  • Synthing Question

    Hello All,

So, I know its good to synth items 3-5 lvs above your cap when leveling a craft. But, What if its a two-craft item? For example: Fly Lure = 30 Cloth and 8 Bone cap. Would I be safe if I were 27 Cloth and 5 Bone? Or does the lv difference count both times for a total of a 6 level difference? Please let me know your experiences.

    Thanks,

    Evion

    Re: Synthing Question

The level difference is calculated separately, so 27 CC and 5 Bone would be safe. There may be a somewhat higher chance it'll break, seeing as you have to succeed on both fronts though.

I've made a Bronze Bed with below level CC and Smithing, and succeeded 5 times and failed 3, so I think you'll be safe.

      Re: Synthing Question

Succeeding 5 times out of 3 is pretty hard to do for any synth

Edit: This probably doesn't make sense now that Ryu edited what he typed...

                  Re: Synthing Question

For synths whenever I can on a skillup I will look for duel skillup synths raise one craft up so I'm within the threshold you mentioned on both skills. When possible at least it makes skilling up a bit cheaper and less time consuming. and yeah it calculates seperately. You may get a .01 skillup on one and .02 on the other one of them or neither of them. It's like doing 2 synths in one. I have had preaty good luck on these.
Good luck on the crafting it's long but rewarding.

                    Re: Synthing Question

At higher levels, there's also something called a "break synth" method of skilling ... as I understand it, you synth in that 3-5 range for one craft, and far enough out of the ballpark so as to pretty much be unable to suceed with the other craft. You just hope (and have the appropriate Moghancement for) not to lose too much in the way of materials. From that, I'd say there's a fair chance that the craft skills and the checks are totally independent (with the possible exception of failure of synth from one check preventing skillup on the other check).

Oh, and if you're wondering why you'd WANT to fail every synth, consider synthing materials worth three times the finished product...

Thanks Nuriko! I never thought of that. Hope to break the crystal and try not to lose any items...

                        Re: Synthing Question

It's the sort of thing you do when the materials for a synth cost 100k and you might be able to sell the end product for 10k ... or not at all.

Yeah... well I'm sure there's always a better synth to skill up on than a scenario like that...

                              Re: Synthing Question

Break synthing is usually done at the highest lvls, when losing the expensive item is on par with the money you'd lose from succeeding. Typically a 90+ thing with major moghancement and usually only done (if at all) by only a few crafts (i think smithing and gs come to mind)
At the lvls you described in the original post, you can actually skillup on both at the same time. Personally, when I was skilling on items with subcrafts, I'd lvl the sub craft separately and get to atleast the same lvl, helps minimize breaks, which for the majority of skilling a craft, is a bad thing.
