wow I think I just figured this out: If a chocobo falls asleep and the whole sleeping bug isn't true and it's because energy is not the health bar and energy is being pulled over from the previous day, the chocobos are falling asleep because of the energy loss. The chocobo may or may not wake up the next day because the chocobo is regaining energy. As said before, care plans might fail because of the lack of energy. So based on this, wouldn't the chocobo wake up after all the plans after the current plan are set to rest, the chocobo should get this amount of energy back without interruptions, thus waking up.

I'm not sure this would work though.

I also think that there might be 2 bars that tell how much energy is left. The health bar is proboly the amount of energy used THAT DAY, while there is another bar in the programming that tells the TOTAL amount of energy used. After every rest, the total energy used is refilled again and the chocobo is ready to undertake more challenges. If the total energy bar is depleated, the chocob will fall asleep and thus starting the so called "sleep bug".

Umm, one of the things I've said before. Just some reason people seem to think that SE wouldn't do that. Yet SE has proven they'd do such a thing with Evasion and other stats in the game already. Just wear Empress Hairpin no change to Evasion skill but then go do another +evasion item and it does change Evasion skill.

Yet, in testing both do show that evasion is getting bonuses. So how come they can't comprehend this happening with that bar and it's not the same energy one that the care plan uses I don't know.

If anything how fast your stamina bar degrades when do stuff is probably the only indicator your chocobo is tired. I mean if stamina drains after 1 walk it could be to having very low energy to do the walk.

So I'm guessing that a way to avoid this would be to rest after anything that would lower energy. Oh and yes I was reffering to you

That's one of the logic I have to it. It fits because of accounts were people said they set the chocobo to Rest at times were it would make sence they wouldn't need it and yet the chocobo was wide awake. It fits the accounts were people never put rest in the plan but end up sleeping anyways.

It fits the ones were people are pushing them to walk around a town (3-4 zones), when our own care options only allow us to walk him through 1 zone. I mean chocobo chick has to get exhausted after something like that, especially if you pushed it to early. Do that in real life and it creates health problems.

As I see it SE wanted this to be a pet sim like mini-game. Pet Sim games always have options to intentionally stumble the inpatient that pushes their pet to hard to be the best, they also throw in disciplinary acts that you have to recognize when the pet is behaving badly and correct them. Over use causes negative effects and under use causes negative effects.

I have an idea to test this. After you take your chocobo out on a walk when it's health bar is full, what's the percent of health the bar is brought down to? My chocobo gos down to 75% energy.. and I'm not sure if that's what it's supposed to be at, or higher.

Yeah Im beginign to think its not a bug as well after a review of certain things I never notice nor were brought ot my attention{I.E. The "Current Plan" indicator at the top of the care setup page}.

Vaigrant, has your chocobo woken up yet? If so, did your trainer say something like "Your chocobo is waking up every morning now"?

Macht, when you use Rest, how is it implemented? Is the chocobo unable to be fed the day Rest is the Current Plan or the day after?

Done the Rest one twice now. When the plan first starts, meaning current plan just changed to Rest I'm able to feed and everything like normal. Once that phase starts (Day has passed and get Rest cutscene), then I can only watch over him.

First time I set my chocobo to Rest it went exactly with the Care Plan no problem. The second time now though it didn't I slept through 1 day of when it was suppose to walk around town. Then also after that walk around town event had occured another cutscene did occure while I was watching over it, basically got the cutscene saying the chocobo woke up.

I still can't see this as entirely a bug, it seems how and when the chocobo wakes up is a direct responce to how it's treated. As I'm seeing it the Rest plan works very different then the rest. It seems that the Rest plan once used the chocobo remains at rest till you've checked in on it enough times, don't have to watch over the chocobo just mearly get into talk to the trainer enough times and asking about it's stats.

The wake cutscene didn't occure in the beginning when you first talk to the trainer it actually occured right in the middle of me messing around with the menus. Right after asking how the chocobo is doing, looking around at the options to do short walk and watch over. As I backed out of that section the cutscene just suddenly kicked in. The behavior of the system seems greatly focused around the chocobo, he ultimatly can change your outcome.

So if someone has a lazy chocobo it is likely to sleep long periods on them. I just can't see this as a bug though because I've had days were only 1 cutscene triggers and that's it and days were I've had up to 6 cutscenes trigger. Some of the cutscenes triggering while I'm just messing around in the menu selection for the chocobo talking about something the chocobo just did.

                  EDIT:

To add though I do often hang around the chocobo stables in those menus for like 1-2 hrs sometimes, and it's those times were I've had those random cutscenes.

The chocobo is awake when it's supposed to be resting? To me at least, that doesn't seem appropriate.

I still can't see this as entirely a bug, it seems how and when the chocobo wakes up is a direct responce to how it's treated. As I'm seeing it the Rest plan works very different then the rest.

I'm not convinced it was your checking conditions that "woke" your chocobo up. I've seen several "solutions" each of which only worked for some of the chocobos. The most bizarre method I've seen is "set all 4 plans to Basic Care (1 day) and the chocobo will wake up in 2 days" (which actually worked for some people).

The wake cutscene didn't occure in the beginning when you first talk to the trainer it actually occured right in the middle of me messing around with the menus. Now *this* is interesting. Some players mentioned the chocobo "waking up in the middle of the day" but didn't give any details as to how or when this happened.

So if someone has a lazy chocobo it is likely to sleep long periods on them. I just can't see this as a bug though because I've had days were only 1 cutscene triggers and that's it and days were I've had up to 6 cutscenes trigger. When you get multiple cutscenes in one day, are they all different? Do they seem to occur at the beginning of the next Vana'diel day?

Thanks for testing Rest a little, but this still doesn't explain the cases where Rest was entered into a Care Plan and then removed before it was supposed to be executed. And so far, I have not heard of a single case where the chocobo, no matter how well or badly treated, it fell asleep completely on its own accord.

Vaigrant, good to hear your chocobo is awake now! If it's sick, give it an Herb Paste and it should be better the next RL day.

Two days ago I set my plan to rest for one day, because it was sick. When I check on my chocobo, it says my current plan is rest. The plan sheet says plan 0 (the one on the top) is listen to music, and the plan after that is basic care. She's a little hungry right now, and I'm getting worried. Her stamina bar hasn't changed a bit since I set it to rest. The NPC says that my chocobo is resting in order to recover from fatigue. Now, if that were really happening, why isn't my chocobo recovering, and why are my current and active plans contradicting each other?

I still say this is an error of some sort, there's no logical reason for SE to make a very common sleeping sickness that makes chocobo starve in their sleep and hate their owner if they sleep for too long. It's simply unfair to those whose chocobos end up staying asleep for 10+ days, and are forced to start over because their chocobo hates them. Why would they make resting something you almost have to avoid? Since when does raising animals involve keeping them from resting at all costs? None of it makes real sense, no matter how many statistics and cases you drag into it.

And aquarys, you sure know a lot about chocobos for someone whose main job is 20WHM/7WAR...(I'm sorry, that just fascinates me so).

Where did you originally set Rest (1 day)? Was it in Plan 0 or Plan 1? What was set in the other plans and for how many days each?

Does the NPC say that the chocobo is resting from fatigue when you check the condition? Or just after the daily report? Are your daily reports also for Rest?

Sorry I'm asking so many questions. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on so I can suggest a solution. You might want to check the chocobo's condition throughout the RL day (if you have that luxury) as Macht suggests to try to wake it up.

I set it for plan 0 three days ago, technically, however is has been sleeping for two. Yesterday plan 0 should have been (and still is) listen to music for one day, but it's still not awake.

I said before (I think) that the NPC said my chocobo was resting from fatigue, but my chocobo's stamina bar isn't changing. When I checked in today it said "Day 15 Plan: Rest" However my plan 0 for the past two days has been listen to music.

It's ok, I'd ask questions too if I knew what was going on Today I got mission 7-1 done so I didn't get the chance to check on it anymore. I'll try to check on it a few times in the afternoon tomorrow. Thanks

Is the stamina bar at or near 0? If so, I have a crazy notion. Set Plan 0 to Rest (1 day). Set Plan 1 to Basic Care (2 days should be sufficient). During these days, don't even watch over the chocobo because that will deplete energy. My idea is to try to regain some stamina with Rest and then see if your chocobo wakes up for Basic Care (since Basic Care requires the least amount of energy).

I read through most of this thread and it didn't seem to specifically apply to my situation, so I thought I'd share my story for others who might be experiencing the problem I had.

I set my chocobo to "take a walk in town" for apparently too many consecutive days. I don't remember how many days I set it at, but after the 2nd day, he started sleeping all the time. I'd get the cutscene saying that he took a walk, but then he'd be asleep with a zero health bar. Then he kept doing "take a walk in town" even though I changed the care plan to something else, because the "take a walk in town" was already active.

Although this thread seemed to ADAMANTLY suggest against selecting "rest" as an option under any circumstances, I didn't feel I had much of a choice. I set it to "rest - 1 day." He rested up for a day and his bar was completely full again. The next day, he was fine... Except for hating me because I hadn't been able to watch over him in several days and being extremely hungry.

I think some (not all, but some) of the people who believe their chocobo may be suffering from this bug might actually just have exhausted their poor bird too much and aren't resting it for fear that they will never wake up.
