  • How much?

Just take a wager or if you know around how much it will cost from 0-100 or even 57-100

I am 57 and have spent around 5,000,000 so far. How much would you guess i'd need?

    Re: How much?

    Lots.

It will depend on what you skill up on, what the materials cost, what you farm or mine up, and what the results sell for.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

      Re: How much?

Questions like these are very hard to answer. 1)The market changes constantly. What provided profit and skill today may not tomorrow. 2)I don't know you - are you the type to go for the fastest route to 100 regardless of cost, or do you like to take the longer, cheaper route?

If you have spent 5 mil just to get to 57... that's a lot. I got to the lower 50's for under 1 mil on my old character.

It's just too hard to say. I could throw a figure out there, but what meaning would it have?

        Re: How much?

leveling a craft to 100 is almost always an "If you have to ask, it's too much" thing.

Honestly, you're the only one that can make that evaluation, based on your crafting experience and (I hope) knowledge of your server's economy, particularly of your trade.

            Re: How much?

So...buy the ore & make the ingots yourself. The ores are going for 10k according to FFXIAH.com. That's 120k/stack. Or mine them yourself. They're not exactly common, but if nothing else you can craft the junk ores you find into ingots to sell.

                Re: How much?

Is this estimate notwithstanding subcrafts you'll obviously want such as Leathercraft, Woodworking, and possibly Goldsmithing and even Bonecraft?

Smithing is singular the most interdependent craft and I would say that a good smith spends more money and time on his career than even a Goldsmith because of this--Goldsmithing, while expensive, has very little entanglement with other crafts at least as a necessity to it's primary use--making Jewelry.

So far as I have gone in Smithing, I have spent very little--probably somewhere around 50k to 29. I try to stick to supplies that other people will use rather than manufacturing end product. 5 million seems like a lot for such a low level as 54. Of course, if you're trying to move fast, you'll inevitably spend a lot. I've done Alchemy at a rather relaxed pace and have levelled other crafts as well to give access to some of the more profitable (or less expensive) syntheses along the way. From the looks of it, there are quite a good variety of profitable syntheses in the 60s and beyond, but unfortunately most are durable goods which cannot be mass produced without seriously harming their market (or without great expense).

Basically, your speed is a great factor in the cost of your training as well as subcraft access which gives you wider variety in Smithing, but has it's own costs associated with it.

From 60-70 you'll be running somewhere along 24-36 syntheses per point and from 70-100 at around 36-48. So if you stick to consumables when possible that looks like (this is without checking AH for sale rates and costs):

                DST Boltheads (62)
                DST Chain (63)
                Huge durable goods space...
                Karimata Arrowheads (79)
Not a bad space, but not much to make either
                Adaman Sheet (85)
Bit of a small span, the rather popular Celata is here
                Adaman Ingot (90)
Everything up here looks like it hurts.

That's how much you "spent"? What about the amount of gil you've gotten back? You have made a profit along the way on certain recipes, right?

When I took Blacksmithing from 0 to 60 on two chars, I'm quite sure I turned a profit overall both times. And I'm not a "I farm all my own materials" crafter, nor am I a "I don't skill up unless I can do it for profit" crafter either. I eat small losses in short stretches provided I can make up for it later.

                  I you really did go into the hole 5 mil to get Blacksmithing to 57, all I can say is {That's too bad.}
