'poor' until the other day when he finished a 'excersise alone' session pushing his Strength to 'Substandard'.

I've been mainly feeding him Vomp Carrots and a few Gyshals when I was feeling cheap.

        Re: Evidence of "natural" tendencies?

Yesterday, I decided I would no longer fight against what I now percieve to be my choco's nature. It's day 33 and all his stats are poor. I was under the impression that my choice of care plan would increase MomoDance's attributes, but I've come to realize that the choco's individual inclination might have a greater influence than I previously thought.
Since Momo reached adolescence, I have been trying to train him to be my steed. I've done only care plans that emphasize physical training (with the occasional rest day). I've fed him numerous Vomp Carrots. This plan has obviously not been successful.

I know two things about Momo: his personality is enigmatic (obtained on day 13), and he has sturdy legs (told to me by trainer on day 29). So, I've given up my dream of having a noble steed and instead, I'm going to work on a nerdy choco. ^^

His care plans will now consist of playing with chocos, listening to music, playing with children, and exhibiting to the public. I hope to god that I start to see some sort of attribute improvement. I am beginning to get very frustrated, and I am seriously thinking of retiring my beloved Momo and starting over. But, I don't want to simply give up before I understand how personality and breed affect training. I will update you all if I see any changes with this new care approach.

I'm going for Nerdy Also and am Hoping for A blue Using a formula I've devised.

That egg warmth thing I'm hoping isn't 100% correct, As I'm trying to get a Blue chicken, Since they are breed for heat. A Bit Warm Egg seemed logical to me.
So i'll stick with it and see what happens.

            Re: Evidence of "natural" tendencies?

I have noticed something else about chocobos natural tendencies. I have been raising my chocobo for strength and endurance. I feed him vomp carrots for strength and azomph greens for affection (since many of the care plans I use have a negative effect on affection in return for strength and endurance). This seems to be a good plan because since day 21 I have had "A Bit Deficient" Strength, "Substandard" Endurance, and "Poor" everything else.

My point is, whenever I try to do a non strength oriented care plan, my chocobo inevitably gets sick or restless the next day. He seems to hate listening to music, playing with children, etc. This may be a good way to discover what your chocobo is inclinded to excel at.

Nah, that info posted was mearly an example. Not enough data yet to get an accurate say not to mention it would seem that the breeding would have to have some bonus effect on the egg too that's undetermined.

The first day I switched care plans to focus on mental attributes, my choco was irritated and bored. I let him compete, hoping this was just coincidence. The second day, he got sick. I fed him two tokopekko wildgrasses, like I usually do when he is ill. The next day, he was still sick! Every previous time Momo has been sick, it takes two grasses to get him well, and it only takes one day. So, I fed him one more tokopekko, and I will be checking on him to day to see if he's any better. The care plan I was using was "Play with Chocobos." Today his plan will be "Listen to Music." Do you think his irritated and sickly state is an indication that he does not like the mental training plans? I was having no luck with physical plans raising his stats, so now I am so confused. His personality is enigmatic (as I've stated before), and I am clueless as to what this means as far as attribute inclination/strength. Does anyone else have a choco with that personality? And what training do you use?

It's pretty obvious they have a predisposition towards certain activities as well as strengths and weaknesses. It'd probably be best if right out of the egg you figure it out as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately RIGHT out of the egg it's still set to basic care, but in the next two days I'll be able to tell what my chocobo has more interest in.

Personally I'm interested in Strength and Endurance, though I could see an excellent digging chocobo's ticket being sold for a heafty amount.
