the prices in the guild rise and fall depending on demand (nothing to do with inflation). the more people buy an item (and quite possibly clear the stock), the more the price will go up the next day.

the cheapest is right on the day after the guild holiday.

i think copper ore is sold from a airship vendor, depending on conquest
correct, and it's a fixed price with unlimited stock. course, you'll need an airship pass to get to it

      Thanks Yyg!

Guild prices are influenced by how many people are buying them. So when it goes up that means that lot's of others are also buying them, probably making the guild sell out.

For finding other sources of materials: http://ffxi.somepage.com/

Edit: There is apparently a 'd' in the word influenced. Who knew?

Copper, Iron and Mythril Ores are available from the airship vendors depending upon the conquest standing of your nation. Unlike Guild Vendors, the prices are stable. You can only get mythril ore if you are a citizen of the nation in 1st place at their airship dock. Iron is available to everyone at the 2nd and 1st place nation docks.

Also, break down and buy some Worker's Gear and mine it:

          http://ffxi.somepage.com/otherdb/mining.php

Zeruhn mines is accessible to everyone and has only 1 aggressive spawn. You can get Darksteel in here, too, which is a great way to save money on expensive ingots. Making a single ingot can save you about 180,000gil (Asura prices). Unfortunately, it takes a lot of mining to get 4 ores. You can supplement Darksteel ores with nuggets grown from Tree Cuttings (Planting Darksday, Fertilize #1 Darksday, Dark Crystal, Fertilize #2 Darksday, Dark Crystal) if it's cost effective on your server.

          http://ffxi.somepage.com/gardening/s...crystal_2=Dark

The Strange Apparatus is a good source of Adaman Nuggets:

          http://ffxi.somepage.com/questdb/510

          http://elusiveremora.net/strangeapp.html

I find that going on the "wrong" day produces more Cermet/Adaman than going on the "right" day which produces more rune items. This is dependent upon the price of the nuggets/ores in AH and the price of Infinity Cores.

As far as the guild itself goes, try to get there just before 8am and fight over the metal stacks which, at least on Asura, are always leagues cheaper than AH. Mhaura Smithing Guild is little used and sells Steel Ingots. You might want to consider getting yourself a Kolshushu Outpost Warp [Supplies Quest] and running out to pick them up when you can.

If you can get to Aht Urghan, there is a Smithing Guild there as well and one in Bastok. Bastok is nice because there are two sources of Copper Ore--the Goldsmith's guild sells it too. San d'Oria has connections to two guilds that are highly integrated into smithing, but Bastok has more native materials as a result of their proximity to three mines--Zeruhn, Palborough, and Gusgen. As I said, anyone can mine Zeruhn. Once you're 34th-35th level or so you can mine Palborough without aggro, and 46th-47th for Gusgen.

AH Smithing Materials in San d'Oria are all imported, so the costs are generally higher there because there is less competition on the AH. Bastok will often have the best materials prices for metals--sometimes Jeuno will because they occasionally get a huge influx of imported materials, but I've usually found Bastok's prices best because of the large number of newbie miner/smiths/goldsmiths making their nest eggs on metals (They can't drive to Jeuno yet, a lot of times).

Making your own materials from ores is the cheapest way, but it is time intensive since you can't HQ and you can only make one at a time (there's no Trituration/Lumberjack for Ingots).

You'll also want to watch Beastcoin prices as they can be melted down into ingots.

There are also some desyntheses that can produce a good rate of product--Saparas from the Weapon shop in Bastok is one of them; this desynthesis produces Brass and Silver ingots. Farm Lightning Clusters in Konschtat or buy them at the AH when they're low.

Guild points come from the person in the guild who won't talk to you unless you've got 30+ skill. They are used to buy the nifty aprons/hats/gloves etc. that increase your skill or HQ Rate furniture. The most useful thing to be bought with GP are the key items which allow you to either make certain products faster or give you the ability to produce items that other members of your guild cannot. They can also be used to buy High Quality crystals that you can use to put your signature on items you make (placing these in the AH removes the signature). You can only have a guild contract with one guild at a time and you lose your points if you switch. Each RL Day, the guild point NPC will request an item from you. Look this item up on Somepage and deliver the appropriate number to receive your GP. GP are expensive and take a lot of work to get, so spend them wisely.
